For those of you who have seen my post in TT, would you actually bring it up to the person who did it?

What if that person happened to be very high profile in the running community?

I thought about this some last night, and from my perspective from the back row it "doesn't affect me, so I don't care" came to mind at first. However, that is not really true. In this case the pacer is prohibited, per the published rules of this race. And the rule is in place for everyone and for good reason (reduce crowding).  Flip side of the coin is the question of repeat offender.  I'm guessing this isn't a Lance type of offense.  Is it a one time deal?  Or has this happened before? And in so far as the high profile is concerned, those folks are often held to a higher standard, as they have the most to gain from a good performance.  So for me, the only real question is "how do I react?" And I think that is your quandary.  You certainly are within your rights to question the RD about it or to question the competitor.  I think I'd be apt to question the RD, as he/she is the one that put the rules in place.  And it is their race, both to profit from and to regulate.  It might be beneficial to speak with the racer, find out if she even was aware of the rules, or how it affects others.  This might be a good step as well if you have any type of relationship with the person, so that she knows it is coming from the place of a fellow running enthusiast, not some rule wielding whiner.  In the end, I believe it is the RD that should be involved.

One of the things to note is the higher profile of running in your area, the proliferation of elite athletes and the affect it has on all of them when someone skirts the rules.  Going forward, I would hope this is not a concern, not with this RD and not at this race.

Wasup Manatees!

Been a crazy few weeks. Was in Vegas for 6 days and with all the snow and Ice in Dallas it made for an interesting trip getting there and back. Ended up driving to Houston to fly to Minneapolis then to Salt Lake City then to Vegas then way too much hydration and food then not even sure how I made it home. Still managed to nail my pacing on my race on Saturday and finally caught up on some rest Sunday.

Saturday pacing splits. My goal was to run very consistent in high 8s to low 9s depending on how much leg strength I had (considering all the traveling)
5k 9:06 min/mile
10k 9:05 min/mile
15k 9:06 min/mile
Couldn't be more happy with how consistent I ran. I finally feel like a Triathlete again. Hopefully now that I'm home I can put in some good work this week.

On the pacing subject.....I told my family specifically DO NOT even walk towards me during my Ironman last year. I stopped on every lap and gave high fives and hugs. Was not worth it to me to have anyone even suspect that I was getting help. Rules are rules. Not that it would have make any difference in my day. It was about the experience not the time

Because, you know, Minneapolis and Salt Lake City have no snow or ice

Glad that you made it there and back safely!

Do you know how hard it is to run in a Gorilla suit? I do the Denver Gorilla Run every year and I thought I was going to die this year because it was so hot!

We broke the Guiness World Record in 2013 for the largest group of people dress as Gorillas.

hahaha, I don't know which "don't" I like more!!

This is great!  I think "Don't scream at a cow"  is my favorite.  Either that or "Don't chew gum.  Exercise your jaws in private."  Or maybe "Don't strike a match on the seat of your bloomers."

Saw this article about alternative protein sources in this morning's paper.  It made me wonder:  if you're a vegetarian, are bugs still off the table as a food source?  If anybody's interested in trying some recipes, a book I have, "Why Not Eat Insects?", has some.  It was originally published in 1899.

Hello Manatees

Well I fell off the face of the planet for a month due to work. Many 70+ hour work weeks and I started back into a University certificate course that is taking 4 days a month away from work. Which only means catching up on weekends to keep up. This month is a little bit better but is shaping up to be fairly busy as well.

Upside, almost no work outs in a month but it was 6 degrees C outside and snow was melting yesterday. I haven't run outside in months and haven't even been on a treadmill in 5 weeks.

My friend pushed me to get out and run 4 km with her yesterday. It was sloppy wet, slippery snow covered sidewalks, but it was sunny and beautiful outside. I was wearing a tshirt on my run. And today my quads feel like I ran a half marathon, the unstable surface is the contributing factor right? It isn't just that I am out of shape and the 9 lbs I lost in Jan I put back in Feb.

Just side with me on this please. Blame it on the snow.

IT JUST FELT AWESOME TO GET OUTSIDE.

I am a vegetarian, so I feel qualified to say that bugs are off the table as a food source.

Well if you want to be picky...

The FDA allows companies to have a certain amount of bugs and rodent droppings in food, so I think I get enough of that that I don't have to add more!!

We've thought about trying these. Curious to see what kind of flavor difference is noticeable. I grew up lacto-ovo vegetarian (eat some fish now), but somehow the idea of cricket flour doesn't bug me.

hahahaha! That was awesome. It's one thing, besides our winters, AZ gets right.

Funny. I like researching and knowing the why's of things, but never thought to check that. Always heard it was for farmers, but thought it silly for "modern times" since my grandpa went to work 5am til dusk no matter what.

Well I think I am getting over my bout of FOMO, at least temporarily.

Coach Michi and some of the others are signing up for IMAZ 70.3 and told me I should do it with them. Well between Erin's description of the bike and my wanting my Saturday mornings back I'm not super interested (slightly but not super). Which is progress for me. Normally I'd be going nuts wanting to do the inagural with them. I guess I can be taught.

I am still considering doing Pikes Peak "with" Salty, though. Because the challenge of that one intrigues me.

Interesting. Honestly, I wouldn't have spent the day in one spot waiting for J to come around. It was part of keeping us entertained to walk/hunt for him along the course. If anyone wanted to be annoyed or suspicious about a 7yo with a sign and a 3yo in a stroller, so be it.

Thanks I knew someone would understand.

I know it turns out I am just out of shape. My running partner did all of the talking on the run. Ok I spoke for the first 3-6 mins after that it was all her. As she galloped along at a much slower pace than she normally runs.

Soooo, why only considering?

Ummmmm, fear of having my azz handed to me by the great Pikes Peak? There's a reason that America the Beautiful was written up there. It's friggin HIGH!!!!!!!

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
