Oooeerr, this new layout is different.

I had a truly awful ride today. I am totally disgusted with myself. I had a 5 hour ride on the plan and ended up quitting half way through. I felt miserable, I messed up my nutrition, my legs felt like crap and then turned to jello. I am really mad that I called it quits, but I just didn't have it in me. I also have a new saddle sore the size of a freaking walnut. The 'ride' was followed by tears, F bombs and all sorts of bad words.

Just venting

I have a Cobb V Flow Max and it feels good. Have you had a good bike fit? Makes all the difference. It also took me a while to get comfortable in the saddle for long periods of time.

Sorry to hear about the ride. I am glad you stopped though if you felt like crap.

Good luck to everyone racing!

I am as nervous as can be today. I think I'm more nervous when I have athlete's racing a big race than when I am racing myself.

I know you're in MA but we're doing a girls only ride (probably me and one friend who is doing IMLP and another who is doing IMMT) of the Rev 3 course next Sunday. It'll be a laid back pace and good company. If you're looking for some ride support and want to join us, you're totally welcome. It may help just to have some other people around to ride with.

I am so sorry you had an awful ride. It just wasn't meant to be. Bad rides like this make you appreciate the good ones that much more!! Take care of that saddle sore!!

Question about saddles:

How much discomfort should I just HTFU and deal with and at what point should I look for something else? I rode the stock saddle for a couple of months, couldn't get comfortable on it, and switched to a Cobb vflow. I've been riding that for 2-3 months now and it's still not comfortable for me (i.e. it's killing the area where my left leg meets my pelvis to the point where it's still sore to the touch a full day later). Seat discomfort seems to be my biggest limiter on riding time/distance at this point and I can't imagine another 3-4 hours of the discomfort I was feeling toward the end of my ride last night. Do I just need more T.I.T.S.?

Can you post a pic of your current setup?

Asymmetrical pressure can be caused by several different reasons: your seat might be cocked just a hair to the side, you might have an imbalance in leg length or flexibility (especially common if you keep a wallet in your back pocket), you might have a cleat alignment issue causing your left knee to angle inward or your saddle tilt could be off.

The cobb is a very reliable saddle so I think, if we can just figure out the cause of the imbalance, you'll be much happier.

Looking really good. 4 hour marathon would put him at 11.5 hours (about) which would be a sweet time for the first time out.

Frustrating, I know, but this is actually good news - now you've got this year's bad ride behind you. Try a run or a swim tomorrow to let this one go, and by the time the bike works its way around again, everything will be back to normal.

For the saddle sore, I think Kelly's advice about a hot bath and lancing it is the way to go. I read somewhere that the old school European pros who had to ride every day used to deal with them by putting a slice of ham or turkey or some kind of cold cut in their chamois. I don't think I'd try that unless I was really desperate...

Do you know how Scott is feeling? How does one feel after a first other than elated and thrilled to be done. Physically, what should he expect?

I'm finally back after the crazy week at work, but the new format is making my head hurt. I'll try to catch up on all the good stuff that happened while I was gone (as soon as I figure out which buttons to push).
