Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty RidiculoSnarky Almost Intelligent-Charming Manatees PART 4 - Full

this is how my Sunday is going (from my training log):

So, this was quite the interesting ride. It started when I tried to ignore my alarm and sleep in a bit. Gunnar came and whined at me and since he had me up during the night with his gastric distress, I had to get up. Good thing i did. Anyway, got him walked, anit-diarrhealed and got on my way.
About 30 minutes into the ride, my phone started taking pictures. I figured something else in the bento bag moved and activated the phone, so i stopped and adjusted things. then got back on the road.
A bit later the wild life show started. Unfortunately, it started with a big very dead deer on the side of the road. Then a mile or two later, i saw a bunch of chickens in the road plus 3 bigger, yet to be identified birds. As i got closer i realized those big birds were geese. Uh oh. The birds were all across the 2 lane road, so i had to slow down and then stop. The geese started to come after me! I used my bike to block them, all the while I was backing up. When we got back up to the driveway of the house they obviously lived, the chicken and 2 of the geese made a turn for it. The 3d goose, however, wanted me. He was snapping at me and circled around me honking and just being annoyed and nasty. Finally, a car came up the road and stopped b/c of the goose. I thought I could use it to block the goose and make my get away, but i didn't have to b/c for some reason, after a few more lunges and snaps at me, the goose headed for his driveway and i was able to get away. The people in the car and i had a nice laugh. Shortly after clearing the attack geese, 2 bicyclist came by me headed to the geese site. I heard one of the guys say, we need to slow down here and then I think he mentioned something about the geese. I told them they were out and we gave each other knowing looks . This was only my second time on this route, the first time i did not encounter the geese, but it seems the geese are well known to the more frequent cyclists.
I later ran into a flock of wild turkeys, a few great herons and then right before the end of the ride, a flock of vultures who were busy with road kill. Thankfully, they moved off the road just as i got to them as i don't know how i would have gotten thru them.
Back to my phone issue, about 30 minutes before the end of the ride, the phone started taking pictures again. I figured the same thing happened and stop to make the adjustment. Well, that was not the issue. I could not stop the phone and for almost the rest of the ride it was non-stop picture taking. I couldn't even get to the screen i needed to turn the phone off as it kept reverting to the camera. I'm sure there is a way to do a forced quit, but this is a new phone and i have not figured that out yet. Right before the end of the ride, it stopped the picture taking, for which i was really thankful as that snap noise was annoying. When I got back to the car I was able to get the phone turned off.
Back home i tried to make a call and was not able to hear the ring or the person on the other end. I don't know what caused my phone to go nuts, but i suspect that a bit of sweat got into it. When i take it to IMS tomorrow, i think i'll leave the sweat part out of my story - unless specifically asked I keep breaking these stupid blackberry phones; glad i don't have to pay for them!
Anyway, as far as the ride goes, I did not know how i'd feel after yesterday's race and decided to just take things easily since this was to be a 3 hr ride. I was very happy with how i felt and could have easily gone faster (if you subtract the time i spent defending against the geese and dealing with my phone etc., i'd be over 17 mph avg), probably could have done 18 -19 mph. I'm not sure if keeping it easy was the right call or not, but overall I'm happy with the ride and glad i didn't blow it off.
Now, when I got home, I found that Gunnar had another episode of gastric distress. Of course, he couldn't have had it on the tile floor, he had to go in the living room on the hard wood floor. Since he is a big dog, his "distress" was really big and gross. About a half hour after cleaning everything up, I was reading the paper and eating breakfast, when he got up and walked into the living room and then whammo projectile vomiting! I kicked him out of the room while I cleaned up this new huge mess and then I heard some more projectile vomiting. At least this time it was on the tile. I then let him out and he suffered some gastric distress. Gross x 10000000
He then walked into the kitchen and ate the rice w/ chicken broth he refused before.
Sometimes having a big dog is a real pain Think I'll buy some more air freshener today.

Oh, i almost forgot; at about 34 miles I dropped my sunglasses. Turned around to pick them up only to watch 3 cars heading for them; somehow they all missed the glasses. Then just as I was back to them, a 4th car came by; i need to buy new sunglasses

Oh dear, that is quite the Sunday!  Glad the birds didn't get you--geese are scary when they are aggressive!  Sorry to hear about your pup as well.  You may want to hold off feeding him anymore for 24 hours just to give his tummy time to settle down.

Thanks! Gunnar has a history of lower GI issues, I usually try to load him up on rice to slow the tide; but maybe i should give him a little fast this time, especially with the added vomiting issue (which does not usually accompany the lower GI stuff).  Thanks for the suggestion.

I watched the whole of the women's marathon and I am in awe of those ladies - at the one hour mark they had done 17.6km so they are running at 17.6kph!  On a treadmill I can peak at around 13kph for 30seconds!  Wow they are amazing.

Had a nice weekend - Saturday the 18.55km run was great but I did nothing else.  Over indulged Saturday night so had nothing to give Sunday - no drainer ride nothing.  Now got severe ache and pain on top of left foot, had this before I think it's just over use and I looking at my running shoes - they got holes in!!! WTF!  So order new ones today.

So this week I think rest up from running just drainer and swimming for me.  I'm going to Sydney at the weekend for the City2surf race - its around 14km most of it being the run up Heartbreak Hill then the last kilometre down to Bondi Beach, it's a great event last year 85000 turned up.

I usually go just with my best friend but she informed me Saturday night that her husband is coming along - I'm a bit annoyed.  I love the guy and he's a good athelte but this is our weekend away - I would have brought my husband if I knew it was 'allowed'.  Oh well nothing I can do except have fun, lifes too short to stay cross for long.

Hormones all over the place today, feel close to tears - grrrrr.  Will be fine after squad tonight where all is always right in the world!

Have a fun day everyone.

Wow. Great posts of our weekend adventures!

Felicia you'll be fine. The hay is in the barn!

I just finished Shiela T's book on our drive back home. I learned that the straight-leg kick I was coached to do is only half correct! I love that I have something new that can fix me! Interestingly I just noticed that my kick might be hindering me on Friday when I tried to do a kick set without fins and went nowhere. Yay!

They actually found her just 400m downhill from where the other woman was found on Thursday night.  Searchers had already searched the area, but they suspect she was hiding, afraid she was in trouble and wouldn't come out.  S&R questioned the other woman, Judy, again today, and she finally relayed that she hadn't been walking alone for long (she said the same when found, but she wasn't speaking unless spoken to at that time, and was answering 'Yes' to almost every question asked, so they didn't know how reliable her info was.).  Joy was found just sitting in an 'inaccessible' forested area.

this is how my Sunday is going (from my training log):

So, this was quite the interesting ride. It started when I tried to ignore my alarm and sleep in a bit. Gunnar came and whined at me and since he had me up during the night with his gastric distress, I had to get up. Good thing i did. Anyway, got him walked, anit-diarrhealed and got on my way.
Oh, i almost forgot; at about 34 miles I dropped my sunglasses. Turned around to pick them up only to watch 3 cars heading for them; somehow they all missed the glasses. Then just as I was back to them, a 4th car came by; i need to buy new sunglasses

OMG I hate geese so much, they are such jerks!!! Esepcially Canadian Geese.  (Nothing against the canadians here...)  They are like yellow jackets, mean for no reason!  They ruined a run of mine before.

Watching women's water polo.  The China/Australia game was fantastic!  It even had a boob flash!! My youngest thought it was great.

The USA/Italy match is good too.  GO USA!!!

My friend was at the USA match! Hope USA won!
