Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread My bike computer showed 112.8 at the end and every marker was about 0.3-0.9 off as well. I forgot the garmin in T2 so I didn't have a distance for the run. I thoroughly enjoyed this race besides the aforementioned lack of lighting at spots during the run. They need to remedy that for next year. Have everybody pay an extra $5 and that'll be enough to rent some lighting. I nearly ran into a couple of people and one time stumbled over something in the sidewalk, but that was like mile 20-21 so it could've been my own feet. Really though this was an awesome race. The roads were really nice, the run course was even nice and the swim, well, was the swim. Weather was perfect even with that crappy wind. At least it wasn't pushing TOO hard. I'd say do it. PS Robyn said it was one of the more spectator-unfriendly races she's been to because they couldn't go to swim start and she waited for 1.5 hours to get my bike and gear back across the river on the ferry. It all worked out though. Thank god it's over. |

I had a GREAT time Friday night. Sorry, you missed it Carol. It was nice meeting you though. Thanks for introducing yourself to me Neal. I saw you a couple times in the run, too, right? Maybe I would do this course again. Just bring a flashlight for the 2nd loop of the run to light my way on the dark path around the lake. Everything else about the race was spectacular. Except the pain. Think Setup can fix that part? I did truly love the beautiful start on the beach and the not crowded bike course. Edited by keyone 2009-11-09 1:50 PM |

Elite 3658 Roswell, GA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread keyone - 2009-11-08 7:40 AM I forget who passed me close to the end - did you make the 12 hour mark? Nope. 12:01, but I gave it a good try. I thought the race was very well run. Everything went really smooth and the aid stations and volunteers were great. I was trying to run in the park at about the same time as Carol and it was pitch black. That is unacceptable. It was very tough to run because you couldn't see the path or other racers coming towards you. I can only guess that something happenned and they were not able to rent as many lights as they wanted. |

That is unacceptable. It's that way in the State Park section of the run in IMFL. It's a few miles each way and I guess they'd really have to have lights every hundred or few hundred yards to really light it up. They just have lights at the turns and aid stations. In a way, it's worse because it just ruins your night vision that's built up between lights. |

No sorry we can't tell you how/why your name came up at the dinner that you arranged, made reservations for and yet didn't appear at.............. (It really sucks that it took you so long at pick-up and dropping everything off that you couldn't make it!) As for which Neal you saw on the course---I know that you saw me a few times (and I probably scared you by calling you by name since you looked just like your avatar!!) on the course and then Doug and I talked to you just after you finished---of course Neal Phelps would have been the second BT Neal out there on the course!!! |

Glad you guys had fun at dinner! I called the restaurant at 4:30 to tell them to pass the word that I was not going to make it and not to wait for me. I guess that message didn't get passed on. Hope you guys went ahead and ordered your food right away! I remember seeing you out on the course, because you said you were Skippy 74. And it was great talking to you afterwards, well, till I got disoriented anyway. Is your name Neil too? It must have been nealphelps who introduced himeslf to me at T1 before the race, then I saw him a couple times on the run course. Bright yellow shirt. Browndog, too bad you missed the 12 hour mark. Great finish anyway at 12:01 (it rounds down to 12 hours!!!!) You were running fast when you passed me. I tried to pick it up, but was already doing my best at that point. Thanks for the words of support there! Edited by keyone 2009-11-09 6:36 PM |

Something I've pondered (probably won't ever do anything about it but...) and was thinking about the logo but figured the detail would be lost but your idea would work well. So are you going to do it and if so where are you going to put it??? Edit: And Doug would be VERY pleased to see the inclusion of 140.6!!!!!! Edited by Skippy74 2009-11-09 8:21 PM |

Expert 1706 NoVA | Subject: RE: Beach 2 Battleship : Official Thread keyone - 2009-11-09 9:21 PM Is Doug browndog, and why would he be pleased? Yup Doug is browndog and he'd be pleased with the 140.6 since he was a bit upset about the lack of race distance on the SC Half stuff and on the B2B race shirt---was MUCH happier once he got his finisher's shirt with the distances listed!!!! I have to say that I agree with him---I understand that Set Up can't say Half Ironman or Ironman race but at least put the distances----I did Kinetic race weekend this past May up here in VA and did the half on Sat and on Sun is a sprint----well the shirt was a race weekend shirt so nobody knows when you're wearing it if you did the HIM or a sprint..........just sayin! As for watching Biggest Loser for the "changing tent scene"----my understanding is this guy was from a past season and I'm really not sure it was him now since looking at his splits we shouldn't have been in T2 at the same time----must have been some other guy with a female reporter/camera person with him I just know as I was putting my shoes on for the run (no need for getting naked for that!!!!) some guy walked into the tent followed by a female who said "I probably shouldn't be in here I guess..." and kept walking in and started interviewing him---I dropped my bag and left the tent at that point so I don't know if anyone told her to get out but nobody really seemed to care at that point.... |

LOL!! Sorry I didn't get a chance to meet some of you. I didn't get to hang out with as many BTers as I wanted. I still was not feeling 100% (recovering from flu & asthma issues) and was trying to rest as much as possible. I was less social than usual. It looks BT had a great showing and had some impressive times out on the course!! Way to go BT!! I hope the correct the timing issues and sort it all out soon. |

Oh yeah, that clown shirt was terrifying! I had to stop twice to pee on the bike. I figured the woods is quicker than porta potties, because no lines! Also, I hung onto the deck before exiting the water to pee for two full minutes. I did it in the water, to avoid lines at the porta potties. One of the volunteers came over to ask me if I was okay! It was funny. I wish I could learn to pee while swimming and biking. It would sure save time! |

I tried so hard to pee in the water but only a little came out, like when someone says soemthing really funny after about 12 beers. I mean, uh, that's never happened to me, is what I meant. Anyway I could probbly shave a good 2-3 minutes off transition times if I could just pee in the water. I absolutely refuse to pee on the bike. I will not urinate on myself unless it means sterilizing a snake bite or something, and even then it's a `if' not a `when.' Key I don't know if you know who I am -- I was with BrownDog and we said `hello' as we ran by you a couple times. You were straight-up FLYING! Nice job out there! |
