Expert 706 New Orleans | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Boston Beginner - 2008-05-11 7:50 PM Hey guys. I made it. It has been a crazy day and I'm exhausted. I just wanted to let you know I finished. Had a terrible swim, bike was good, and legs cramped a bit on the run. I was 222/232 and 27/27 AG. I am thrilled to have completed a triathlon with only 12 weeks of training and pissed I did so bad. I didn't realize I was this competitive. I am really going to push it now. Next race is June 14th. I will do race report tomorrow. Good night. Nice job triathlete. Feels good, doesn't it? Just remember that feeling of crossing that finish line, and it's great motivation for your workouts. Congratulations on a job well done! |

Austin, Texas or Jupiter, Florida | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Great job everyone! It's great we had so many people racing on the same weekend. Owl Girl, glad the landslide happened before the ride and not during right? Also, sorry to hear about the stupid lady who crushed your stuff. That really sucks. I'd've found her car and crushed it!!! Josh, Don't fret the finishes. Someone told me a while ago DFL is better than DNF which is better than DNS (Dead Fing Last is better than Did Not Finish which is better than Did Not Show). 12 weeks is such a small amount of time to get ready. You'll be booking on the next one. What were your transition times? There's a lot of free time to be made-up there. Jeremy, Really great 1 mile and 3 mile times. Still no baby but the nesting made my weekend pretty rough even with two good workouts in there. Does anyone know a good site to calculate calories from exercise? I did a run and a weight workout and I have no idea how to list the weight-training. I keep a pretty high heart rate and keep moving in the gym since when I was a wrestler, our coach used to punish us for sitting and not lifting. We had to be lifting, setting-up, or spotting and it's just stuck. |

Champion 6539 South Jersey | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! It looks like everyone had a great weekend of racing -- WOOT! I can't wait to read all the RRs. We've yet to hear from Aikidoman, so I hope his race went well too. I didn't race this weekend; just did a metric century and then some. It was the hardest ride I've ever done. Fortunately, the ride was tougher than Placid, so it's all good. I also used my tri bike since that's what I'm doing Placid on, but a road bike would have been better suited for this ride. I really didn't read anything in this thread from Wed-Sun; let me know if I missed anything good. I'll try to go back and read it, but work is rather hectic since I was out of the office most of last week. I'm glad you're all well ! |

I'm back to a normal schedule this week I spent the first half of last week in a class and the rest of the week and weekend in Charleston, SC. Good times, but I'm glad to get back to things being less hectic. Nice job to everyone who raced this weekend. I'm looking forward to reading the race reports!

I finished my race report last night and it's up. When I reflect on it, it was probably my best race ever. Not a PR (by a couple minutes) all due to the conditions and had some timing mishaps that were out of my control. But a really good race. (See race report for details if you want) Not to steal Lisa's thunder, but TRIANING WORKS!!!! WooHoo!!!! |

But I'm still doing them, and you are too, woooo! Going to read your RR now. |

Austin, Texas or Jupiter, Florida | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Aikidoman's Prediction IS passed. He said Mother's day at 2 pm. Alright, we can re-start the bidding. She's scheduled for an induction on the 21st but we can start right now (She's not in labor now though). Does anyone have a good calorie calculator? I have a website, but I can't guarantee the accuracy and the only options are swim, bike, run, other. If anyone knows one that's better, let me know. (I get this off and on so it isn't new to me.) Do you think it could be due to riding in my crooked cycling shoes after that chick ran over them? This is a complete guess here, but I'm going to vote that a bone-related injury is more likely to come from running. Although, you never know the "chain of events" that can occur in the body when one thing starts to compensate for another, which could have been triggered from the shoes. It's probibly best to replace the shoes, even if they didn't cause the shin pain, they are not worth the risk of other things that could start hurting if you keep using them. This could be a good question on the injury forum though. |

Do you think it could be due to riding in my crooked cycling shoes after that chick ran over them? I JUST read something about them in Runner's World this morning while waiting on my car to be serviced. They said that shin splints are due to the calves being too tight and the muscles in the front of the shin have to work harder to flex the foot up. They said keeping the muscles stretched is a good thing..... ALSO, (laura may be able to pitch in) Plantar Ficitis is ALSO a result of tight calves, resulting in pain in your heels. ALSO, tight hamstrings prevent you to get aero and is tough on your lower back. I think I'm going to start a regiment of stretches to hit the gluts all the way down to the calves for some injury prevention measures.... |

Champion 6539 South Jersey | Subject: RE: LaurenSU02's group - CLOSED! Shin splints aren't a bone-related injury, but would come from stress either on posterior and/or anterior tibilas, and/or the related connective tissue (there are multiple types of shin splints). Once those tissues and muscles become overstressed, you could develop stress fractures in the "shin" as your body relies more on your bones to absorb the impact of running; but until that occurs, it's not a bone issue. It could be from the cycling shoes if they were forcing you to use the muscles in your lower legs differently. But it could also be from running, etc. I didn't read the RR yet to get the full detail on what happened to the shoes. Keep on eye on them, and attend to them as you have in the past. Hopefully it passes quickly. Keep us posted . |
