tahrens - 2009-09-22 10:28 AM Oh, there is one thing I forgot to mention in my race report.   I learned how to blow snot rockets on the bike course!!   The cold air and water made my already filled sinuses run like crazy and I couldn't keep swalling all that crap.  So I checked that no one was close behind me, turned my head, closed one nostril, and voila!   I was so proud that I kept doing it all through the bike.  I am truly Savage now!!  GGggggggrrrrrrrrr

You just learned that NOW?????
The minute I took up running outside in the winter that training began in earnest.  Welcome to the club.

I've never learned how to spit properly so I never tried with the nose.  I was sure it would end up all over my face, just like when I spit.  But only once did it land on my thigh and that was because of the wind.

So if we are keeping tally, bush broke - check,  snot rockets - check, spitting - working on it.  If I nail that little trick, and learn how to fart on command,  do I get a man card?

HAHAHA

Holy crap, I didn't realize it was coming up that quickly.

LOL, Tracy, I almost quoted your last post re: learning to blow snot rockets and I was going to say that I just can't do snot rockets but I am a great spitter!  So, I just suck the snot down into my mouth and spit!  YUCK, just typing that sounds soooo wrong!  But at least it doesn't wind up on my shoulder!

All of this football talk is making me happy about my team beating Tony's Seahawks this past weekend!  Go Niners and Go Cal bears (sorry Linda).

Kim you rock!

Jack's new sneakers arrived from Zappo's today.  He puts them on and says Dad I can run in these, I can ride my bike in these, but I can't swim in them.  That's the first time he's put all three together.  Pretty cool.

You're probably more manly than most men out there already. (As far as the snot spit and fart regime goes)I did manage not to get any snot on me during my race. I think I have snot rockets down to a science. Now having said that wait until the next time I go out and try it. I'll probably come back looking like a glazed donut.

Havin' Fun? Who's that?   Busy mom and racing to boot, pretty awesome.

Doug--now I know why you cannot spend as much time on the boards...training, crafting, family and volunteering.  I'm pooped just thinking about it.

I have a tri this weekend!  Stonebridge - 750 OWS, 12mi bike, 5k...  did the swim/run as the aquathon last week.  Looking for a goal time of 1:30 or less...  18' swim, 4' T1, 35' bike, 2' T2, 31 run.  From looking at the course, the transitions look long.

Also trying to decide on wetsuit if it is legal...  I haven't practiced in one and I think the time savings on the course might be completed negated by the time involved in getting the suit off.  On the other hand, a race in the suit would be good because my olympic two weeks later will be wetsuit legal and I will wear one then...

Help me MG - what am I missing from this decision?

I'm doing the Duke HIM  : )

Signed up to race it, goal was sub 6 and to blow away my bike split from last year.
However, that has changed to a training day of working on transitions and nailing down nutrition.
I say the hardest part of the "race" will be "not racing" ... this will be a test in patience.
But, it is all part of the master plan for FL.

If you haven't practiced in one probably not a good idea to race in one.  Is this one you own, or are you renting?

It's not just the time to take the suit off but if you arne't used to the suit it can make your swim stroke more difficult and either tire you out or make your time slower.

If you had practiced in it, it would definitely make you faster.

Get your wetsuit and go practice in the pool if you don't have OWS access.  It can vary from person to person but I am so much faster w/ a wetsuit.  And if you start taking your suit off as you run all you have to do is whip it over the feet.

How much faster am I - pretty scary.
This year -
w/o wetsuit: 300m pool swim 2:45 100s; 1000m lake swim 2:50 100s
w/ wetsuit: 2000m lake swim in freezing water 2:26 100s; 750m bay swim 2:18 100s

I LOVE MY WETSUIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in this weekend - IM Augusta 70.3.  I'm feeling pretty good, but getting nervous.  My goal is sub 6.  After thinking about it, it may have been a pretty lofty goal for someone who has not even been on a road bike for a year yet, but oh well.  I signed up a year ago, been training for six months, all for six hours of one day.  Seems kind of crazy.  I have about 10-15 family members coming to cheer me on.  Some coming from as far away as Massachusetts!  It should be a blast.

I got a little mental (and hopefully a physical) boost yesterday.  A friend let me borrow his Flashpoint FP80's for this weekend.  I'm going to try them out today.  Hopefully it's not too windy.  Thanks for everyone's support!

Andy. Drop Aaron a pm to see if that transition clinic on Saturday is going to have a swim.  If so head there and try it out.  If you feel good wear it. If not then don't.  I had one ows before the 1/4 at lone star and that was the day before for ~500yds. You'll be fine.  And I'd count on it being legal...78 degrees on Sunday w/ this cold front blowing through..yep.  T1 looks like the hardest part of the race.

Yeah, I'm racing this weekend.  My last race was at the beginning of August, Sunday I'm running my 3rd half mary.  I had hoped to run it close to 1h30m, but after my last few long runs I'm not sure that's a feasible goal.  So I hope to be under 1h40m, the farther under that, the better.  My speedwork has proven to me that short of feeling fantastic Sunday morning, I'll be running slower than I originally hoped.

Best wishes to EVERYONE else racing, volunteering or training this weekend - you all know I love you

Be smart and go fast!
