Sam and I are back, didn't finish nearly where I thought I should have but I am going to blame it on the fact I have been running not riding lately.  My avg mph isn't really much more than I have done in tri's and this thing was pancake flat with almost 0 wind.  Still had fun, nice relaxing weekend after eating some crabs and relaxing in a B&B, then back on the road for an easy 30ish on Sunday.

Congrats Kim that is awesome.

Dannette, I agree with everyone else, take it easy.

Looking forward to getting back to normal this week, My dad and his wife are coming in town on Friday, then a few days later my dad, brother and I are heading down to Alabama to the RTJ trail to play 6 rounds or so of golf in 4 days.

Hate that I had to miss some runs this week but luckily it was a recovery week, so back at it and a nice 17 or 18 miler on Sunday.

EDIT, sorry John, forgot you raced, those are great times man, you are getting so much faster.

fattyfatfat - 2009-08-22 8:48 PM Matt.  Way to man up!

Barry.  I gotcha man.  This was my first Saturday race and I keep having to remind myself that its ok to go to the fridge,  tomorrow is Sunday.

Sam. You drive a truck?  *big smile*  You busy Tuesday night?  Maybe we can get a beer or something.

Tony.  booties?  really?  *shakes head*

If you count an Acura MDX as a truck.  That's just how we distinguish b/t the vehicles for the kids.  But I know all about trucks.  I grew up on a farm and my mom used to pick me up at HIGH SCHOOL w/ bales of hay in the back.  And on the rare occasion - horse sh*t!  UGH!!!!!!!!!!!

EEK! Scary on Eagleman river swim!!  It was my fear for the Hudson during the NYC Tri in light of last year's reports.  Fortunately, it was too cold for them this year, thank God.  Still I swam my heart out to get out of there.  (Not to mention it was pitch brown.  But really, I did NOT want to see what was in that water.)

Thanks everyone for your encouragement.  The only problem is I am with Team in Training.  I hope they will let me pull out without penalty, but really I think I am not doing well enough to do it - and I'm undertrained and 12 pounds overweight to boot due to illnesses.  I told them I wanted to do Wildflower again with them in the spring - maybe they will let me transfer.

Sigh.

Big thanks. :-

Feel bad about potentially missing out on a race.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

John - nice ride man!  You are certainly not slow.

Barry - Awesome ride.  Especially with the legs feeling good after.  That is great news.

Kim - Nice PR on the 10K!

Had a really good swim and fun group ride today. Spent a lot of time on better breathing and siting on the swim which helped a great deal.  Almost felt easy.  We started out with 6 on our ride and ended the day with 2 people.  One thing I realized is trying to do very perscribed Tempo rides with a lot of people doesn't work. Too many different paces and stops.  How do the rest of you handle this?  I think my only recourse is to ride solo which isn't nearly as fun.

Kim--aka Twin, awesome job today.  I bet the man is happy with your performance!

Tony--while I am sure you did well, improving on the bike while training for a marathon is really tough to do....always trade-offs!

Andy--if there are any jellyfish at Lonestar, I am definitely not coming!

Danette--take care of yourself first!  It sounds like you need a little extra R&R right now.

Tomorrow is a rest day for me.  I am trying to embrace it!

Hey all, the day has slowed down enough for some BT time...  I improved about 12 minutes today on the same course as as the tri in May.  RR is up.  I am happy and disappointed at the same time.  Happy that I improved and exceed my goal, disappointed that I did not beat my buddy...  Didn't he know I was supposed to beat him?    Time to get caught up on all the posts from the weekend...

kt65 - 2009-08-23 5:27 PM Danett-Good luck to you, sounds like your doctors will nail this down and the get the anemia figured out...as for taking time off, your health is the number one priority...both physical and mental.  In my experience it often seems that one follows the other.  Good to hear you keeping a positive attitude.

I ran the surprise 10k today and had a PR of 46:06!  Quite unbelievable if you ask me...I couldn't believe I could keep that pace for six whole miles, but since I was supposed to finish feeling sick to my stomach, I went all out.  They didn't give out age group awards for this small race, but I was 4th overall woman and 15th overall place (maybe about 100 total runners).  This was actually a fun race that they call "Time is on your side"  No watches, HRM's, pacers, ipods... Participants guess their finishing time and whoever comes closest wins!  I took an exception and didn't enter the contest because I needed to get my heart rate reading for zones, but I would've been WAY off, by probably 2 minutes!  This guy actually missed by only one second! unbelievable.  This would be really fun to do again next year, and enter the contest.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Nice!  PR's make me happy!  Really, a guy missed calling his shot by 1 second?  That's knowing your pace!

Danett, take it easy for a while.  Listen to the medical professionals around you.  They generally know best.  Your nutrionist is right, this is supposed to be fun.  If it is not, then don't push, find something else to do for a while and come back to it later...

dalessit - 2009-08-23 7:42 PM Oh, and this is why I will never do Eagleman, this is the same river that the swim is held in.

Um, yeah - good reason...

Don't think jellyfish are a problem at Lonestar...  Jellyfish tend to be seasonal around the TX coast.  Then again, anytime you are in the ocean, there is a chance...

The ocean?? Surprised  The web site pictures makes it seem like a serene inland lake!

Taper week 1 has begun.  Today is a rest day and volume is heading south.  I hate these weeks, but I am going to stick to the plan if it kills me.  The last thing I need is someone telling me I sucked it up big time on the race because I was overtrained and underrested....sigh!

Technically it is the back bay behind the island of Galveston.  There will not be any swells and probably very very little chop unless a northern wind blows in.  It is salt water though...

Also remember salt water means you float even better.

Actually we're not even in the back bay, its in Offats Bayou, so even more protected.   Definitely no swell.   West wind is the worst of the two because of the long fetch across the bay and even the airport won't block much.  Then you stand a good chance of seeing some decent chop because its so shallow.   But really its nothing to be worried about.

Just make sure you learn to breath left because the sun is on your right from the start out to the first turn.

lol!  lots of talk about the alligators at the race this weekend on the texas forum and at a party we were at yesterday!

also i heard a guy got hit by a car at the race.  got more info last night.  first off he's ok. his bike is messed up a bit but that can be fixed.   it seems he got hit at a controlled intersection.  he rolled up on the hood of the car then fell off the front as the car stopped.  as he was lying there on the ground in front of the car the driver honked at him to get out of the way!!!
the guy got up and wanted to get back int othe race but the cop stopped him to make sure he was ok.  the cop did stop the driver too.    unreal!

okay, john, now I for sure am not coming to Texas, I cannot breathe left for the life of me...no matter how hard i try, it escapes me...

Thanks all, for the kudos, off to the pool for me!  it's been a week and a half since I last did any swimming at all.  I think there are some one arm drills in my workout...

I just have dark shaded goggles for that reason, I only breathe one way, still working on getting faster before getting "fancy"...

Kim:

That is your reason for not going to Texas?!! I have many more reasons, and breathing on the right side never entered my mind. Laughing

I replaced my dark goggels with clear goggles.  I saw too many shadows in my ocean swims while wearing my dark goggles.  Decided better to deal with the sun, than freak out over something that wasn't even there

Happy MONDAY everyone!

Yet another reason Kim and I were separated at a very long birth.  I am a right side breather and while I will do my darnest to get over that by April, it may not happen.  Like Tony, I have tinted goggles so the sun isn't much of an issue (of course how often do I really site anyway?).  Unless it is a shark or an alligator nothing in the water bothers me much.  I see tons of fish and weeds everyday in our Wisconsin lakes.....off to do more cleaning.....and maybe a little work?????
