Okay TAN... today should seriously be sponsored by caffeine.

Who has the coffee IV, and why aren't you sharing???

I agree that I became more aware when riding motorcycles on the street again, and that I became a better driver of a car after getting back to street riding of motorcycles after doing a lot of years of dirt bikes on trails.

There will always be people that you can never change, but I never expected my motorcycle friend to be that much against bicycles on the street.

that is surprising - i would think a motorcycle rider understands how it is to feel vulnerable on the road.

I think that's why it's surprising to me as well.  Both motorcyclists and cyclists have to ride like absolutely everyone is out to kill you when riding on the streets - and it certainly feels like they really are trying to kill you some days.

He understands about motorcycles and how vulnerable you feel at times.  But he thinks that bicycles don't belong because they don't have motors and go to slow and don't ride in a straight line and they aren't easy to see when on the road, etc......    He also didn't understand why I would ride 40 miles on the road for a workout.

Vent time.

I'm stressed.

I'm waiting on the Army to approve a slot of me in my next (full time, out of state) class. I've been rejected/wait-listed three times already. My current application, which was for one of 2 open slots (open as of 2 weeks ago), STILL hasn't gone past state submission, and it looks like i'll be headed to the wait list AGAIN.

Meanwhile, all of life planning is on hold while I wait. My employment is project-based, and only guaranteed through April. Right now, it's looking like I won't be able to get a confirmed seat in a class until June at the absolute earliest. (After trying for November, April, May...)

Everything will work out. It always does. But I'd like it to work itself out JUST a little sooner!

you are reserves, correct?  i have LOTS of mil friends and this is pretty normal - at all levels - so this is just how they work and certainly don't think it's about YOU!  also - if you get another job - they HAVE to let you leave for mil training and hold your position - so take a deep breath!  You are still 5 months away from a POTENTIAL problem and nothing may even happen!

Run a local "Turkey Trot" in the morning and pre-burn calories so you will feel less guilty

We were thinking of doing that... but the Turkey Trot is only 5km and I'm going to need to run a LOT more than that on Thanksgiving for all the food I'm planning on eating.  Besides, the Turkey Trot starts way too early in the day (9am) for when I want to get up on a day off of work.  I figure we'll go running later in the day when it's (hopefully) warmer.. and THEN go gorge ourselves.

Win/Win!

I am still happily enjoying my forced shutdown after B2B (did I mention that I did a 140.6?).  I haven't done one single swim, bike, or run since then.... and while I'm going a little stir crazy and have been somewhat itching to get back to it, I'm forcing myself to not do anything in the hope that when I finally start back up, I won't feel burned out any longer and I'll be ready to do work..

Howdy TANners!

So I'm on the phone this morning talking to a friend of mine in Zurich. Keep in mind for the purpose of this story that besides cheese and chocolate Switzerland is known for precision like efficiency. He's telling me the story of how his daughter was born 2 months ago. They're in the hospital, his wife is in the birthing room, and he's just kind of in and out of the room and wandering around the hospital. No idea why but he wanders a bit too far a bit too close to the moment. The nurse runs out of the room to look for him and comes back with the wrong guy who happened to also be hanging out waiting for his wife to give birth. My friends wife is about 2 minutes away from birthing, in all kinds of stress, looks up and sees a stranger looking between her legs and FREAKS. The guy in the confusion and all the shrieking says hey you're not my wife. The doctor gets super pissed at the nurse and starts yelling at her to get this guy out of the room. Meanwhile my friend happens to be wandering back hears all this commotion and hurries back into the room. His wife in between her screams is blasting him for not being in the room with her. And about 1 miniute later a healthy baby girl enters the world. While he's telling me all this I was struggling to hold back tears from laughing so hard. He however was really pissed off as his wife is still traumatized by the whole thing and blames him for the whole fiasco. My advice was like dude good luck.....

Thats it. Funny story to start the day. Happy Thursday all.

Thanks all for the kind thoughts and crossed fingers. I've been working hard to get back to work. Despite what you hear about an improved economy, it's tough to get a good job lately.
