cadmus - 2010-07-20 11:35 PM I went for a swim with a small group at Lake Padden tonight.  My first OWS of the year (sad, I know) and several in the group already have one HIM done this year and are now training for Lake Stevens.  I was a little intimidated when the group decided to swim to the softball fields (long way across the lake, a little more than a 1000 yds out).

The highlights from my swim:  My longest OWS and by far the furthest I have been able to maintain bilateral breathing in the open water.  And to top it off - as another guy and I, the first finishers, were waiting for the others he asked me if I swam a lot - no, swimming background? - nope.  "Wow- you move really well through the water, I was pacing off you the whole time and I didn't need to sight."  That made my day.

Matt- that is wonderful!  Congratulations on a awesome swim and maintaining such beautiful form!

x2 great job Matt, now get out there and race!

YEAH.... WTH are you waiting for?  Great job last night.  I was up there yesterday, wetsuit in car, but no time.

What is this "racing" you speak of?  I'm just trying to balance out my icecream habit with little exercise - you know, keep the belt on the same notch

swbkrun - 2010-07-21 11:45 AM Ok so aside from racing and training let's get to know each other just so slightly (not to steal Suzy's Wed. Thunder).....

On a deserted island:

1.)What's the one cd you would take with you?

2.)What is the one type of food you would take with you?

3.)What is the one material item you would bring (aside from family)?

1. If I'll be running, Nevermind. If not, Lyle Lovett's I Love Everybody

2. cereal

3. laptop

what type of cereal????
Lucky charms??

Ew, no! The mix changes, but current fave is a mix of raisin bran and granola topped with frozen blueberries. The milk left over is cold, sweet, and blue!

Trevor, you should have known that a stellar athlete is not going to be eating a sugary low fiber cereal like Lucky Charms!  Me, I'd pick Captain Crunch Peanut Butter!

On a deserted island:

1.)What's the one cd you would take with you? I'm going to cheat and bring a book on CD - any of the Harry Potters will do.

2.)What is the one type of food you would take with you?  CHOCOLATE CAKE

3.)What is the one material item you would bring (aside from family)? Goggles b/c it must be a tropical island surrounded by lots of coral and pretty fishies.  My sharkie tatoo needs company in the water Wink

Back after missing approximately the past 60 pages or so.  Glad to resurface.

1. Galactic's album entitled "Crazyhorse Mongoose".  Kind of a laid back chillin' sort of album since I assume I will be there for some time.

2. Chocolate - and lots of it.

3. Laptop or Blackberry.

dalessit - 2010-07-21 1:33 PM And Jeff, sorry I forgot to answer we are in Sandstone, MN, about 80 or so miles north of the Cities on 35.

There is a long trail that runs from Hinkley to Duluth that is all paved, awesome trail, and the 2-3 times we have been on it we have seen maybe 3 other people.  I think it's more popular in the winter for Snowmobiles.

Did you get any of the Tornado on Sunday?  We went through about 2-3 tornado warnings/watches on our way through upper wisconson, lower Minnesota.

We had grand plans of meeting up with you on the way back then we realized how tough it was going to be to get back with enough time to get my daughters birthday party together when we get back Friday and her party is Saturday.

We avoided the Tornados on Sunday, although we were out of town, they still were a ways from our home.

The trail from Hinkley to Duluth is what a majority of the first day of our MS150 was on, gets a little tedious at times, but its amazing having that long of a stretch!

Have a safe trip home!

1 - I would make a 'mix tape' Something to appease all my musical tastes.
2 - Hmm I would have to agree with the Chipotle Burrito, a good mix of carb/fat/goodness
3 - My gut reaction is my bible, but probably my iphone since I also have an electronic version.

Nah, I have a mega sweet tooth. I just don't think sugary cereal can take the place of proper sweets like peanut butter m&m's and ice cream!

Hey Dineen

Very tacky to mention your wife's homemade coffee cake while showing the boobs of another woman...no matter how hot or fake they are! Seriously.

I went for a ride with my coach at 2 PM today. Timed it perfectly with the discussion here about heat and humidity.

We were doing hill repeats/intervals. it was 98F outside. I started to feel light-headed and had to stop and sit in the shade. When we got back on the bikes it was all I could do to hold a half-reasonable line. I had no power and fought a cramp in my right calf. I drank the whole time. My neck was real stiff.

I have experienced that before. I told Marty I was a rel sweater, but he got to see it first hand. I think that was the first time I have impressed him. Not that I wanted to do it by sweating. My sweat-rate is normally 1lbs./10 minutes. In this weather I am sure it was higher.

I am glad it is over and I am in the AC.

THAT is not good.  BE CAREFUL!!!!   yeah sweat rate is something to watch.  doug i'm with you on the sweat loss... it nothing for me to lose 4% body weight on a hour run.   here's a hijack from one of ryan's post's last june. we were talking about long course nutrition but it's relevant to this.  thanks again ryan.

~~~~~~~
"...make sure that you're watching your electrolyte balance and fluid intake. Part of this would also be calculating your sweat rate:
http://www.trihardermultisports.com/THM_SwRate.aspx
and thus determining your fluid loss. Make sure that you're staying within good levels of hydration (too much can be as detrimental as too little). Watch your electrolytes too... I use Thermolytes, especially when it gets hot out. Imbalances become very obvious when you come back from a hard workout and your skin is salty. If you're using fluid calories, it's difficult to remember that you may need to take in plain water from time to time.
Hope that helps!"
