Thomas - the quote function isn't including enough text to show your bike bag question but I wanted to let you know that both Ken and I use an under the seat bag with everything we would need for a tire change.  I know Justine uses a water bottle for everything rather than a bag but most folks don't race with one in the shorter races.
ETA  - we carry CO2 rather than a pump.

Question?? What is your nutrition when you go for a long run. Lets say over 2 hrs? I know everyone is different in their nutrition and our bodies take it in differently, so! what is your libation? I ate an hour and something before heading out for the run (prob around 2000 calories). At the two hour mark in the run, I was hungry. The only nutrition I took for the road was a Roctane Gel and a bottle of water.

Regardless of the length of my run I actually have a fairly normal breakfast.  For me that is <400 calories usually.  My usual cup of coffee as well.  Then I wait for about an hour before I head out just to make sure everything is settled.  I usually don't take anything for the first hour of the run but if I was going for about 2 or more I would start taking a HoneyStinger at that 1 hour mark.  Then it kind of depends on how far I am going but I might not have another but I for sure would wait at least 30 minutes.  But, I tend to do one per 6 miles, which is roughly every hour on a training run.  But, if I have less then an hour left I'll skip that last one usually.

Question?? What do you carry for bike tire essentials? I see MOST athletes don't carry the "under seat bag" for carrying a tube or pump. Do you carry those on one of your back pockets?

Everyone I bike with uses an seat bag.  My tubes are in the bag and I have the pump on my top tube.  I have a full size pump.  I refuse to use CO2 cartriges but that is just the tree huger in me  I'm not going to win any races so I don't need to add to the landfill.  And quite frankly, the pump I have will pump a tire as fast as a floor pump.  Oh, and the pump on my top tube cause I have a small bike.  Personally I don't change a thing for races.  I would rather have a slow result instead of a DNF.  No way I want a flat tire to end my race.  I'm fast enough at changing a tire I still won't come in last.

I just wanted to say a quick thanks to everyone from this mentor group. This last week has been really challenging getting the family home from the hospital and on the mend. It's going to be a long haul but thanks for all the inspires, thoughts and prayers, it means a lot. I would like to be participating more but the recovery comes first. I'm trying to get a quick workout in here and there to keep me mentally together but any organized training has been put off for at least another week or two.

Traumatic accidents really put things in perspective. I thought Ironman was hard ...

Have a Happy New Year everyone. I hope to be back and more active come 2010.

Best Wishes

Jessica

Question:  How do you all keep track of what your suppose to be doing at the pool and tracking to the fact that you are doing it?  Or do you just wing it when you get there?  Starting in Feb I'll be doing the HIM training plan and they have sets and stuff for the swimming but I know I won't remember what I am suppose to be doing.

I haven't done this myself but it is normal to see someone with a swim plan/drills in a plastic sleeve or even laminated right there at the side of the pool.  They take a look, do a few laps then look again.  I actually think it would be easier to keep track if you had it laid out and did different things then trying to keep track of the same freestyle laps over and over again which is what I do.... when I swim that is.

i'll write my workout on a 4 x 8 note card and put it in a plastic sandwich bag.  i tried smaller note cards but when i had a quick turnover on sets the smaller writing was a pain.  a pack of note cards and a box of sandwich bags has lasted over a year.  and i steal the note cards from the office so the only real cost is the $3 box of bags.

good luck with your HIM training!

houston peeps how about this 50 in cypress on the 23rd

Ouch!  Only a week after the half, not sure I'll be able to walk yet.  Ken might be interested though.  Awesome that it is so close!

I think June needs a pettiskirt too - perfect for her birthday!

Thanks!  We don't see the point in making them any other way.  I mean, if you're going to go through all the trouble you might as well make them cute, right?
I have to confess *I* wanted one of those pettiskirts for ME!

I'll have to get a pic of our boys up too - equal billing y'know though at 14 and almost 17 the cutness factor is different Smile  Dear Lord, something that came out of my body is about to turn 17, just doesn't seem possible, his b-day is on the 30th!  Yikes!

Greetings peeps.  The body has finally decided to return to the land of the living.  After 9 days of trying to forcibly expel my lungs from my chest and redefining *snot rockets*,  I am feeling human again.  Will catch up on BT reading later today.  Tomorrow I may even try the pool for an easy swim. Maybe work on drills that don't challenge the now non-existent cardio fitness.

Back later!

Hey everyone........great 3 days off.  Glad it is over though!  Hope everyone got what they deserved from Santa.  I got nothing but I am naughtier than the avg Tri, so it makes sense!   Did get some quality time in with the family and Gym, so I am happy camper.

Played in an co-ed open gym tournament yesterday for the first time in six months.  Played 7 matches and lost alll seven but great workout for me!  Having a rough time moving today or for that matter breathing....boy am I sore!  Not as young as I once!

One last week of crazy life for me and then back into the tri-life.  We have a family Wedding on Thursday so with all the hoopla time will be limited to see my BFF/lover Gym!

? for all you Garmin users: how often do you use the HR feature on your 305?  I have some gift cards to the local tri store and I am thinking about a Garmin, but don't know if I should get the 205 or 305.  Any input?  I have HR on my watch now and never use it (lost the chest strap) so I kinda doubt that I would use it on the 305.
