shhh...peeps must be sleeping, it's so quiet in here!!!

oh, Garmin, why do you have to make my choices so difficult?

They just released this...looks like it's listing at $399.

I have been using my 2007 FR305 and this year it has been giving me fits with crazy HR spikes when it's cold out and other issues like the buttons getting stuck while running so I cannot switch between screens, and had been thinking about getting more of a run only watch like the 210 or even the 405 or 610 cuz they are round and smaller.

I have a Garmin 500 as my bike computer that reads my HR, cadence and power...thought it'd be nice to run with a less bulky watch.  Now they release this one!!!  And it looks like it has some swim features for lap and OWS that the 310xt did not have.  Aiya.  What would the MG do???  Buy a used 310xt or 610 when everyone jumps to buy the 910xt?

I guess I'll stick with my FR305 at least til it craps out.

I am all about the latest gizmos, but my one caution is buying first gen technology.  So far, I haven't been impressed with the 310XT ability to do anything in OW and my JOULE while sexy has had functional issues.  Both were first gen.  I might suggest you wait until the second generation (fixed all the bugs unit) comes out.  Of course, if you current unit craps out, I would buy it.  Silly to buy a 310XT if you really want the swimming functionality.

I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!

My 305 crapped out during IM training last year. The battery wasn't holding a charge for my long rides, and one day I went out for a run and the screen went all gibberish on me. Unacceptable. So I winced and ponied up for a 310, as I figured the longer battery life would come in handy. LOVE IT. And Dave has had nothing but 310 envy since I got it, so easy-peasy, I'm gonna get him one for Christmas or birthday (12/28). Well shoot!!! The 910 looks awesome!! I think Suzy has a great point re: 2nd-generation, however... I'm half tempted to buy one for myself and re-package and re-gift my 310 to my husband! Ha!! Oh geeez.

I will console myself with the release of the new iphone today... when I got my ipad for my bday I was told I could keep it or return it and wait for the iphone 5. So glad I opted to keep the ipad as the iphone 5 is just a 4S and not really so different after all. I win!!

Only a month? You'd never make it here!!

Any day w/a break in the rain, now until about May, will be a gift. Blue skies? A huge bonus. More than 65 degrees? Bikinis and beach weather.

No wonder Steve and Ryan are in Hawaii. (Gonna try to run Cougar all by my lonesome on Thursday...)

Question for IRONMEN???

I am 4 weeks out...yea!  I really haven't been obsessing over this whole nutrition thing, but starting to really think about it...probably about time.

What kind of calorie intake should I be shooting for on the bike?  On my long rides, I have been putting using 2 bottles with 525 calories each infinite and adding a couple energy bars or gels.

I have a century coming up in 2 weeks and a shorter ride this weekend and want to give it a good test.  What rule of thumb should I be shooting for.  I really can't imagine having GI issues, as I feel like I have an Iron tummy.  Maybe a hamburger at special needs?  lol

Let me be the first to say asking a bunch of us that question isn't smart.  You really should have that dialed in this close to the race.  How have the two bottles and bar/gels worked? why don't you think that is the right strategy? are there electrolytes you use on the bike?

I've seen all sorts of things in the SN bags, but remember the hamburger you put in there will be sitting there from about 5am until at least noon...and thousands of bags are loaded on top of each other to get the the SN area....and it will be hot and baceteria will have built up (even the PBJ I used to use is out because of bacteria in hot weather). I think foods like that are asking for GI issues.

Not trying to be a jacka$$ at all, just challenging you to think why the strategy you've used isn't right.....

Barry I'm clearly no nutrition expert so I'll leave that alone other that I'm glad to hear you are finally thinking about it. Ha! That Hundo 2 weeks before the race needs to happen this weekend if at all possible. Next weekend latest. 2 weeks to go you need to be chill'in IM style.... I don't think much positive can come out of that type of ride so close.

Just KIDDING about the burger Suzy.  Jeesh!  Actually the Infinite that I have been using along with a couple of gels or bars has been sufficient for my rides, but I have not done a marathon after, and wondering if that is going to be enough.  Typically I have felt fine, but ready for an egg sandwich when I get home.

Right now I am planning to have my 2 bottles which will be 1050 calories, and then throw in couple bars or gels to add in another 6 to 700 calories.  Does that sound logical?  It will be gels and sports drink on the run.

Actually John, we are planning on riding a hundred in two weeks which will be 3 weeks before the race.  Probably do 80ish this weekend, hund next, then gear down for the remainder.

My plan has been whacked, because I am not able to run per the plan, so I have been biking and swimming more to accomplish the volume.  It is pretty much "fly by the seat of my pants" from here on in.  Running a few shorter runs but no runs over 10ish ... and they have to be slow to keep the knees from flaring up.

3 weeks out, i did the full 112 miles on a saturday. Nutrition is so specific, but i tried to get in 300 calories/hr on the bike. Infinit/gels on the bike. Then in T2 i had a slice of pizza, some fries and half a burger.

Oh and one other thing - you never know on race day what can/will happen. Irongut or not, after 6 or 7 hours on the bike, you've never run a marathon. You stomach may be doing backflips. Especially if its hot.

One other idea for you if your gut starts causing you issues on the run, COKE.  My coach recommended it and I gave it a whirl when the Carb Pro was no longer tasty.  It sat fairly well and kept my CHOs up.....by the way it is really CHOs you care about, not calories.  You could eat 10 pieces of bacon and get the calories you need, but probably not the best for fueling an endurance event.  Geesh!

yeah, isn't alcatraz entry ~475 bucks...  i was offered a slot 2 years ago through a friend that runs the east coast / gulf coast qualifier.  was pretty pumped until i saw the cost.  but everyone i know that raced it loved it.
