For who aren't on FB - Check this out:

Anti-bike segment on Detroit radio station WCSX. It was on the morning of August 5 on the Deminski and Doyle show. My favorite is how they are encouraging people to "Lob something at their (bicyclists) heads."

http://greatermedia.cachefly.net/WCSX/DD/2009_08bicycliststhrowat.mp3

If you want to email WCSX management, use [email protected] If you want to call them, try 248-398-9470.

I emailed them a nice note:

I simply cannot believe that you allow this on your airwaves.  To encourage drivers to "Lob something at their (bicyclists) heads" is harassment.  If ever someone assaults me while I'm riding, I will stop and call the police - you've passed me and I will make note of your license plate and vehicle description.  You think that because you're in a car you own the road?  Look up the Michigan Motor Vehicle Code - you'll see that bicyclists not only have the right to a lane, but all the same rules apply as if you are approaching another car!

Unbelievable.  I will be contacting your station sponsors as well!

Why don't you take the time to encourage your team to put pressure on the state and local government to improve road conditions and make a 3 foot shoulder without pot holes.  That will improve conditions for everyone.

Send them your opinion.  In fact, this will go in the Michigan BT Forum.

LOL, yes, I know.  But in my defense - they are not noticeable.

swbkrun - 2009-08-06 11:38 AM Tony I use this....  You can see from your house to China w/ this thing, or you can see in a wide angle beam.  Best for running.  I took a nasty spill the 1st time I went with the HIGH BEAM.... I found that I was following the light, and not following the trail I was on.  Looking way too far ahead, and didn't see the fallen tree right in front of me.  It is a little pricey, but battery last a while, and I have used it for climbing Rainer, trail running, and walking the dog at night.  It is an ALL AROUND light.  Not cumbersome at all.  Highly recommend it to anyone.

Chris/Suzy..... Anxious to hear about the workouts go today!!!

Man I need to train for something.  Everyone's talking about a scheduled this or that... I got nothing.  Just mindless/worthless workouts.  At least I can skip days, cut short, or make things up.  That part is nice....

Dannet??? Where are you?

Does it move around when you run?  That brand seems highly rated also on REI.  But they don't have a breakout of ones for hiking vs. running.

Doesn't move around at all..... The battery pack in the back keeps it stationary (it also has a red blinker on the battery back to let people behind you know that you are there).

So you it works from both the front and the rear (insert joke here !)

Danette, everyone's right.  Don't let depression keep you from here.  We're family - come around often.  And although I'm self-employed  and have it really easy I also get depressed about my work.  When I get that way I totally immerse myself in it for several days.  I make sure I'm constantly working and so busy I can't even think about hating it.  After about 3 days like this I'm cured.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement for Saturday.  My number one goal, in everything I do, is to Have Fun.  If I'm not having fun it's not worth doing.

John, with some info about me you can find me a bike.  I'm an Aquarius, enjoy hunting as well as most anything outdoors, big fan of Burn Notice and Psych.  Now find me a bike!

Chris, the volume is really ramping up.  My favorite part of my half-mary training was when the volume got really big.  I really loved the challenge.

Linda, re: the guy in the vest - you never miss that guy.  Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the vest - I thought you were supposed to miss him!  You'd think he'd stop wearing it if you never missed him.

Hi all,

I have been without computer access for almost a week.  I have been going crazy!!!  I don't even know what all I have missed yet.  Frown  I will try to catch up tonight.  I haven't even been able to post my workouts!  It sounds like everyone is working hard on a push up/ sit up challenge?  You people rock!

Okay, so my birthday is coming up and my MIL wants to know what I want.  Hhmm, I was thinking maybe a hydration/fuel belt??  Does anyone use one?  Why or why not?  What brand?  Usually I have a ton of ideas floating in my head that I want, but this year I seem to be having problems coming up with an idea.  Any other fun suggestions?

Work hard and have fun!

Karen

Jeepguy2358 - 2009-08-05 8:54 PM Okay.  I have my longest run of my life coming up tomorrow..................1hr 45min.    I am looking to go around 11 miles.  Unfortunately it will be after being on my feet all day at work.  Should be interesting.  Friday calls for a long swim (3K).  Off Sat, but Sunday - 2hr bike, 30min run, 30 min swim in 98 degrees, 80% humidity.  Man, this HIM volume is getting crazy!  I love it![/QUOTE]

HA HA!!!!!    Now we're talking!  Kick a$$ tomorrow.

Where did you go to college? Fairfield?

I went to UCONN for a couple years, then transferred to CCSU.  I played football, but transferred to get more playing time.

I love my Fuel Belt Helium 4 bottle.  It bounces so much less than the old models.

What about:
Bontrager rear mount water cages?
New Goggles or Suit?
Lessons with a swim or bike coach?

I could give you a 100 ideas.....

Hey, I just saw what race you are doing on Saturday!  You will love it and you will do great!  I am jealous that you get to do this, and I wish I could be there to do it with you!  If you've never been to Tipton Lakes, it is the coolest neighborhood!  I would love to live there!  To me (from Southwestern PA) the course was great because it was flat!  Good luck and let us know how it goes!!  Have fun!

Karen,  I have the same belt Suzy does and I love it.  I take it on every run over 1 hr and on shorter ones that are in really hot weather.  Depends on the run, sometimes I only use two of the bottles.   Nice gift...but Suzy seemed to come up with some other great ideas as well.

I went to a bike clinic last night.  Great clinic, I learned alot, and it was totally free.  However, not sure this clinic is not going to end up free.  I came home wanting a new bike and ZIPP wheels.  My husband was thrilled Smile   And my birthday isn't until April, so I can't use that one.

Tony, I use http://www.rei.com/product/751757, and really like it.  I actually started to look forward to running in the dark with this because of the cool effect it has on my vision.  It's like your eyes are at he bottom of a cone looking out...it is soooo cool.  I have been told I am super geeky for even verbalizing this.  I will be happy once November hits and I have weekday longish runs that must start before the sun comes up!  I say this now, you guys can remind me I said it when I am complaining about the pre-dawn runs!

I use the amphipod, I like it because you can mix and match, put 2-4 bottle holders on plus they have different sizes, for very long runs I carry 2 large bottles and 2 small ones.

Well, as usual, by the time I get here I really have nothing  new to add I also use the Petzl (light) and Amphipod (fuel belt). I LOVE them both!

My mile swim last week was lots of fun. Spent the day at the lake with my daughters. It's so nice to get to spend time with them! After the swim they had a great BBQ and gave all the participants a bag of flathead cherries, delicious!

I am not happy with my swim time though. I really need to work on my sighting. I did a lot of zigzagging, which cost me a lot of time. My OWS times this year have been significantly slower than last year even though my pool times have gotten much faster. It's frustrating to say the least. Now I'm having serious motivation problems to get out there and swim. I'm not sure why since I know I need to swim MORE in order to improve, and usually I love swimming. I've already skipped two swims this week Embarassed.   If anyone would like to harass me and make sure I'm getting my swimming in please feel free. Just knowing someone might be checking might help me get it done.

Biking is going really well though.  I've had my computrainer for a few weeks, and I have already seen an improvement  on the bike. I love the CT!

I also started my Woodside 50k training plan this week, and have been having some great early morning runs. Of course, they are really short right now, so we'll see how I feel about it later in the plan

My push-up and sit-up challenge days are going to be Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. I did Week 3, column 3, day1 yesterday, and the sit-ups were painful with sore abs from the test two days before, good stuff!

I'm seriously thinking about Lonestar HIM. It would be good timing for an early season HIM before IMCDA, and what a blast it would be to meet you guys!  My hubby wants to do it too, so now it's just a matter of figuring out if we can afford the travel and if he can get the time off. It's looking pretty good though!
