Melon Presser ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm kinda shyting myself. I'm trying to pack up to leave Bali (and you all know how I am about packing) EXCEPT this is the last time I'll be in Bali before I leave for Japan (out of Jakarta). So I'm sure I'm leaving something important behind/undone/etc. |

Do you wear decent sunnies or glasses when you ride and run? It could be that you are getting a fair bit of grit in your eyes and this is what is causing it. Originally posted by brigby1 Originally posted by jobaxas Originally posted by Muskrat37 Nah you're a freak lol Does anyone else ever get a massive amount of sleepies (aka eye boogers) after a really tough ride and / or run brick? After my long run, long ride, or long brick days my eyes seem to go into overdrive on making eye boogers. My eyes also get very heavy and hard to keep open. I know that I need to take a nap - and sometimes I do. But sometimes I can't sleep, so I will sit and rest in my recliner while watching a little TV for about an hour. The other day this happened, after I had an exceptionally tough ride / run combo. Since I couldn't sleep, I decided to take an ice bath. While sitting there in the cold water - I tried to read, but my vision was so blurry I could hardly read. I had to keep blinking and picking eye boogers. Anyone else every have anything similar happen? Yeah, that's just weird. That's what I thought.... Anyone Else? Someone surely has massive eye booger output that makes their vision blurry after a hard workout. If not - I say you are not working hard enough! I'm weird too. I get camel boogers, upper lip crust, gel/sugar/salt crust in the corners of my lips, crap coming out of my eyes, etc. I do wipe my face a lot when working out and (YUMMMMM) can lick my upper lip and nostrils clean, so that helps, but it's still an impressive accumulation. By the way SKRAT ... a ride OR a run should be tough. Not a combo. If the ride is crazy, then the most should be an easy transition (15-30min) run after, not that I've ever seen you run easy. If the run is crazy, then a short (30-40 min) warmup spin before should be it. |

When it comes to running, slow will = fast. Also, some of the quickest free speed is weight loss--you are much lighter on your feet now and you're seeing the good results in even tired/easy runs being faster! |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by switch Originally posted by amd723 Originally posted by 4agoodlife If you go to slow twitch and do a search for Hokas you will see lots of conversation about them. They have a huge fan base including lots of people who were not able to run any more because of the pounding their bodies had taken over the years made running a no go. You will also, find people who tried them and didn't like them. I've been using them for 8 months and love them. YMMV. Originally posted by switch FWIW, I have Hokas and I really, really don't like them. Really wanted to, but really don't. I advise all to buy from a place you can return them if they don't work. Wasn't there a Hokas thread a few months ago? Even if it's not those, I need something with mucho cushion if I'm going to do this crazy-azz thing. Totally. I think there are a lot of people who really love them. Really glad they are working for you! Re ST: I think there are a lot of people who would eat chit if Dan said it was good for them. Sometimes it's hard to separate the wheat from the chaff with the azz kissers over there.
It seems that more options are coming too. I know Altra already has the Torin which is rather big, but just short of Hokas. They have the Olympus coming soon which will be right there. I forget off-hand the few others coming as well. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by switch Originally posted by Muskrat37 This is very similar to my own experience 'skrat. My "natural" running stride has a bit of a heel strike and is right on 87spm. As I have really worked on shortening it a bit, and trying to hit 90spm, I have found that I can keep many running injuries at bay. I can still get into trouble when doing speed work or hills, so I just try to pay attention to that and not go into the naughty zone.Originally posted by switch FWIW, I have Hokas and I really, really don't like them. Really wanted to, but really don't. I advise all to buy from a place you can return them if they don't work. You guys made me Google Hookas! Oh wait - it's Hokas! Looks like another crazy running fad to me (Vibrams).. Ooops - did I just open that can of worms? I am a believer that 99% of all soreness and pain in the knees, shins, and hips is from poor running form (mainly over striding). Just for clarification - When I say "over striding", I don't mean Heal Striking (Craig Alexander has a slight heal strike) - I mean heal striking with your foot hitting the ground in front of you, causing a jarring / braking impact that really hammers the hell out of your knees and shins, right up into your hips. I used to have lot's of pain in my knees - then I video taped myself running - Holy crap what an over strider I was! As a tall person (6'3") I thought that to run faster, I should reach out further with each step. DOH! What an idiot I was. I started focusing on landing my feet below my hips and being more upright while running. At first it felt like I was going to tip over. Then I noticed that my pains went away (and my times dropped pretty drastically.) This info is only from my personal experience and lot's of research.... It does NOT make me an expert by any means, so take that with a grain of salt. I'm of a sorta similar mindset in that one should look at this as a developmental process over time. The injuries can be prevented more by learning and developing what is natural for the individual. I don't like how shoe places have tended to jump at throwing more support or more cushioning into everything that comes up (at least in my experience). My best development has come when I did the opposite and went much more neutral. Certainly start with something that can be run in, but also look at it as a starting point for development and not necessarily as a solution for all time. Starting points and the development process will still be all over the map, but the view should help one become more in tune with themselves to be able to figure things out more as they gain experience. Some people are going to need more cushioning and/or support. I just don't like how adding more of those seems to be such an automatic response to everything at times. |

Really wanted to, but really don't. I advise all to buy from a place you can return them if they don't work. I agree, they're not going to be for everyone. Running warehouse has them and since they have free shipping and free returns I recommend buying from them if you go the online route. I wouldn't mind trying them - but it's a fairly large sum of money to throw down just to try the newest thing on the block, so I might just go the Running Warehouse route - thanks Hands-Marie! For ME, I wouldn't mind giving them a whirl because after 2 reconstructive knee surgeries, breaking my back twice, having spondololisthesis and sciatica... I'm not so sure that my pain while running (or doing anything, really) is a result of poor mechanics. As many have said, what works for one person won't work for others - but if I can find a way to actually do something pain-free, I'm willing to give it a whirl! |
