This is the most awesome news!!!

I may try Twizzlers during an upcoming Saturday group ride, just for a change of pace. I have done Gummy Bears and Swedish fish on those rides, but I'm not sure how "Real" they are

I also love Hammer Gels, but they are faker then Pamela Anderson.

Ooooh, slammed Hammer Gels and a Canadian in one fell swoop!  Ouch!  Hammer seems to be the product my body will tolerate...apparently they are a slower digesting carb (maybe because they are fake??)

I was curious so I looked this up.  I've been using Hammer because that's what's on course at B2B and I plan to live off the course for the run.  Left to my own devices, I generally prefer the Gu flavors and smaller packaging size but I do like the Apple Cinnamon Hammer when it's hot out.

Hammer Gel = Maltodextrin, water, depends on flavor

Gu Gel = Maltodextrin, water, fructose

Powerbar gel = Dual Source Energy Blend (maltodextrin, fructose), water

Honey stinger = tapioca syrup, honey, water

Breakdown of sugar composition typical to honey (from wikipedia)

Fructose: 38.2%
Glucose: 31.3%
Maltose: 7.1%
Sucrose: 1.3%
Water: 17.2%

I just might have to try the MTB option if the roads don't get cleaned up quickly. Laughing

I'm a bone head.  Is this the composition of maltodextrin?  And it's like honey?  Just want to make sure I understand the post.

I haven't had maltodextrin (that I know of).  It's not sweet?

Yep, I can't believe how fabulously this turned out - and all through total coincidence.

I think a mountain bike might be in your near future if you don't have one already!

I'm sure that you've had malodextrin.  It's a type of sugar like glucose is also a type of sugar.   I just listed the first three ingredients of various gel type products that are commonly used and since honey is the one of the main ingredients in Honey Stingers (go figure!), I listed the breakdown of honey itself.

Um... maybe a less harmonious relationship, but possibly a more adventurous one?  Wink

Interesting... Well something in the powerbar gels do not agree with me. I don't have an issue with honey either. Perhaps it is the relative percentages of each sugar?

I was having the crappiest day yesterday and feeling quite out of sorts when out of the blue one of the lawyers I work with sent me a $50GC to Amazon to thank me for all the great work I've been doing.

You have NO idea how much this meant to me and pretty much made me tear up since I've worked with a lawyer before who would throw things at me (including a stapler), punch walls, punch cupboards, yell at me, yell at clients over the phone and even tried to argue with me that dog fighting is a legitimate sport.  I lost ANY AND ALL respect for the man after that one.  I found out a couple months ago that he's left the legal field completely and now manages a couple of MMA fighters.  Seems fitting, no?  Anyhoooo - the short version of the above is that I've never had the situation I'm in now, with someone actually appreciating the work I've done, and it almost brought me to tears - but in a good way.

If someone I worked with threw anything at me - not in jest- it would have returned to him or her with double the force!  Or at least that is what I would want to do That behavior is not only totally unacceptable it is illegal.  Sorry you had to endure it and I'm happy to see you have a much better work environment.

Janyne, fake was not the word I should have used, processed is the word I should have went with. From wikipedia: "maltodextrin is such a highly processed ingredient that the majority of the protein is removed, rendering it effectively gluten-free."  Like I mentioned before, I am a fan of their stuff and you are on point, the Apple-Cinnamon is a win. Montana Huckleberry hits me just right as well.  If I didn't use honey, I'd probably get the jug of Apple-Cinnamon Hammer though.

Been reading and following along with the nutrition stuff.

Personally, I keep it pretty simple:

1 bottle of water for ever bottle of sports drink.

Powerbars - love the choices I have.  If I'm feeling fruity - no problem.  If I want a cookie - no problem.  If I want chocolate - no problem.

Besides the flavors - I like them because it's easy to track my calorie intake.

Oh yeah - almost forgot.  I ESCAPED MY SH*TTY JOB!!!  (Just got the offer today)

I start my new job on 8/12.  I can't wait.  I will make about 2 1/2 times what I make now - I work from home - set my own schedule and from what I've learned about this boss - he is way cool and not a micro manager.  I'm very excited.

Congratulations on the new job!  What will you be doing?

I'm a bone head.  Is this the composition of maltodextrin?  And it's like honey?  Just want to make sure I understand the post.

I haven't had maltodextrin (that I know of).  It's not sweet?

I'm sure that you've had malodextrin.  It's a type of sugar like glucose is also a type of sugar.   I just listed the first three ingredients of various gel type products that are commonly used and since honey is the one of the main ingredients in Honey Stingers (go figure!), I listed the breakdown of honey itself.

Duh, OK I'm sorry.  I see now.  For goodness sake, thank you all for being so patient with me.  But they sell Maltodextrin powder, right.  Just plain powder that you can mix as a drink?  I don't think I've had that.

All the gel like stuffs have a tendency to make me sick.  I have, however, been able to tolerate the honey stingers when i only consume about 1/2 the packet at a time.  I also use powerbars - brownie is the bomb!  In the past I played around with Uncrustables and must say on a long bike they really hit the spot.  I didn't do so well with them in my first HIM because I don't think I digested them properly, so when i hit the run I was not happy.  I also didn't get enough calories on the bike (only ate 1 of the uncrustables and mainly had water for the remainder of the ride), so my nutrition was an epic fail!

LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE the new avvys that are floating around right now!

That's fantastic!!! Good for you.

I start my new job on 8/12.  I can't wait.  I will make about 2 1/2 times what I make now - I work from home - set my own schedule and from what I've learned about this boss - he is way cool and not a micro manager.  I'm very excited.

Congrats! What will you be doing?
