Hey Peeps.....

Looks like I missed a lot traveling for two days....

Sam/Tony: Love the video....think maybe the little guy could use some MORE transition tips.  He took about as long as me!

Dino: really sorry about the pooch.  We went through that several years ago and I'm still missing Newt.  Must be eve harder with kids.

Linda:  I just assumed your husband did tris like you.....did he swim sans wetsuit?  Quite the stud!

Trevor:  Seems like you are on yet another Canadian vacation....you people know how to live!

Off to my oh-dark-thirty OWS before another full day of meetings. Make it a great day.

ha yeah we got the results yesterday he lost about 3-4 places in transition alone.  It's tough when you can't tie your own shoes....

I think for his next one I'll take an old pair of lock laces and put them in his shoes.

http://triduo.exposuremanager.com/p/swim_finish_rex_wellness_triathlon_2010/1836-1419-2724-sm1_30_25_7

Yesterday he spent hours at work searching for his next tri.
Today he called me mid-day asking me all kinds of swim questions...seems he spent a lot of time at the pool today.

I'm thinking the bug has bit Smile

No racing for me maybe until November.

2 goals crossed off my list, 1. Olympic swim sub 30 minutes, 2. finish mass start bike race.

Hopefully also pick up that sub 20 minute 5k at the local turkey trot this year also, though 6:27's seems awfully fast to me, should be interesting.

At the beginning of 2010, I set both quantiative and qualitative goals.....

Nailed all the qualitative ones already.

Trust the plan and its author
Keep the body healthy
Embrace OW, Stand my ground

But am still working through the list on quantitative.

Finish IM WI. Sign up again.
 HIM PR  14 min PR!
Phillips Sprint CR 4 min CR!
Half Marathon PR

Honestly, the 1/2 marathon PR seems a little remote, but pretty darn sure I can nail my #1 goal for the season in 2 weeks or so.  I know for sure signing up again will be easy!!!!

No racing for me.  Still looking for my "Mojo" that I seem to have lost so far this week.  Need to get back on that horse if I plan on doing the Oly I have penciled in for 9/11/10.  If anybody has seen my motivation, please return to owner ASAP!

Thing that I accomplished so far this season:
1.  Run break-through with a 8:00 min/mile 10K during an Oly.  Only going to get faster from here!  (Got me within a couple of seconds of my personal goal of being under 2:30)
2.  Much better understanding of my taper needs or lack of taper needs.  I have found I perform better with less of a taper?

I still have 2 races penciled in for the rest of the year, not registered for either yet.  An Oly on 9/11/10 and Pool sprint on 9/26/10.  Then it turns to run focus with some local fall running races (5K, 8K, 10K, etc.) and developing a maintenance plan for winter.

Good luck to all the racers, especially our Ironman......        Represent!
Dino

Linda,  we'll have to coordinate some open water swimming/kayaking outings.  Hopefully having the boat will help me keep up with you in the water Wink  Glad to hear the hubby is hooked.  And you thought the sport was expensive with just YOU racing?  HA!    Hope all goes well with your dad.  I took my mother through all her treatments and I am happy to say 11 years later she is cancer free.  All my prayers for the same outcome for you and your family.

Dino - so sorry about your loss.  18 years is truly a blessing.  I know how you feel.  It's awful.

Go Chris Go!! Look out IMKY!!  I'll be interested to see how it goes. I've got my eye on that location............

John,  you don't get out of Augusta that easy.  Nice try. Now go crash a bike or something. You'll feel much better.

i love chickenshit littlefucks that blow through stop signs while i'm in the crosswalk then don't stop when i ever so nicely ask them politely in a very kind voice to stop.

i love it even more when they tell me to fuckoff.

i love it when they think they can speed off in their fancy little car yet when they get around the corner there is a traffic jam at a stop sign.

i love it when they realize the situation they are in just got a lot worse when they see that i have turned around and are now heading there way.

but what i reall really really love is to see littlepricks like this blast around traffic into the oncoming lane and high tale it out of there.

i guess he must not have wanted to talk to me.

:-)

edit.  i know i know... i should have just let it go.  i usually do, just this guy told me to F off even after i stopped for him.  and linda, he had a university of texas plate frame.  that means it was ok, right.

grrrrrrrrrr.

Ride today - didn't get out until 11:30, had a dr. appt.  Dr. appt involved putting on a holter moniter to watch my heart for 24 hours.  They told me to do a normal day, up the intensity a bit, to try to recreate the occasional arrhythmia.

Went for my regular Weds ride .....31 miles, about 1500 feet of climbing.  Usually takes 1:45-1:50, faster if I can draft off Jeff.  Well, we're in a bit of a heat wave, and i'm NOT used to it.  It was 97 when I left.  Did great for the first 13 miles - actually had a PR to that point, and didn't feel like I was really working.  Monitor was annoying, but no big deal.  It WAS hot, so I stopped at a fruit stand and filled my water bottles (emergency $$ - yeah!) - and then hit the wide open, head wind, baking hot blacktop, and died.  Felt like I was moving backward.  Turned on the big climb, made it .7 miles, lost the chain at the bottom of the hill.  Twice.  Guys from a local club flying down the hill the other way - every one asking if I was okay.  Embarassing.  Made it to the top - and started puking. 5 times I had to stop - and bless the local cycling community - so did others.  Humiliating.  By 3d stop, I'm trying to get cell coverage to get a ride.  Sag wagon for the other club stopped and gave me water - said it was 112 on the road.  finally get hold of Jeff, and he comes to rescue.  27 miles, 1:50 of riding time, 25 minutes of puking and humiliation.

Should be interesting to see what the monitor shows.  Undecided

Last race on the schedule, may do one more in September, but nothing set yet.  I am headed to Chicago on Friday, hoping this can be my peak race of the season.  Without knowing the exact details, I think this race will be tailored well for my strengths.

I am going to attempt a new strategy on the swim and make sure I do not go out too fast, so I can get faster and finish really strong.  I have heard mixed things about how it is timed from the swim to Transition, but I will be hoping for something in the low 1:30 range.

The bike looks pancake flat after the first little section.  Goal is 225-230 watts which will hopefully get me a 23 MPH split.

Run, well everyone has heard me say I want a 20 minute 5k, so with no races planned, its going to be a suffer fest on the run.

I want to hit 1:13 overall, 1:12 would be going above and beyond expectations.

ha.  welcome to my world.  looking at yesterday's weather you guys even had some humidity.  that's the killer, to me anyways.  you just can't keep your temp down.

you migh not want to be setting pr's in that weather.  ;-)  especially on the front end of a ride (or run).  i'm telling you,  the first miles of a workout in those conditions is all mental.  slow it down.  and as hard as this is to do, don't get frustrated when you see your hr in z3/4 but your moving along at a z1 pace.   and really, i use a hrm more to as an alarm clock if you will rathere than as a training tool in the heat.  rpe is pretty much what i go by.

slow it down, cocentrate more on pacing than you normally might, monitor fluid intake a bit more and reapply sunscreen.
