Didn't feel like being on my feet standing around so just kept on driving. Definitely skipping it this time since I will be staying at home until the morning of the race and would prefer to relax there. Timing is totally bizarre. We barely have Friday since we have to get up so early to get to the ferry by 4:00 a.m. To me that will be a little bit of a lost day so relaxation on Thursday will be the goal.... That's exactly why I'm considering skipping the dinner & briefing.... I will be staying with family in NJ Thursday night, and feel like it would be better for me to get into the city, pick up my packet, and just get back to their house and chill/get to bed early rather. If I stay for the meeting, it's gonna be fairly late by the time I get back to their house.
I normally pass up on these (my wife thinks these are just "I love me" fest and she does have a point i suppose looking at a non-participation view). However I do go when she ain't there and enjoy being there (the dinner not the brief, I miss the brief most of the time). Having said all that I really don't think it's a bad idea for someone that's never been to go to the brief - and on this race there might be some "different" rules unique to NY/NJ and this is where it will be put out. |

I live a few blocks from the finish so yes!!!! when are you getting into town??
I am in the med tent 1pm-1am - with the peak time expected to be 5-9pm. Likely 4ish I will go feed my dog. Is your family coming? do they want a place to hang near the finish? |

Member 68 | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread For those of you skipping the Dinner/Meeting Victoria said they will be doing a Q&A session on Friday around 2:30 at the IM Village. So you could always hit that for the brief details. One week away. I can't wait to just get this thing over with. Going out for my final 2 hour ride and half hour run now. Tomorrow is 1 hr Bike / 1 hr Run and then it is nice easy short stuff going in to the race. Hope everyone has a great race. I would wish everyone luck but there is no luck involved just lots of hard training!! Of course a little luck on the weather would be nice. Mark |

Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread I'm attending the dinner on Thursday..I'm really looking forward to hearing all they have to say about the course and any detail that could be good to know. I'm also looking forward to meeting some of the other athletes as well. We all worked so hard I can't imagine not soaking up every detail of the scene!!! This is my second Ironman and I believe the before and after is just as fun as the final victory lap. We paid nearly $1000 for the "whole package" take advantage!!! Any more news on ebbs and floods??? I have no idea how to read these tidal charts. |

Thats a very nice New York August day :-) I've been routinely checking 3 or 4 different weather sites, and forecast range from low to upper-mid 80's (85, 86-ish), and 20% - 60% chance of precipitation, so hard to say.... I'm just glad that none of the forecasts are for > 90 degrees, and humidity looks like it won't be too bad. By the time I get out of the park into the exposed part of the run, it will likely be past the hottest part of the day, so I've got that going for me |

Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread Is anyone able to make heads or tales of the tidal currents for our swim? Still praying for the current to be with us. I'm banking on every minute between 7a and 5:30p. The bonus of a faster than predicted swim would be fabulous!!! |

I have a feeling we will be putting lots of IVs in.... Lets hope not!!!! I ran my last run before game day yesterday, intended on doing 8 miles and stopped at 6 because it felt like I was running in a tropical rain forest. I live about an hour north of the race venue. If it is that hot and humid on Saturday it will be a very long day for a lot of us. |

Regular 183 Parker, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread I think the only conclusion to draw about the tide/current is that there will be a current assist for the whole swim, and that it will get bigger as time passes after 7am. The actual downstream current is a combination of the tidal current, which starts as slack at 7am and increases downstream after that, and the net flow towards the ocean of the water flowing into the Hudson, which varies with upstream conditions. You'll swim faster than usual and you don't have to worry about being fished out of the river up near the Tappan Zee. As for the weather, I like reading the "Scientific Forecaster Discussion" linked on Weather Underground forecasts - it shows the thinking behind the current forecast based on how all the various models look at the moment. Basically looks like a front with some storms will be coming through late in the week, just not sure when, then cooler and dryer for a day or two. Would be nice if the front got through before Saturday morning. One thing to consider with the forecast is covering your bike as much as possible after setting it up Friday. I think they usually only allow covering the handlebars and seat - if rain possibility stays in the forecast, I would definitely come prepared with some bags and ties. I'm doing most of my packing today, fly out Wednesday night, check-in and visit family on Thursday, set-up transition and hang with family again on Friday. After signing up almost 14 months ago, nice to finally make this happen. |

Master 2158 | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread I think you nailed it about the forecast. A front must be coming through, and if it gets here by Saturday, we will have cooler weather. I ran for an hour in Central Park yesterday...yikes, it was brutal. I was drenched. Hoping the humidity is lower no matter what. I didn't make it out on the bike this weekend, but am planning to unpack and re-build my bike today and ride today or tomorrow. |

Fingers crossed for lower temp AND lower humidity. Honestly, it's been like this ALL summer... Only positive I can take from it is at least I'm sort of vaguely used to it... But I'll be doing a lot of walking on the run, I can guarantee that. Not holding out much hope of a Friday storm clearing out the humidity; we had one come through last night, and I was hoping today would be cooler and more pleasant. Not so much. |

Veteran 248 | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread a few questions for the gang: 1) do we know if finisher medals will be handed out @ finish line Saturday, as opposed to the Sunday "athlete celebration" day? i think that Sunday will be focused on AG winners and kona slots plus I can't envision logistics of making all finishers come back on Sunday to claim a medal. Any thoughts? 2) bike pump -- do we know if there will be pumps avail in transition on race morning or are people bringing theirs? 3) leg hair or no leg hair? thanks |

Master 1790 \Windsor, Ontario | Subject: RE: Ironman U.S. Championship : Official Thread Hey Team. 1) Saturday I hope but I would crawl back on Sunday to get it. 2) They have published that they will have about 20 pumps available. I hope so, because I won't have anyone at transition 3) Smooth Leaving tomorrow early from Canada and driving to NYC. Should be about a 12 hour drive. Save travels to everyone as they make their way to the race. Lets have some fun and see what happens. IM #1 for me.
