Holy Cats!  It is time to talk racing again!  Who is ready for some action? share the details!

For those of us not racing, have you been doing anything special to recover from the season? share it!

I'm in for a race.  Wineglass marathon on Sunday.  First attempt at 26.2 miles!  Expecting to be a long day but will be very satisfied with finishing!!  Kris is running it too so we will probably run together for a bit in the beginning and then if I am feeling it I will pull ahead.  The races is a net elevation decrease so hopefully that helps!!  Race map

Getting on a plane on Monday for Japan so hoping I am not too sore!!!

Good luck to the other racers/leisurely riders!

Net elevation loss--QUADs will LOVE you later .....I hope you have an amazing recovery protocol on Sunday because Tuesday is usually the worst day for me after a marathon!  24 hours in a plane? YIKES!

If Tuesday is the worst day, I am in luck.  It will be almost 6pm Tuesday Japan time when I get there!!  Only ~12 hours of flying.

Recovery program includes going directly from the race to kids soccer games and then home to pack.  Hopefully I can sneak in a chocolate milk or something Laughing

My advice is you buy two 10lb bags of ice on the way to the game and then sit on them and have Kris rub it over your legs while you watch!

Please be careful on the plane.  My sister did a HM and flew from Cali to PA the next day.  She ended up with a couple pulmonary embolisms the doctors suspected was due the cross country flight so close to her race.

George, you need to make sure that you have compression apparel on for that flight and pay attention to your body.  Whenever there is a multi-hour plane or car ride after a strenuous event, you need to be on the watch for deep vein thrombosis...

Since Kris is running too, then I will have to do the same for her.  The two of us sitting at some soccer fields rubbing each other with ice with a bunch of kids running around...that might get us arrested!

Thanks Andy (and Rachel!).  I planned to wear my calf compression sleeves on the plane and get up routinely to keep the legs moving.  I will read the article you posted and see if there are any other suggestions.

Since people have been posting about injuries, let me give the opposite side of things.

As many of you know I have suffered from bursitis in my left achillies for over a year. With PT and exercise I have kept on racing, although my run is weak.

Yesterday I noticed something or rather the lack of something. During this injury my achillies has been tender to the touch. The degree of tenderness varied, but there was always some. Yesterday: no tenderness! Same today! Here is hoping that it is past me. I intend to work on my run and weight in the off season (Starts 10/30 for me). With this pain gone there might be a full IM in my future one day.

Good luck, Dale...oops, I meant George!

Net negative elevation...ah, both of my marathons were net negative...i found that my quads were screaming less and later in the race if i shortened up my strides on the downs, especially at the beginning of the race when you are feeling good...no jokes necessary re: my already "short strides"

Might I suggest walking around that soccer field as much as you can while spectating???

And yes, ice bath!  Compression on the plane and yes, get up and bother your seat mates every hour or as much as possible to stand up, stretch and hang out with the insomniacs.  DRINK lots of water!!!  I actually did much better at recovering on day after IM vs. day after Boston...two short flights with leg room compared to one loooooong one stuck between two sleeping people.

Have fun!!!

Jayne- Big congrats on your race and running the entire run! Honestly, one of my fondest running memories is still the first 5k that I ran the entire distance. That is HUGE!

Tony- Your races scare me. Glad you had fun!

Dino- Congratulations on the PR!!

Doug- I'm so happy to hear achilles is feeling better. Congrats on the race, sounds like a fun one! Good luck this weekend!

Julia- thanks for sharing your experience. I know my body feels better when I run more frequently. When I run 5 to 6 times a week, consistently, my speed improves too. Thanks for the reminder.

Steve- Totally jealous that you and RP will be there live! I want to see lots of pics!

Linda (velcromom)- That does suck. Hope all turns out OK with the MRI and they get you patched up quickly.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, TONY AND SAM!!!

Thanks, Kyla!

Doc thinks it's my back...again.  MRI tomorrow, appt Friday, tentatively scheduled for injection Monday.  48 hours of NOTHING, then no training at all for 5 more days.

This STINKS.

Bummer.  Sending positive vibes your way....

Linda - sorry about the back, should be lots of time to get it fixed still.Roni - I love the photo's, the kids all want to visit America next year so maybe we'll do some camping too?Suzy - love the teenager sign, I'll show my 13 year old...George - be careful with your post-marathon recovery, might even be a good idea to take half an aspirin for a few days??No racing for me, Noosa tri is now 4 1/2 weeks away and I might fit in a sprint before then.

Here's a couple pics from Wyoming:

This is why I love camping... these were our breakfast guests our first morning in Jackson Hole.

and the beautiful Teton Range

Those are awesome.  I wish my husband was more open to camping.

Ha!! In our house, we forget that ibuprofen can be taken in twos, not fours...!! Half? Why bother!!

Speaking of fours, sweet hubs has been super-duper sick, like temp still 101.8 last night after 3 ibuprofens (I was trying to get him to cut down in an effort to prevent renal failure). Fever seemed to break this morning and hasn't come back last I checked. Egads. He wanted to close bedroom windows last night because he was so cold (fever) but I didn't want to sleep in a petri dish so I got him more blankets. So far, so good (knock on wood).

LOVE the pics, Roni! Thanks!!

Go George and Kris go!!!

That's all I got!!

Edit: GO JARRETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd best be the best darned race sherpa out there, Mr. Davis!!! She deserves it!
