I haven't been here for a while. I'm not too keen on the new site format, plus I've been focused else where, though my running HAS continued. It just hasn't gone at the rate I "need" to achieve 1000 miles this year. It's early September, and I am about 190 miles behind the rabbit. That said...

I think I am going to abandon my 1000 miles in one year goal. Cramming in all the miles I have left is going to be quite abusive on my body. It also isn't too conducive to improving speed. It's great for increasing my endurance, but I want more speed AND the endurance.
I'm also thinking of doing more speed work. Just forcing myself to pile on the miles is taking its toll, but I'm not getting faster. I like that I can now run longer and longer, but I want to be faster.

Reaching a goal is not worth injury for sure. Ramping up my volume has increased my speed with no speed work. When I added speed work last year, I did end up getting injured so listen to your body no matter which approach you take.

Yay, Mike, you are about to catch the rabbit.

I'm stalking a cute guy and trying to pass him.

You two have a bit of an advantage weather wise. I'm in St. Louis and Cleveland and hate running on the treadmill. Won't belong before the elements make it a mental challenge to get out the door.

Well, I FINALLY hit the 500 mile mark. It's not looking too promising to reach 1000 for this year, but I'll keep plugging away

Great work everyone and Mike I am in Buffalo and never run on the treadmill so I am challenging you to a treadmill free winter

Any suggestions for a wind proof shell? The wind in Cleveland (and St. Louis for that matter) just sucks the heat off of ya. I'm all for a treadmill free year. I dislike it enough that I ran in 20 mile hour wind and freezing rain. It wasn't very pleasant.

Just went over 500miles for the year.  No way am I going to make 1000, but I am right now only 30miles behind my total for last year, and I was injured for a couple months at the start of this year.  Progress is good!

I am still here - just been distracted. I should pass my 2012 total by the end of week/month. Then there is an outside chance I could get my personal annual high - although second all time seems more reasonable.

Keep it up all

ARGH! October was brutal for me. This has not been a good fall for me health wise. I am hoping to finish strong, but I am doubting now that I will reach 1000 miles.

Sorry Oct has been so bad for you Felicia.  Hoping you are feeling more balanced soon!

No way I am making 1000 miles, but I hit 900km today with my HM.

So just checking in. Congrats to everyone that has kept working at what you are doing. Big props to those on/over track.

After surgery... I stayed down and piled on pounds. About got back to where I was before I started doing tris. Fat and miserable none the less. So I entered a challenge at Farrel's (kick boxing) My wife has been trying to drag me there for a couple years but there was no point. But she reminded me another challenge was starting and as fat as I was I had a chance at winning. She knows how to push my buttons.

10 weeks, $1000, most improved. I have a good shot. Half way done and 10 pounds lighter. At least my pants fit again. I've never stuck to a diet like this before. And yes, kick boxing is a hoot. I'm back to running, but it isn't my focus. I need 20 miles a week for the rest of the year to hit 500... but I don't see it happening. I'm just running as much as I can being on shift, in a  challenge, working at my other job of my wifes business... and moving our other mom in with us.... ya, let that one sink in for a bit.

But just saying hi.

...oh, as far as the back... that is healed 100%. Nerve pain and numbness... that is a whole other discussion. Oh well.

PM, glad to hear you are back getting active.  Sorry that you are still having pain and numbness though!

It's so good to hear from Felicia, Kirsten, PowerMan, and Mike!!!!! Keep up the good work. Even if we don't make the 1000 miles, we are all trying to be healthy and we all want to hear how everyone is doing. PowerMan, good luck in the competition and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for all of the kind words.

Ok, now I want to cheer for everyone else. I can tell that we are about to have two more1000 mile finishers but I'd like for everyone that is still on this thread to set your own goal. Go to the spreadsheet and look at where you are now. Change your goal to what you think that you can do this next year. It doesn't have to be 1000 miles. It can be 1000K, 750 miles, or 451 miles. It can be round or odd. Just find something that would be doable but a slight stretch and then do for it. Several of you have already said that you are at your own personal bests. Let's all finish with new revised goals. Sound good?
