Hey everyone how's training going??

Anyways i was reading about doing a metric ironman(1.5 mile swim, 69.6 mile bike, 16.1 mile run) 4-5 weeks in one day like a race before IMAZ. Are you guys planning to do one of these?

Actually.....I am doing a simulated race this weekend (Sat), with a 3000m pool swim, followed by 2 full IM AZ bike loops (75mi), then 1.5 IM AZ run loops (13mi).  Plans are in place for one (1) more simulated race in mid-October (4K/90mi/18mi) to gear up for the real deal.

How long does it take you to recover from an effort like that?  Are you pacing it at a race pace, or using it more as a way to dial in nutrition?

I'm impressed. Just did 70 on the bike and 9 miles on the run course last weekend out there (on two separate days)... good luck this weekend. It's hot out there!

Just a heads up for anyone who has not bought air tickets yet, I got a screaming deal on Frontier yesterday, not sure how long these prices are good for.

And 5000 yards in the pool this morning, felt really good after another half marathon yesterday for fun.

I had a Century ride that turned into 108 miles yesterday due to being directionally challenged. 8 mile run and 2700 meters in the pool today. Feeling pretty good and getting pretty pumped up from watching IMMOO Live today. I would love to have the conditions in AZ they got to have today. Perfect weather in the Midwest right now.

Woke up Thursday with swollen lymph nodes under the neck.  Went to the doc and according to blood work I was perfectly healthy.  Not sure what was up with that, but missed workouts Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Felt better Sunday and a "cool" front had blown in, so I got out early and got in a 2 hour run.  Went for a short bike ride later in the day to take advantage of the awesome weather.  I really hope it sticks around as I am tired of 100 degree days.

Today officially starts the PEAK training period for me.  I hope I can stay healthy and get in at least all of the key workouts.

Finished up the last prep race unitl Arizona, got a 5:37 at Dealware Diamondman yesterday.  swim was ok, though I wore a full sleeved wetsuit for the first time and midway my deltoids were burning.  I had to slow the pace down just to be safe.....I do understand I should of worn it prior...but anyone know how I can avoid this from happening again, the fit is good.  My deltoids are very sore today.....

The bike was good though I have to adjust my seat angle a bit, its been like a month long project to get it perfect....haha...I did realize I need to take in more calories, I was feeling it on mile 12 of the run a bit....Considering I had to push the HIM 2 weeks from when the training program has it, I felt good on the run, I stayed in my IM pace I hope to keep and finished off strong....This week I also Start the last big build heading to Arizona, its starting to feel a little real now......

According to my plan (and past experience), I had Sunday and Monday scheduled off, kicking right back into training on Tuesday.

This will be my first IM.  I think I could complete the distance right now, but it would not be pretty.  I believe I will be ready to finish the race smiling if I keep to my training plan.

I still have to force myself to get to the pool, but will start hitting the open water more now that we are into September.

I guess I need to hit the pool soon. My last swim was earlier this year at IM CDA. I'd be perfectly happy if they replaced swimming with just about anything else lol. Looks like everyone is getting in some good training though.

This will be my 2nd race at this distance (Chesapeakeman 2011), but will be my first Ironman, so im excited to take it all in.  I dont feel ready at this point but I do feel better prepared at this point than I did last year at this point. I think with 10 weeks of fine tunning and getting in the miles, I hope to be ready to go by race day

This will be my first full distance. I've done 3 halfs including two this summer, I'm hoping to train enough to prove true the "double your HIM time + one hour" formula and get in around 13 hours.

For anyone looking for a hotel room, I just cancelled two rooms at the Courtyard Marriott this morning, I had them booked for relatives that aren't coming now.

My first IM too. Training was going well, but feeling pretty beat up after a HIM (my 3rd) this Sat. that did NOT go well. Time to pick myself up, dust myself off, and get back at it!

This will be my second IM, first IMAZ (I did IMFL in 2010).

I feel like my training is not going as well this time as it did when I trained for Florida.  I've been sick a couple of times this time and the pool was closed for almost two weeks.  Things that didn't happen the first time around.  If I can get through my peak phase and complete at least 95% of the workouts, I think I'll feel good heading into the race.

Just did my HIM tune up race yesterday.  Major issues on the run, confidence shaken.  If you have a minute, check out my RR and let me know what your thoughts are:

It sounds like you bonked due to lack of food. Did you have a big breakfast? Did you have ANY solid food on the bike? My suggestion would be to take some Uncrustables or a couple candy bars on your next long bike and see how you feel. I find any races longer than four hours, which is to say a HIM or longer, require solid food. And a big breakfast. I usually eat a couple of bagels, either plain or with PB or cream cheese if I have it. And take something to snack on during the bike, plus the gels and the endurolytes and infinit.

I'm no expert and I could definitely be wrong, but it seems to me like you were OVER hydrated, hence the lots of peeing and the sloshing in the stomach.

I agree that it was likely a nutrition/hydration issue.  Not nearly enough calories prerace and I think you drank too much fluid.  Read about hyponatremia.  You were displaying some of the classic signs.  It manifests when someone sweats a lot and replaces that fluid with not enough sodium.

I changed my plan again.  Trouble getting the body back into it after a rough year.  I'm now on the "finish under 17 hours with out serious enjury" plan...

AKA, the last 10 weeks of the Fitzgerald level 1-3 plans...  Should be a smooth transition with a bit more rest in it.
