I'm on Fink's plan and this week is the olympic distance race.  I'm going to do a simulated race on Friday...have a longer high rpm spin on saturday and long run on sunday.  My long rides have been 60-70 miles and my long runs have been up to 13.  Looks like they will ramp up here very soon.  Have a couple of century rides on the docket for may.  Can't wait for June 24th!

Did my longest ride ever yesterday, 75 miles.  It was 45 degrees and poured down rain the entire ride!!  Better weather can't come soon enough!!!

Nice job.  It rained pretty hard all day yesterday too (at least in Seattle and Redmond).  The only bonus is it has been raining so long that there isn't any more oil left on the roads.

Weather has been super wet down here in Portland so far as well.  I would love some sunshine any day now. I am curious for anyone who has rode the course already what are you running for gearing on your bike? I currently have an 11-25 do you think that will be enough?

Based on last year's recommendations (which I realize was based on the old course), I'm going to swap my double for a compact, and put an 11-28 cassette on mine.  To me, losing speed downhill is preferable over running out of easy spin gears going up hill.  But YMMV.

(sorta) Good news!

MRI came back and doc says I have a (small) tear in a ligament that has been healing.  He said there isn't much swelling, so he's clearing me for activity as long as I let pain dictate how much I do.  I'm going to build my runs back up over the next few weeks, but still switch more time over to the bike.

That and lots of physical therapy to strengthen the ankle so I don't roll it again.  Plus icing and Celebrex.

The kicker is I still have absolutely no recollection of when I rolled/sprained it 6 or so weeks ago.  You would think I would have remembered that.

Gearing is pretty dependent on the individual. I'm running an 11-25 right now with a 53-39 up front. I haven't ran out of gears either time I rode it. The hills are long but not super steep. Of you're a strong cyclist I think 11-25 would be fine. Personally I don't want to go any bigger than 25 in the back because you start to lose the middle range of gears. On a side note, is anyone out there using strava.com. It pretty fun to play with. I keep loading my gamin files into it and finding segments I rode that I didn't even know we're there. There are a few segments on the course. Its a fun way to see where you stack up with other people in the area. I personally I'll be dominating the segment in my basement today. Too wet to get outside. Good luck to those racing Oceanside and Galveston this weekend.

Thanks for the gearing advice Scott. I am a decent cyclist although fairly new in the grand scheme of things. I am hoping for a 5:30-5:45 bike. I am currently running the same gearing that you are. I think I will stay on them for now and try them out on Memorial day weekend when I come over with a group for a training weekend and make the final decision at that point.

Another month in the books. Here are my numbers-swim: 36950 Bike: 584 Run: 129Work and life are starting to get in the way but I'm plugging away. On a side note I see that we'll have a Tim Odonnel Chris Lieto matchup in Cda. Should be neat to see some big pros there again this year. Sorry for the lack of spacing. My iPhone does not respect the enter key.

Scott, were you an 11-25 on the previous course?  I rode 11-27 in 2008 and really needed the 27 when the old course kicked up to 11% briefly.

Hey, everyone. I just found the thread. I have been wondering if there was one. Just had to look. This will be my 2nd IM. I did St. George last May. This will only be my 5th triathlon so I am very new still. Just wanted to introduce myself. I live in Las Vegas, so if anyone else is from Vegas let me know.

Yea I rode an 11-23 my first year in 2009. Ouch! I only did that because I didnt know any better. I live here so I rode that old course dozens of times and I knew exactly what I could do on it the. Second time around. Enlglish point on the old course was pretty brutal the Second time around but I made it. I'm pretty light and have always climbed pretty well so it is definetly a personal thing. This new course is going to be one that favors a more powerful rider rather than a smaller technical rider such as myself. Speaking of sickness I'm just getting done with a killer battle with the flu this weekend. I have yet to train in April. Now is when the training really starts to matter.

I'm thinking about riding the course that day as long as family stuff cooperates.  Should know later in the week.  Are you riding the course as well?

How has the shoulder been on highway 95 for riding? Lots of debris or is it pretty clear? Thinking of heading out there Fri. or Sat.
