Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Muskrat37 - 2013-01-02 7:25 PM The standard Manatee reply is to DOOOO EEETTTT , but that seems nuts to me. Could you do it? Possibly, depends on how you come through the first one and your recovery rate; but should you do it? I guess that depends on what you want out of the race. Just to finish, just for the experience or to compete? Also, I'm on my new don't get injured kick and I think 2 IMs a month a part would injure me, so I think that is something you need to really consider.Full disclosure, I've never done an IM . I've done a couple of HIMs and a handful of marathons and can't imagine doing them a month a part, at least without a lot of suffering.OK Manatees - so my race plan this year WAS to compete in the HITS Full on 5/18 and do a 2nd full on 8/25. The 5/18 just got cancelled as one of my best friends is getting married that day. I'm kind of sad, because I really wanted to try for 2 fulls this year. Now my question is - can I do 2 fulls, 1 month apart, or is that just fricking nuts? I can do my Expedition Man on 8/25 - and then there is the Grand Columbian on 9/21...I would probably literally rest for 7-10 days..then do an easy 2 weeks - then do the Grand Columbian. I think that while typing this, I just realized how nuts that is...I just need your level headedness to talk me out of it! Will anyone talk me off the ledge, or will you guys encourage me to go over it? |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! ponderingfox - 2013-01-03 9:56 AM Ran a New Year's 5k in Seattle yesterday. It was on the waterfront at the crack of dawn. Clear skies (in Seattle, *gasp*) and barely any wind. Twas a good time. Even if it was something like 35 degrees outside. I got recruited to lead an 8 min pace group, though I lost everyone except my bro after mile 2ish. I've got to say, an 8 min pace feels pretty easy. I'm looking forward to cranking out some faster times later this year. I'm actually pretty proud that I kept an average of almost exactly 8 minutes. Didn't expect to be close, but averaged 7:57. CONGRATULATIONS!!! You need to go run with Salty. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Just got my rear end whooped. The closest I've come to puking thus far. Our workout was "a reintroduction to speed." 8 x 400, 85 seconds a piece, fast recovery quarter in between. This girl is not built for that type of speed! Wheeeeeew! |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatees Mentor Group - VERY CLOSED!!! Sorry! Got my first run of 2013 in today. I was very happy and enjoyed it, even if my achilles and my lungs didn't love it. Achilles a little sore at the start, not painful, just letting me know it was enjoying all the rest. Air was really cold, had a couple coughing fits, but I am feeling way better. Salty, you ran 1600km (1000miles) more than I biked last year. Sick. Sounds like you are learning a lot about what your body can handle with your Boston training, keep it up! |

I do need a bike pacer in my life soif you're ever in the Seattle areaSo what are some good places to run/bike in Seattle? I am planning on making a stop in Seattle to visit some friends in late May/early August. I am driving from Fairbanks, AK to TN. I am planning stops in Seattle, WA, then maybe over to Yellowstone, down to Las Vegas then on to TN. Past Vegas I am open to stops. I am hoping once I know my dates more to be able to hit a race or two as I drive and more so to visit some of the locals favorite places to train. |

Early August is going to be your best bet for the best weather both here and in Yellowstone. If you have never been to Yellowstone, I highly recommend it. I live in Gig Harbor - about 45 mins south of Seattle. Let me know when you are in Seattle and we will meetup for a ride. I can come up there, or if you are game for driving down here, I have a couple of great routes we can ride (28 miles or almost 60 miles). Back country roads, little traffic, fun hills...great views along the water...really awesome rides and Gig Harbor is a cool little town - cool places to grab a bit and a beer after a long ride.
