Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() dalessit - 2010-08-05 9:06 PM So my race this weekend was supposed to be my last "A" race of the year. Due to travel and such, pretty sure it's not going to be. So I think my plan is going to be not to screw up and try to remember to do everything (for once) that my coach and I have talked about and I have wanted to do. Swim: Start in the front row. Plain and simple. People swimming over me don't bother me. Me running into people does, starting in the front row should take care of most of that, as the faster swimmers will take off and pass me anyways. The races I have done this I have had better swims, seems simple enough but I seem to often get distracted and usually remember right around the time I run into the first pack of breast strokers that started in the front row. T1: Simple, no socks, leave shoes on bike, no rubber bands, I can slip my feet in as I go along. Run past the mount line and jump on. Dont' try to put shoes in, during the first 50 feet unless there is an easy opportunity to do so. Bike: Ride in Power Zone 1/2 for the first 5 minutes, make sure my HR gets down from the swim, Ease into it and ride appx 200Watts for the ride, make sure to drink from infinit every 10 mins or so, depending on the heat. T2: Nothing much here, I think my T2's have been good, I do a flying dismount and run through with bike, no socks so fast T2 Run: Take the first 3 minutes of the run to focus on form, get my HR down and legs into it. Want to run this in the 7's, which I should be able to do easily but just never seem to pull off a good run in a tri. Going to carry a Gel to take about 1/2 way through or earlier if needed. Any thoughts on that plan? don't over think. you're there, now just execute. coming out of t1. without having seen the bike course, particularity the first mile or so. 50 feet? no. first 1/4 mile. yes. 24.8 miles is a long way to make up a few seconds. get outta there. out of the way of all the idiots thinking they need to drink or get in their shoes or whatever. nice and smooth paying attention to the hr and idiots. |

So as I was shopping for new bike shorts I saw they had Maternity cycling shorts! I can't imagine anything more uncomfortable! It got me thinking, would you gals still ride if you were pregnant? Steve, is Kim still riding? From the looks of the model these were 3rd trimester shorts and I can't imagine fitting on a bike at that stage. I guess it would be different if it were a hybrid bike or something that sat much more vertical......So what did all the moms in our group do for exercise while pregnant? There is a VERY pregnant lady in my fitness class at the gym and I am always so impressed with her. Such motivation when I don't want to exercise and she is there working it! Washing dishes/vaccumm/general cleaning and such kept Michelle moving. And in that workout barefoot isn't a new fad like it is with running, it's always done that way right? uh-oh. lets not talk about barefoot anything right now. i need a big orange margarita with two straws!!!!! explain please i'll spare you pics of the bottom of my feet. check my log. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reason for the planning is I've done 4-5 races since LS and didn't really have a plan for any of them, they were all kind of down hill after LS. Training still there but race planning hasn't. Trying to get that going and remember to actually do all that stuff when I get out there. I tend to forget 2-3 things. |

While the easing into it for 5 mins will be beneficial, testing a "slightly" more moderate bike might really help the run (depending on your answer to my question). I have the same question for the run--planning Z4? maybe a little metnal toughness here! Like "No matter what I won't walk"....maybe stop looking at your pace and run totally by RPE. I have become a huge fan of some of Endurance Nation's podcasts. While I am focusing on IM, their advice seems so pratical to me. You might see if they have anything from Oly to HIM on Itunes...they're free! Good luck! don't stress! Some of my best races are those where I care very little! ![]() |

I rolled over this morning and went back to sleep instead of getting up for a workout that may now be hard to fit into the day. Last week was such a great training week and this week has sucked. I've been tired, no time to fit in all of my workouts and my muscles just feel drained of all firing power. It is very frustrating. ![]() |

For the run Z3-Z4, but try not to go straight to Z4. Haha mental toughness would be nice, I seem to be lacking in that during races. I tried the not stressing about races bit since LS, but didn't seem to help, still didn't meet expectations. Going to experiment with the starting off slow thing, I think I end up shooting right to and over my planned zones on the start of the run and bike which makes it all that much harder to recover on the rest of the bike/run. I'll check out the EN podcast. |

I'll check out the EN podcast. I was thinking about you on my run this morning. Have you ever just turned on the GPS and run totally by feel getting yourself to the point where you know you can hold something for about an hour? I know when I focus on pace or HR in a shorter race like a Sprint or Oly, I get too wrapped up in the numbers. I'm either trying to speed up or slow down. I stopped doing that for all races, including HIMs and go as hard as I can given the circumstances. I also give myself an out. I will only walk through X number of water stops. Both seem to keep me more focused and mentally tough! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I actually don't focus much on numbers while racing sprints and oly's and do most of it by RPE. Which is funny because I focus on them in training but not so much in a race (HIM, was different, very much by the numbers to make sure I didn't blow up early) |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One pic from my race this weekend, can you tell my seat looks a bit off at nearly 7 degrees negative, funny I was comfortable and never noticed having to reposition or sliding. (Ok so I can tell the difference between endurance vs race vs sprint) but sometimes 230 watts feel like 200 or 195 feels like 500. |

It's great b/c the class is at a park so the kids can play and we can workout. I used to go all the time but had to stop b/c of other training. I decided to sub this workout for my hour bike today. I'll get to the pool this afternoon. But we had fun and it got a smile back on my face. :-) I hope everyone has a great weekend of training, racing or family fun!!!! |

Sometimes we need to interject the fun back into training. I did something similar this week. I blew off whatever the schedule said and went for a group ride with "my boys." I had so much fun chasing them around that I forgot how much I was working. If it isn't fun then why are we doing it? Like today, I think I might blow off my swim and go get a pedicure. After all the running I've been doing my toes are getting fugly. And I run faster with pretty feet ![]() Edited by tahrens 2010-08-06 12:17 PM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So I have had something going on with my right ear for a while now. I hoped my body would knock it out on its own, but I finally went to the Doc this AM since it has not been getting better and seems to be worsening. Also, I decided to be be careful about things like this after reading about BiggyFuzzyDoug's cancer diagnosis in Cup O' Joe. Well, I have some kind of infection. I get my drops tonight and some Claratin, and hopefully that will clear things up. My jaw aches and the Doc said that is from liquid draining down my eustacion (sic) tube. I have been feeling run down lately, and maybe it has something to do with my body using resources to fight the infection. I know this is not interesting perse or sexy, but I just wanted to share. |
