Jeepguy2358 - 2009-08-05 8:54 PM Okay.  I have my longest run of my life coming up tomorrow..................1hr 45min.    I am looking to go around 11 miles.  Unfortunately it will be after being on my feet all day at work.  Should be interesting.  Friday calls for a long swim (3K).  Off Sat, but Sunday - 2hr bike, 30min run, 30 min swim in 98 degrees, 80% humidity.  Man, this HIM volume is getting crazy!  I love it!

Chris-Good luck with your run tomorrow.  Make sure you really hydrate well beforehand, drink some chocolate milk or equivalent post and maybe jump in an ice bath after that to get the inflammation down.  You have a busy few days a head of you.

To the rest of you, this Lonestar thing is getting serious.  Where are people planning to stay? on the property where the race takes place? what are you planning to distance wise?????

Tomorrow is a 2.4m timed OWS during my class. Since I really have no reason to go that far, I am going to try to knock out the 1.2m in better form than Tuesday and then see if I can do some more.  The coach is trying to get us to swim this at race pace which is what got me all screwed up last time.  I don't have a race pace!  So I am just going to swim and see where I land.  Fingers crossed.

Good luck Suzy.  I know what you mean about swim pace.  I have one - slow.  I laugh to myself when my master's coach talks about different gears when swimming.  I know it's possible some day - I used to be in the same boat w/ running.  But I still laugh b/c it's all about my survival in the water right now.

Belly Laugh
Nope.  My OW race goal is always to get out of the water with a smile on my face and no paramedics around.  I don't actually have a goal for the bike or run either.    Basically, it is survive the swim, moderate the bike so that the run won't kill me.  I am sure Steve will give me more specifics, but that is the general idea.

You?

Huh, the pool is closed.  Would have been nice to know say uh... yesterday, instead of this morning at 0500.

Here's what I planned:
WU: 500 swim, 100 kick warm up
MS: rest is 15" on all
8x100
8x5  Race Effort
4x50
CD: 100 cool down

I did the 200 Challenge again yesterday and added pull ups.  I hurt today.  I needed the time in the water to help loosen things up.  For those who want to add in just a little extra, look into the 20 Pull Up Challenge (google it).  Pain...

200 Challenge: (Week 2 Day 2 Column 3)

Calf Raises: 25, 20, 20, 20, 25 = 110
Prisoner Squats: 40, 40, 40 = 120
Sit Ups: 21, 24, 18, 18, 28 = 109
Push Ups: 21, 24, 18, 18, 30 = 111
Pull Ups: 9, 9, 6, 6, 10 = 40

Pain.  My whole chest, outter Lats and the insertion point of my biceps are pissed!  I may pass on workout 3 this week so as not to mess up my Sunday race.  Then I'll jump into next week with 4 days of the Challenge.

Steve or anyone else that has a running light, which one do you use?  it's supposed to be 95+ on Sunday when I do my 15 miler so I want to get started when it's still very dark outside.

Minor rant: Triathlon photographers suck...  If you are going to take pictures at an event, take the time to find a decent spot, cyclists don't want pictures head on, want the side so the bike is in the picture... At my last race the guy was 100 feet out of transition which was the middle of a hill.  All pictures had big groups of people in them and everyone is standing, not in aero, etc,  crappy pictures.  All the cycling pictures I have seen are great, they seem to know the sport and what pictures people want to see...

So Sam said I should share my losing my mind story with everyone.

Woke up, took a shower, put on boxers.  Daughter woke up, dog peed on the floor.  I put on a pair of shorts to take the dog outside.  Come back upstairs talk to my daughter, tell her to stay out of mommy's closet and put back the purses and stuff she had taken out. Get dressed, go to work.

Standing in my office adjusting clothes, not sure why my undershirt feels like it is really bulky.  Go to the bathroom and realize that I still have my shorts on.  So went all morning wearing a suit with running shorts on underneath...

yep, losing it.

Not as much worried about people seeing me, its so I can see where I am going.  But the vest is probably a good idea also.

Got in my push ups and most of my sit ups last night for day 2

10-12-8-8-14 Push ups (superset these with squats and bent bar lat push downs)

15-18-15-10-9 Sit ups - (superset these with leg extensions and hamstring curls)

Somehow I think it will take me longer than 6 weeks to get to 200 situps...  I guess that really isn't muscle around the middle after all

So are we to assume you are still wearing running shorts or did you have a spare pair of skivies?  There's always the commando option, right Suzy?

I consider it a very viable option. Plus it saves on laundry!

dalessit - 2009-08-05 8:50 PM So, who out there besides Suzy uses a coach?  (allready sent her a pm about hers)

Sam and I were talking about it and now I remember why I don't have a tri coach.  I looked at all the local ones and none of them really stand out and if I am going to pay 200-300/month I want to make sure they are good.

Have any of you guys looked into coaching?  lol the more I look at how expensive it is the happier I get with Suzy recommending her running coach because he is great and compared to other coaching very reasonably priced.

In the process of hiring one now.   Three main reasons.  Training (what to do when) , injury prevention, and time management.  Family will always come first so time management is going to be critical to our IM success.

I did the blanket research for coaches both live and online.  Realized I didn't want to go the online route this time but it is a good option for later.  Then it went to word of mouth.  Lots of good stuff there.  Next I talked to a few that I thought were good to go.  I hope to pull the trigger next week.

$300 is expensive but you are in No. Virginia.  I'm looking at less than half that.

Tony - I have a Petzl headlamp.  I don't know which model offhand - it was about $40 at REI and has high, med, low and flash settings.  I ran all winter with it, on and off road, and loved it.

Can't help with the light, but I will second John's vest.  If I have to do my workout in the dark hours of the morning (happens alot) I go to the gym because I am a little concerned being a female in the total dark.   There is a guy in our neigborhood that wears that vest....when my headlights hits that vest it lights up like Christmas.  Never miss that guy.

I have a belt.  It's what my wife had to wear in the Army.  I see the ROTC'rs running MSU Campus on my way in to work and they all have these.  Very bright/reflective.  I wear it if I'm running or biking at dawn or dusk.  I do have an LED tail light on my bike too.

Belts

And since we're on the topic.  I bought some light grey reflective tape and made some small pieces to put on various parts of my bike - since my bike is blue/white/grey, you cannot even tell where the strips are.  But there was a local triathlete who got hit while riding his bike and the defense atty argued that the rider wasn't riding according to the law and couldn't be seen as he had no refectors or lights on his bike.  Best to be safe.

Subject: RE: SWBKRUN Mentor Group-Closed! KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!!
Tony I use this....  You can see from your house to China w/ this thing, or you can see in a wide angle beam.  Best for running.  I took a nasty spill the 1st time I went with the HIGH BEAM.... I found that I was following the light, and not following the trail I was on.  Looking way too far ahead, and didn't see the fallen tree right in front of me.  It is a little pricey, but battery last a while, and I have used it for climbing Rainer, trail running, and walking the dog at night.  It is an ALL AROUND light.  Not cumbersome at all.  Highly recommend it to anyone.

Chris/Suzy..... Anxious to hear about the workouts go today!!!

Man I need to train for something.  Everyone's talking about a scheduled this or that... I got nothing.  Just mindless/worthless workouts.  At least I can skip days, cut short, or make things up.  That part is nice....

Dannet??? Where are you?
