BigReub - 2009-09-11 1:25 PM I was driving my daughter to the baby sitter.  Thinking about how absolutely gorgeous the day is.  I was actually planning on heading straight to the course and not working.
Then over the radio comes the news.  Went to work and Dad and I watched the coverage (my dad and I work together) for awhile.

He can remember Pearl Harbor and everything since (born in 1936).  We spent the afternoon cruising town in the Chevelle, listening to radio coverage, and talking history.

It's interesting to hear everyone's perspective.  I've read people's stories, but never gotten firsthand input from people I know and respect.

that's awesome.

fattyfatfat - 2009-09-11 2:00 PM Hey Linda    OHIO STATE SUCKS

LOL!    Good ol' Lendal White.     edit.. HA!  here it is

So if you were on the couch at 0700 last Saturday then I imagine you're probably already there with your USC Jersey on and the kids faces painted up.

The jerseys are clean and ready to go...but the face painting really starts happening more towards the end of the season-'cause we're still going strong .    I have to confess I managed to rearrange date night to tonight (husand not a huge SC fan) so not to miss the game Sat. night

Is SC the only rated team to take on another top 10 this week?  Want to talk about strength of schedule??????????

BTW - anyone see the Steelers game last night?  Man, Troy Polamalu (a SC guy) had one heck of a first half.  Hope he's back soon....not a Steelers fan, but I do follow my SC guys

HA! I love your way of taking a shot a LSU.   You guys are the only two ranked teams playing each other at all this weekend.  Notre Dame and Michigan should be a good game, of has been's.

Strength of schedule?  Yeah lets talk.  What on earth can a PAC-10 team have to say?  I hate Texas just as much as you but....

The Pac 10 never gets credit for strength of schedule.  Look at the top 3 teams....
Florida - plays LSU (11) and GA (21)
Texas -  plays OK (13), Missouri (25), OK St (5) and Kansas (24)
USC - plays Ohio St (8), Cal (10), ND (18)

USC usually doesn't have a probelm with games out of conference.  It's those in-conference games that get them.
Yep, Pac 10 is tougher than they get credit for

On 9/11, I was at work in downtown Portsmouth, VA.  One of my co-workers ran into my office and asked if I heard about them hitting the towers.  I thought he was joking and when I realized he wasn't, I ran down to the nearest tv I could find (in the gym) and realized the horrific events.

A random thing that I also remember from that day was that someone stole my neighbor's Surburban from the front of her house.

That was the beginning of 12+ hour days for over a month.

GO SUZY, GO ROB!!!

Work hard at what you like to do and try to overcome all obstacles

Laugh at your mistakes and praise yourself for learning from them

Pick some flowers and appreciate the beauty of nature

Say hello to strangers and enjoy the people you know

Don't be afraid to show your emotions laughing and crying make you feel better

Love your friends and family with your entire being they are the most important part of your life

Feel the calmness on a quiet sunny day

Find a rainbow and live your world of dreams always remember life is better than it seems

Until ND gets beat this weekend.  And we'll see where Cal stays.  Lookout for Texas A&M in the Big 12... never mind.   The west coast never gets any respect.  ;-)

Thanks for the well wishes for the weekend.  Its going to be a tough one.  I'll be yapping at you some point Satuday night.

I too am at my race site in Lake Geneva.  Found out when I got here they added another timing mat so added another loop on the bike.  Of course that meant I had to drive it since the signage is supposed to be poor.  It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be....only got out of my car once to correct a sign that was pointing in the opposite direction! Not sure if the course is 56m or something more.   I am taking it all with a grain of salt. My only wish is it was 6:15am and I was already mashing my way through the water!  Talk to you tomorrow afternoon!

PS Birdy, thanks for the well wishes. Do you really want me to pick flowers along the way?  I mean it might slow me down a bit, but for you....maybe.

Hi guys and gals! Sorry I've been MIA lately. I've just been busy and a bit burnt out. Working on pulling myself out of it though, as I still have a HIM coming up on 9/26 and there's also that 50k run that I am terribly behind in training for.
I did have an awesome backpacking trip that included 60 miles of hiking with a 32lb pack with a total climb of 10,000 ft. Not exactly s/b/r, but ought to count for some kind of training. I also PR'd an Oly last weekend with a total time of 3:04:20, but I think it was mostly due to the swim being short, because there's no way I swam it as fast as they say.

I'm working on catching up with the pages of posts I'm behind on. I hope everyone is doing great! Good luck to all the racers this weekend! OH, and especially to our amazing first time HIM racers... GO SUZY!!!! GO ROB!!!!

I just had a great workout that I thought I would brag about.  I mean I posted on Thursday morning about how crappy of a workout I had, well this morning made up for it.  Did a 54 mile ride this morning with our group, and we really pushed it, but felt like there was no chain on the bike.  Off the bike I did a 4.5 mile brick and ran faster and easier than I ever remember.  It was a great feeling after being deflated thursday after my "long' run.   I think I really needed this as a confindence booster going into the taper weeks.

Rob and Suzy should be well into their races right now.  Hope they have the wind at their backs

Got my first tubular flat this AM I was only 2.77 miles from home. I am working on setting up my clincher training set. I need to figure out what type of cog the rear wheel will accept. Unfortunately my wife has left me at home with the kids so I can't make any progress until she returns.

I was thinking about suzy and Rob during my morning brick workout.

I think it should be mandatory from now on that any HIM or above, which will include crazy 2 mile ocean swim's, that we race must have athlete tracking!   Rob's race venue looks amazing on the race site.

Great to hear Barry!

I'm a half ironman!

Finished in 6:22 which was slower than I hoped for, but I'll take it.  Will give you more details later, but lets just say the swim went well (no idea on time yet),  I stuck to the bike plan, but the run was awful.  The ladylike version is gastric distress brought on by swallowing a mother load of air when I swim and the 6 10% grade hills that I walked up every time.  Ah well, all in a days work.

Congratulations, Ms. Half Ironman!!!  Sounds like the swim and bike went well, that course sounds BRUTAL!  Could you have picked a hillier (bike and run) half ironman for your first??  I guess you love a challenge .  You sucked it up for the run and finished it.  And that is what counts.  So proud of you!

BOOYAH! Congratulations! That's a tremendous accomplishment. Sooooo awesome!

And I just got back from watching Birdy and Kim do an Olympic. They EASILY took the "family championship", since Birdy got 2nd in his AG (and a new PR too, I think), and Kim got 3rd in hers.

Way to go, all you speedsters!
