Hey gang Hve a look at this. I started a thread on motivation and if you look at page two you will see an amazing story. Also add your own while you're there.

Not sure how to put this in as a link.

You guys can rub it in, in August but right now we are expecting sunny and 65-68 for the next couple of days.  Rode outside for the first time in weeks yesterday and it was BEAUTIFUL!  Get those videos out.

Kind of envy you a bit right now. I could go out and run but it is cool here ( about 28 F) and I don't like the cold so I am back to the treadmill and indoor training. The up side is that we have the Winter Olympics here in Canada this year. Also we can have a nice cool road hockey game and the beer doesn't get warm.

I had a hard time figuring out how to insert a link at first.   Since I see Rob's post up there I figured I'd post this as maybe more of you are in the same boat.

Hopefully this is kinda straight forward.  Please chime in if I missed something.

When creating a post highlight the word or words you want to link.  Then click the Insert/edit link button.  See screen shot below

A new window will open. Copy and paste the page you want to link into it.  Click insert.

i usually try to preview the post and check the link, just in case i'm looking at something i shouldn't be and put the wrong link in.  ;-)

that should do it.  hope this helps.

AWESOME!!  Congratulations.  Better make dinner, open a bottle of wine AND clean up before broaching that subject.

Good Luck!

I never left a bio, and I'm sorry about that, December has been a rough month for me and my family.  I have lost two of my grandfathers within a week of each other.  I loved them both and will miss them greatly.  But as I sat at their funerals I came to the realization that life needs to be lived deliberately and so here I am.  I have looked at this site for a year now reading the articles and look at the training plans and wishing.  Time for the wishing to end, I will complete a tri this year.  I'm 31 years old, married with 3 kids.  My oldest is a 9 year girl who loves soccer and I love being her coach, my 5 year is a boy, and a 2 year girl.  I was active in sports all my life, focusing on football through high school but when high school ended so did the activity.

I have entered a half-marathon in May, and have signed up for swimming lesson starting in Jan. with hopes to do a sprint sometime in June.

Where you from Ben?  I have an almost 9 year old girl, she has watched daddy this year and wants to do a kids tri next year.  Get out there and do it, you would be suprised at where it will lead.  (By the way, if I can do a tri, anyone can.)

I'm from Logan, UT.  It's about 80 miles north of Salt Lake City.  Any advise on which training plan to use for a sprint?

Others will probably chime in here, but I would go with the Micheal Pates 22 week and just sub your running plan in for the running on it...  The reason I say that is from your post you mention swim lessons, this plan seems to start at no swim experience at all and work you up to sprint.

Either that or you could free form a little for the next couple of months and then jump on a 16 week sprint plan.  When I started swimming, I found the workouts on the 0 to 1650 plan worked pretty well in pushing my distance up - however if you have a swim instructor, I would ask them to give specific workouts for the next few weeks to reinforce what you are learning.  Biking is the easy part, so if you have a bike just go ride....  get your backside used to the seat...  if weather prevents you from riding outside and you do not have a trainer to set up inside then spin bikes (for spinning classes, not the generic exercise bikes) can be a good substitute.

I am really sorry to hear about the loss of your granfathers.  Always tough to deal with no matter what the timing.

I too, lurked for a while and put off doing my first triathlon due to my inability to swim.  I applaud you for making the commitment in '10.  The fact you have already signed up for a race AND swimming lessons is huge.  Look for the little wins in your training along the way.  Makes it so much more enjoyable.

Glad to you have on board the SWBKRUN train!

I'm sure a lot of you just watched the Ironman World Championship.  Wow....Just WOW.  Very inspirational.

I really don't believe that an Ironman is in my future but the stories and the highlights are very motivational for me in trainng for the events that I do.

I've been MIA for a few days as my personal life got CRAZY, but I'm back now. And I'm back with a big a$$ promotion! I'm the only 27 year old I know with an Executive Director title. Kinda jazzed, kinda terrified.

Anyway, I have done zero training in the last two weeks as everything was going down. I will get back into it next week for sure! Tomorrow is my daughter's first birthday party and I will be too busy to swim/bike/run.

Can't wait for the virtual tri!! And that list of members looks great - I will post it in my blog ASAP.

Great to see you jumping in and planning that first tri.  I was in your position about a year ago and once you take the plunge and commit yourself to doing one, it really keeps you going and focused.  I wanted to add that the 0 to 1650 plan that Andy linked to worked for me as well. I started using it in May 2008 when I could barely swim 25m. Using the plan, it got me up to swimming a mile non-stop by September. I did not get it done in 6 weeks as the plan dictates due mostly to travel interfering with getting sessions in, but it really helped guide and push me to swimming longer and longer distances non-stop. I also used the 22 week plan to train for my first tri last year. I was more than prepared for that first tri.

I'm kinda with you there.  If I didn't have a job maybe.  It's hard enough to train with the one I do have.  It's hard to do when traveling all the time, but the navy commander really inspired me.  I'll be doing the FL70.3 in May.

On a side note, I finished the book Racing Weight in two days.  Couldn't put it down!  Finally someone has the right approach.

Welcome to BT and the best MG ever Ben!  Any question can and will be answered.  Sorry to hear about your grandfathers.  It's tough to lose one person you care about nevermind two.  Good luck with all of your training.  Just remember - have fun.  That's what it's all about.

Since my wife is out of town and have not had the opportunity to speak with her yet, I'll have to tell you, I just had the most kick swim workout today!  I am trying to really get my technique down and think I made a major breakthrough.  I don't know all of the technical terms of the stroke, but I used to use the "old method" and made a slight change to the first part of my pull and HOLY COW!  What a difference!  I swam 500 wu followed by 2x 1000 and never even got tired!  I could have gone on forever.  Next time, I'm going to count my strokes, I know it's much less than before.  If this continues to work, maybe now I can be a fast swimmer!  I bet it would feel good to be fast at one part of a tri!
