If you are, lay down the details! I know of at least two dudes toeing the line.... For those of us on the sidelines, is there one goal you still want to accomplish this season? what is it? and how're you going to nail it? I am racing on Sunday. This is my 3rd Oly for the year and my "A" race. This race is on a tough course (lots of hills) so I am not looking for a PR in any way, but is usually very well run and very small (only 90 total racers in the Oly last year) so I would love to finish well in my AG. Sorry I have been quiet this week, in my usual funk during Taper week. More importantly and the reason this is my "A" race is because I am racing in honor of a buddy and neighbor that passed away from ALS in March of this year after a 21 year battle ... at the request of his family. It was a hell of a fight! http://www.jsonline.com/news/obituaries/87541862.html Many members the family (mom, dad, wife, kids, etc.) will be at the race and I am staying at his sister-in-laws house (also a close friend) for the weekend, so I am sure the "Blazeman roll" at the finish will be very emotional for all involved. I know Jeff will with me on the course and this race is all about his fight. Good luck to all the racers and big trainers this weekend! Stay Safe! |

I was on a schedule but life shot it out hte window, I am trying to stick w/ it but for some reason it is really hard right now as all I want to do is ride the bike. For those of us on the sidelines, is there one goal you still want to accomplish this season? what is it? and how're you going to nail it? Woo Hoo - I'm not racing this weekend but I finally have time to respond to part B. One goal left this season? Yes - I still want a sub 6 hr. HIM. So 8 weeks from this past Monday I am on a misson. I told my coach to bring it on! Sept. 18 - I am going to be a lean, mean, fast triathlon machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No whining about swim workouts, no skimping on the bike miles and stop lollygagging on the Z1/2 runs. I don't always train w/ technology just seems like a hassle sometimes. But I discovered recently that my Z1/2 RPE is not the same as my Z1/2 HR. So I need to pick up the pace there a bit. I guess that is what happens when you get a little faster and fitter. Darn - I liked poking along! ![]() |

When someone gives you the magic advice for that problem - please pass it along. I may be able to drag myself to the pool more often! I think we all favor one of the sports or two in triathlon and struggle w/ the other. Even the pros! That's where your mental training comes into play. It is mind over matter - when you fight through a tough workout or improve one of your weak spots, you will gain more confidence to overcome problems in the race. Maybe for the running try a lot of variety in workouts, routes and put on some favorite tunes! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() No races for me. In fact I don't have any races left between now and Augusta. Weird feeling. Goal for the season, I want to finish Augusta with a strong run, having nailed the nutrition and super confident to start my Canada training. Even though my last HIM was not so good it taught me what I do bad and how to improve on it. Therefore strength, running base and nutrition management it is. BRING IT ON!!!!!! As far as training the weak spot I am right there with you. For example, I 've bailed on a 4 mile run I was suppose to do Tuesday morning for 2 mornings in a row now. I've told myself I must go do it at lunch. The funny thing is I feel so much better when I complete a training run, but getting my butt out the door is the hardest thing for me. Good luck Dave and Doug and all the other racers that haven't chimed in yet. |

I liked it the most and I was the best at it....my coach is the one who changed my thinking....he basically told me I could be "just a runner" or I could get over myself and lack of speed in the other sports and work them to death....that's what I've done. Early on in the process it bothered me to be slowing down while running to work on S/B, but over the course of the year, the transformation occured. Now I consider myself a triathlete who runs.....it's really mindset. Who wants to be called "just a runner"???? ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am not racing this weekend But GOOD LUCK to those that are! My goal for the season (It has been since January 1st) to finish Augusta with a smile on my face. This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit with a friend who is also a nutritionist and a Triathlon Coach. I am thinking about hiring her to guide me for my remaining time and then afterwords for nutrition/run help. She is super fabulous and provided me a ton of tips this weekend and a sample training plan for me to follow for the week. My body is definitely in shock but I think it is going to pay off big time. I struggle hardcore with the run. It is my serious weak spot. I started off as a runner 3.5 years ago and ventured into tris last January. I can say by far that I feel most comfortable as a "triathlete" than as a "runner". While I probably have the most experience in runner it is definitely the sport which I am lacking. Especially when you compare me to my age group. Typically I am middle of the pack for swim and bike (occasionally higher than middle on those two) but in the way back for the run. It is definitely focusing my training a bit while still giving time to the other two sports. After Augusta, my goal is to focus on weight loss and building my run base. I would like to hit a sub 30 min 5k and a sub 2:30 half marathon in the near future. (Current PRs 5k- 32:44, Half Marathon- 3:39:17) |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thats a good point, I would certainly feel more accomplished to do a full IM. I still want to do it in the next year or two. I am pretty excited to ride tonight, it is the first time I am doing real steep/big long hills to work on building the strength in my legs. I can do alright on solid ground but the lactic acid onset is pretty quick. I know that running will also help build strength and endurance as well. Tonight is a 50 miler so I shall run tomorrow. I will also say that I have learned to set myself up for success. I am pretty bad at getting up early in the morning, particularly for running. I can do it OK a few times a week for swimming but not routinely. Knowing that, I try and limit the number of workouts I plan to do in the morning. There is nothing worse than saying you are going to get up in the morning for a work out and then bailing on it when the alarm goes off...very de-motivating for me. Because of this, it means that sometimes when I can't fit my workouts in at lunch or in the evening, I am on the treadmill in the basement at night after the kids go to bed. A little strange sometimes to be on the treadmill at 9:30 pm but that is what works for me. Two other thoughts for you - you have a biking partner, find a running partner or group. Maybe there is one at the rec center where your pool is. It is always easier to get up for the workouts when you committ to meeting someone. Also, if biking is what you like to do, make that your morning workout - you might be more motivated to get up early. You will make gains in your cycling from the 15-20 mile rides too, you don't have to go long all the time.

For those of us on the sidelines, is there one goal you still want to accomplish this season? what is it? and how're you going to nail it? I don't know what happend above...apparently the computer doesn't like me this morning. I am racing this weekend. The Cayuga Lake Oly. This will be my first repeat race so I am looking forward to seeing how I compare to last year. Goals - 1:45/100 (1:53 last year) on the swim, 19 mph (18.5 last year) or better on the bike, and sub 8 min (8:15 last year) on the run. If that all comes together, I should be around 2:40 for total time (2:45 last year). Last year it poured the whole time during this race. That made for squishy and sloppy run since it is on a trail so I expect that my run should be better than last year. The bike has a 1+ mile 7% grade climb right out of transition (and another slightly shorter 7% climb near the turn around)and since hills are not my friend this year, this is probably the high risk part of my plan. Swim last year was very choppy due to storms so I think my goal there is well within reach. |

I usually do the 20 miles when I am alone, my buddy likes to go big so when I ride w/ him it is always at least 35 miles. I see what you are saying about cycling, unfortunately by me the roads are not safe to ride in the morning and I dont think I could get to anywhere in time to ride. I think running is hte only thing I could do before work. The rec center is too far in the wrong direction lol. Unfortunately my work is a drive and the opposite side of the city from where we live and do everything. I will look in to a running group, my wife wants to run w/ me but we have a hard time getting someone to watch the little one but we do it sometimes. My cycling buddy will run w/ me once I get my miles down. He runs half marathons and marathons around the 8m or 7m a mile mark so it may be a while on that one. I am truly not making excuses but I just need to figure out how to get the run in before work. I hate mornings as most do I think. I have been better about getting sleep so that may make it easier. And it would give me more time w/ the little one so this may work out. |
