There is lighting on the path around TTL and on the streets. The bridges are well lit as well. It will get dark and chilly early so depending on ones' eyesight it could affect your pacing. With that said, I do not believe you will need a headlamp.

Thanks ... that's good to know. I'll run with my headlamp if necessary but would prefer to avoid it.

Thanks Phatknot!  Yep...Augusta was definately a confidence booster!

I have to admit though...the current in the Savannah River really helped me on the swim.  Any chance the river in Tempe has a current in our favor???

Tempe Town LAKE, not river. It's perfectly still.

I swam in it on Sunday for the Nathans Triathlon. Water was the same as always, murky and green but not nasty smelling of tasting. Good news is that they are re-surfacing the BeeLine out between McDowell and Shea and the surface is very nice. They should be done in the next week.

that would be wise AbbieR.  so far i have not proven to be wise on most of my races. sadly, there's a fine line between maxing out your best performance and going overboard or being conservative. i seem to always be on the line edging into overboard. that would be a big mistake in tempe

I'll second what he said.  There was only one section where I felt like it was a bit dark.  And it was short.  Otherwise, plenty of light!

Edited to add:  FWIW I ran two full loops in the dark.  I actually got handed my glow necklace as I headed out on my second loop.  And I have quite possibly the world's WORST night vision.  So if I didn't think it was too dark, it probably wasn't very dark.  But of course, that can partially depend on what phase the moon will be at and when it's rising and such...might want to check on that!

The downhill to the undercrossing after the big uphill?   Yeah, that part was very dark, as I recall.  And downhill.   I did at least one loop in the dark, I am sure it was more, just don't remember, but that was the only place I thought "this is dark."  There's lots of folks around you tho

Did they change the course btwn the April race and the November race last year?  I did the April race and I seem to recall a section on the back side going through some kind of park like area and across a small foot bridge that I thought was very dark.  I definatley feel like a need a headlamp.  Of course, I'd like to be done before dark but I have to be realistic and know that won't happen.

I think that is the EXACT place I'm thinking of...it was a downhill on the "far" side of Tempe Town Lake.  There were plenty of folks on my first few times around but on my third loop I was mostly alone over there.  But I honestly felt more creeped out on the path after you first cross over to the far side and take a right onto the bike path.  THAT felt more desolate to me even though it was lit.  I think because it was kind of far to any aid station from there.  From what I can remember there is either an aid station right before or right after the "dark section" we are all referring to.

Yes, the far side of the loop.  There is an aid station at the bottom of the hill before you go up (I ate lots of Chips Ahoy going up that hill ), and then there's one at the bottom of the hill you go down, asyou cross under the underpath

And you and Judy I think are talking about the park right before the big hill (Chips Ahoy hill).  You leave the river path, turn right, go under a bridge, and then run through the park.  Yeah, that was kinda dark too.

Its the end of the month and we all face a killer October. Let's see how we are doing volume wise.

Looking at my stats compared to last month, run and bike are up and swim is down slightly, which is not very significant. Thats about right for what I need. I had a really good month overall and feel much better than I did last month where I was still fighting off the effects of the bike wreck. I feel real good about my swim endurance and my bike is getting real close. Running remains the problematic area.
September's totals:
Bike:41h 04m 34s  - 752.27 Mi
Run:15h 55m 09s  - 119.68 Mi
Swim:14h 46m 46s  - 45860 Yd

August's totals:
Bike:25h 43m 19s  - 479.43 Mi
Run:13h 25m 44s  - 91.81 Mi
Swim:15h 47m 48s  - 46674 Yd

You all are getting in some serious bike miles!

My totals below. Pool was closed for a week so yardage was lower, but still at my target goal for weekly. Took a light bike week to finish off the month to prepare for the final 8 week push. Really happy with the progress so far and managing to keep the joints in decent shape.

September's totals:
Bike:30h 07m 59s  - 515.22 Mi
Run:17h 58m 54s  - 125.93 Mi
Swim:10h 47m 30s  - 31350 Yd

Wow...after looking at everyone's stats I am feeling a bit undertrained.  My mileage is down on both the run and the bike this month.  Not sure why?  I guess maybe work and life got in the way!  Plus...I've been focusing more on my swim.  One more month to get some decent milage in...and it starts today!

September's totals:
Bike:23h 55m 47s  - 418.34 Mi
Run:10h 58m 49s  - 82.83 Mi
Swim:9h 50m 17s  - 28499 M

Is anyone else doing the Janity Charity Challege...I'm about $1500 away from my goal of raising $5000 for the American Heart Association.  I've got less than 8 weeks to reach it!

September miles:

September's totals:
Bike: 21h 07m 25s - 364.22 Mi
Run: 14h 45m 29s - 96.96 Mi
Swim: 7h 13m 07s - 20230 Yd
Strength: 2h 30m

This is going to be the month of the bike miles. I would have broken 400 in September but had to move some biking around to account for work travel...

My minimum goal for the month was 500 miles bike and 100 miles run.  I just barely snuck that in.  Some of you are getting in some seriously good training.  I know that I won't be as well trained going into IMAZ 2009 as I was IMAZ 2008 but I sure am enjoying the journey.

September's totals:
Bike:29h 02m 22s  - 502.58 Mi
Run:16h 06m 48s  - 101 Mi
Swim:15h 13m  - 38307.96 Yd
