Hi All

Its been a rough week here.  I rode saturday and had a good ride.  Then somehow on Monday morning I managed to cut my eye.  This week I have been to the after hours clinic, the ER and a Optomologist, Which I go back to on Friday.

Not a fun week sitting in a chair in the dark.  Today i am seeing but it's like looking though a piece of tupperware.  I figure back on the bike tommorrow.  I might as well start week 6 over.

Sorry to hear about your eye Puppetmaster.  Get better quick!

I just finished w5q2 last night and all I can say is OUCH!  5 minute intervals at 106-110%?  A lot of weakness left my body last night.  My legs were definitely feeling the burn.

I feel your pain...when my youngest was 6 months old, she was flopping around on the bed and snagged my eye with her fingernail. It gashed my cornea...extremely painful...and now, I can no longer wear contacts and if I wake up in the middle of the night I can potentially re-injure the scar.

Be careful! Take it easy and listen to books on tape.

Finally through week 6.  Trying to keep my legs happy for my half mary so I'm easing a bit on these sets.

Finished week 6 testing and here are the results:

Week 2                                        Week 6
8.03 miles                                    8.21 miles
16.1 mph avg                              16.4 mph avg
158 bpm avg                               165 bpm avg

Looks like about a 2% gain.  I'm not sure why there was such a difference in HR.  I realize it varies from day to day depending on any number of variables but that seems like a pretty significant difference.

I decided to go ahead and repeat the 30 minute test as opposed to the 20 minute just so I could compare apples to apples.  I definitely felt stronger on this last test and maybe that's the difference in the HR.  I may have died out a little towards the end in the first test resulting in a lower avg. HR.

Thanks again for doing this Jorge!  As you can see by my lack of speed, I certainly need to focus on this area more.

Jorge, I've been a silent follower of your biking plan.  I'm up thru Week 12 Q2.  I just wanted say thanks for putting in the time and effort to provide this for the BT community.  I had already made up my mind to focus on the bike this off season and your plan has helped greatly.  These last few sessions are getting harder, especially the longer interval sets but I'm sure my efforts will result in better results this coming season.  After finishing the plan, I'll probably re-do some of the workouts until I can ride outside.  Thanks, again.

I am there too and I am thinking the same since it is snowing here. Are you planning to make longer Z4 intervals which went from 8', 9' to 10'? I am thinking to raise them slowly through the next few weeks...and what do you think of the session 5x4'? It stayed fixed there for 3 weeks...should we raised it to 5' for example? just some thoughts on how to add 4 more weeks to the plan...

Jorge first off thank you so much for the plan, it was great, got my butt into serious shape.
My first tri of the season is 4/11, about 10 weeks, I want to continue using this plan. Should I restart the plan at say week 5 and repeat from there.
Any input would be great.
Again thank you very much for your help

I wasn't going to change any of the workouts, they are hard enough already.  Rather I was goin gto just re-use some of the existing workouts like the couple posts suggest.

Yes, the final Week is in sight!  I was consistent for 8 straight weeks and then I needed a break.  Took me 2 weeks to finish Week 9 and now knowing that it's over at week 14, I'm ready to start 10 and be done with this!!  These sessions are like eating my vegetables... I hate doing it, but I love the results.  And yes, THANK YOU JORGE.  You Rock!

Jorge,

As we finish up week 14 I just wanted to thank you for helping me  move my bike fitness so far forward.  My husband and I have done every workout as given.  With Q2 and Q3 for week 14 still remaining to be done this week.

Along with 3 days per week of running and 1 swim workout per week, I am feeling like I am in amazing shape.

Can't wait for the weather to break so I can get out on some group long rides and keep up with 'the big dogs' as I call them

Boston marathon training is going into full swing, with 1 hard 1:30 or so bike workout per week.  I will probably do some spinervals, but feel like I could put a pretty good workout together for myself based on these 14 weeks of experience.

the thing that really made this effective for me was doing the LT testing and then having hr goals for every part of the workout.  I then became a workout with me and the numbers, it was all black and white.

Thanks again!!

I am very glad many of you have seen great results in 14 weeks. I've received PMs thanking me for the plan and sharing your numbers and all I can say is that I am happy to help and to see this kind of results is what motivates me to lead the winter cycling plan! On average based on the info shared by some of you guys people have increased their power/speed 15% + in 12ish weeks; that’s freaking awesome!

I hope you guys can keep building on top if this hard earned cycling fitness and achieve many PRs through 2010. I'll leave the plan on my blog for a while so please use it as need it. Shoot me PMs if you have some questions and keep me updated about your racing results.

If any of you want something more specific for IM or HIM racing please check out the online support or coaching services we offer and let me know if we can help you in anyway.

Good luck!

I know I haven't been active in this thread, but thank you so much for putting this together for us! I did it last year and had saw great improvements on my performance once the weather got nice and I went back outside. I don't have a power meter so I don't have exact numbers for you, but at my first race of last season no one passed me on the bike, that has never happened to me before! I hope to see even more improvements this year

Hello everyone,

If you please could share your improvements over the time you have followed the winter plan I would greatly appreciate it. You can shoot me a PM or email me to [email protected]

If you train by power just send me how your CP60 (aka FTP) improved everytime you tested and if you train by HR/RPE send me how your avg mph increased.

Thank you!

I started with Jorge's winter plan and did week 1 to 10.

I saw significant improvements. What I appreciated the most was the structure and a program based on a tangible measure like power.

My A race is a HIM in May and I was looking for similar structure for all 3 sports. So I switched to Jorge's 20 week HIM plan and it is as kind of like the winter cycling plan in structure but for all 3 sports. It is great !!! I slowed down masters because I really like the swim workouts

The workouts are based on power for bike, T pace for the swim and pace for the run. Very well structured, easy to follow, challenging but well balanced. Right amount of recovery, right amount of tempo, right amount of threshold. Regular testing is part of the program.

If you liked the winter program for it's structure, improvements and challenge, you will love his other training plans.

Of course, the price is more than free, but come on, the amount of money we invest in toys, bikes, clothes....and especially our time, it's a bargain. Efficient use of my time is easily worth the cost of the program.

I can definitely see the improvement in how many watts I can push and my HR at a given wattage.

Jorge, thanks for the cycling program, it gave me huge improvements and a base to continue improving.

I am starting the final week tomorrow.  This plan has been amazing and having it available really embodies the nature of this site specifically, and of Triathlon in general.  Never found a more helpful bunch of competitive folks anywhere.  In school or business it seems that any help offered is with the expectation of getting something in return.  Here it is just for the sake of helping someone else enjoy the sport/lifestyle.  Who knows if one of the people you help out may be passing you in a race someday.

Anyhow, thanks Jorge.  You have my nomination for BTer of the month/season for Winter 2009-2010.

Thanks a lot Jorge!
