Mel, I too hope that you are mistaken.  But I will send prayers either way.  Tough thing to deal with on a race.

Kate, that sounds so amazing!  I love that Shanti was there to help you!  I've got your RR bookmarked to read later.

Chris, I also have your RR bookmarked.  Hope you are feeling ok today.

Comfortable on the swim from the first stroke: √

Bike didn't interfere with my run: √

Sub 2:20 run: √ Surprised!!!!!

I had a GREAT race.  I laid down a 20km time that was just 2 min more than my open HM PR!  On a 12.5km long run.  Mostly easy consistent training runs work people!

I will write a RR later, but we are off to a BBQ.

I'd gladly take that over the heat. It's just rain, right? No lightning, tornados, hail, etc?

I'm with you on this one, Ben.  The heat and humidity are killing the joy of running here.

I ran late today, in the humidity and heat.  It was a great run, not for either of those reasons but I did find the joy.

A run is definitely gonna suck if you set the intention ahead of time that it is going to suck.  Sorry Jo, but you are right, your run is going to suck.  Self-fulling prophecies are more of a sure thing than a surprise that something is going to be better than you expect.

Wisdom, thanks Jo!

Oh well I beg to differ - my run didn't suck at all.  The rain held off, it was chilly but no wind - the bay looked incredibly green whereas it's usually a murky browny/grey colour.  I stayed in Z2 - sure it was slow but 12.7km was done.  It was warm enough to wear shorts - I felt good enough to wear shorts.

I came home as it started to rain but donned my gum boots and took Scooby for a play in the park with the other puppies.

Then home to stalk athletes at Roth and Vineman.  Finally got to bed about 1am - and woke up at 5.30 feeling great.

Some days life just works out.

Felicia, I am so glad you had a good race, you truly deserve it. And how awesome that it comes in tough conditions.  Great job!

Near sadistic masters set tonight. Think a fachme that hurt is in order. Lats are killing me. Honestly thought I might rip something late in the set, they were cramping during the recovery phase and hurt just extending (yes, before the pull).

Funny I was reading Brenton Ford's comments on his site www.effortlessswimming.com and he was happy that one of his squad threw up in his set!

I am so happy to see this.  I love the points that you made about each discipline--swim comfortable from the first stroke, gotta love it when that happens.

Looking forward to the RR for sure.  You're calming my nerves for my HIM this weekend--thank you :)

Look at all these good races--yay!  I'm a big fan of 70 and light rain for a race.  Nice.  Looking forward to the RR.

I'm with you on this one, Ben.  The heat and humidity are killing the joy of running here.

I'm still trying to figure out what makes this year so bad. My run fitness is about as good as I can ever remember it being and I can't really see anything that special in the climate stats considering it's summer, but it's just been beating the heck out of me this year.

I've felt the same way on this.  I'm chalking it up to a relatively cool spring and early summer, with a fairly rapid onset of heat and humidity (Ben, we live sorta close--has your weather been like that?).  I'm really hoping that the next few weeks prove that it's an acclimatization thing.

I did check out the weather for my HIM this weekend at it's supposed to be 75 with 7mph wind.  How freakin awesome is that?

Jo, your boy is a sicko.  Love it.

Lats hurting while extending?  Man, you're in a league of your own.  Strong work.

Sorry for the drive-by ... I've been, uh, waylaid.

Yup, still slumming it with one of history's greatest athletes. It's a real toss-up between Sheila T and him (and yes, I'm going to tell her that ). On the one hand, he dominated FIVE Paralympics. On the other hand, she's got a few sports up on him. On Hands-Marie's nineteenth hand which I'm borrowing, he's doing amazing things in ocean swimming now. Still trains with a super-fast squad of mostly young-un up-and-coming teenagers.

The guy's got the pain tolerance of Lance Armstrong. I'm not going to share further but the guy's truly one of the most superlative people I've ever met in every category and a hell of a crazy life story ... and I think it may have just gotten a little crazier.

Also genuinely humble and even shy.

Sorry, I'm kind of smitten. Okay, totally a smitten kitten.

We're going to do one of Sheila's workouts together tomorrow. Wish me luck. (Wish him luck? )

Between reading this and seeing your smiley picture, well, wow, I am so happy to see you're happy. Keep on keeping on!

We had about the same, so it could be that. A big jump where it seemed like the daily highs went up 15-20 degrees in only 2 days. I thought the indoor runs would have helped more than they did. The gym is kind of warm for such an active place. No fans on the treadmill either. I'd work well, sweat way more than I should, so not sure why that didn't translate to outdoors nearly as well as one might think. Seem to be coming around a little though. Just in time as we're supposed to be seeing 90 a good part of the coming week.

What's the weather supposed to be like at the time of your race? Many tend to look at the high when the difference can sometimes be substantial.

Sad news.  Someone did pass away at the race yesterday, which was my strong suspicion as DH and I patched and pasted together our individual sightings and experiences of the day.  Not a lot has been published about it yet, including age of the fellow, but here's the little news snippet:

http://www.whptv.com/news/local/story/Coroner-investigating-death-during-Catfish/g6qu_qxRQ0uSWWOA91S5qg.cspx?rss=50

Sadly I also got word from friends doing Musselman that someone died Saturday during the Mini Mussel on the bike leg and another racer was seriously injured on Sunday, also on the bike leg (edited to add my friends weren't hurt, it was people we don't know): http://www.fingerlakesdailynews.com/news/details.cfm?clientid=16&id=85227#.UeNO7W3l31I

Melanie and Chris I'm sorry about your negative experiences this weekend.

I'm looking forward to reading everyone's RR once I have a minute.

DS1 and I didn't race. Our 5k was cancelled due to a T-storm. I guess that's to be expected when you plan an evening race during Monsoon Season. We did have a chance to catch up with some friends we hadn't seen in a while, and still got ice cream :-D

DS2 is still en route to SoCal. Still don't know if the bike is on the same train. :-0

Still contemplating the TT this weekend.

I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed I just need to get used to it, cause I have a HIM coming up in the middle of August that will destroy me otherwise (a week after AGN too--yikes!).

My race forecast is a low of 60 overnight and a high of 75 with 7mph wind.  Woo-hoo!  I just need to make sure I do the right things with training and hydration this week through 4+ days of >90.

I'm really sorry to hear that I had been praying for anyone involved and now will continue to. So tough when these things happen at our races and each one is like its own community, not to mention the multisport community at large.
