Yep, I have the 120 mile ride Saturday, my second for this build, and a 22 mile run on Sunday.

...sigh...  Warning: whiny post ahead.

Last weekend I was feeling under the weather so I took some time off to recoup and get healthy.  And now 1 day before another big training weekend I'm in bed with a fever of 102 and body aches that have me reduced to tears.  It's no doubt the flu.

Last month I got married and had lower volume to enjoy the time with my friends, family, and
new hubby.  So I was really banking on this month to get the volume back up.  I have done a bunch of rides in the 60-75 mile range, and one century a couple weeks ago.  Longest run is 14 miles.  Run is my weakest of the three by far.

My goal is just to finish, but preferably closer to 15hr than 17hr.  My question to all of you is how do I modify my plan over the next few weeks?  Or do I not modify it at all and just pick up where I left off once I'm back on my feet?

I would say you need to try to build at least your fitness before getting sick. Don't rush to it or you'll risk injury, I know "don't rush" sounds crazy with only 36 days to go, but seventeen hours sounds a lot better than a DNF, after all, you'll be an Iron(wo)man, huh? You know what they call the guy with the lowest score in Medical School? They call him Doctor...

Don't forget to taper anyway, OK?

Regards,

Ernest

The flu has been spreading around my work like wildfire!

I wasn't originally going to get a flu shot... but now I'm considering it.

A training parter of mine suggested that if I was to get a flu shot, wait till the beginning of taper, just in case I get a bad reaction.

First time I've ever gotten a flu shot... part of me wants to try and get the flu now, so that I'll be good to go come Nov. 22. Everyone seems to be getting the flu and several have the H1N1 - yikes!

First time Century mark today for me!

Great job Fitzy, but dont go get the flu this late in the game.

I almost offed myself today with badazz brick in my basement due to inclement weather. That would make it really hard to be an Ironman haha

I feel you're pain. Hopefully you can jump back into your plan without any issues. I had swine flu ( I think) which has turned into bronchitis. Now 1 week without training and I'm about to go nuts. I suppose the good news is that MOST of the hard work has been done already, but the next few weeks are big. Good luck with recovery!

Pouring rain and 38 degrees here and I need to ride 70 today.  Think I need to go buy a new trainer, suck it up and ride indoors.

Well, done for this weekend. 112.8 mile ride on Saturday. I rode most of the IM course the first 40 miles and can report very nice surface conditions especially on McClintock, which has been resurfaced and used to be terrible. McDowell had been done last year and the back half of the BeeLine last month. So now the worst sections are Hayden between McClintock and Rio Salado, and that's never been to bad. Ran 22 miles this morning and felt good.

Nice job Bryan!

I was also out on the IMAZ course today. Did 97 miles of it and really like it! It is nicely paved and I like the uphill on the way out. We even had some of the famous IMAZ wind later in the ride! The run after around the lake was hot! Glad it wont be like that for IMAZ

Thank God I live in AZ... I'd never be able to handle 5hrs on a trainer and another 2 on the dreadmill... that's just inhumane

I got caught in a little bit of hail on Saturday while riding. I can handle cold. I can handle windy. And I can handle wet. Put all three together and I'm beyond miserable. My teeth were chattering so badly I turned in early and finished up on the trainer later that night. It took me more than 2 hours to warm back up. Brr!

Nice job this weekend everyone!  My good news is that my fever is finally gone, even without drugs, so hopefully I'll be able to get back to it soon.  I have a doc appt today...hoping to get something to help with the lung/bronchial issues that seem to have developed.

Instead of dwelling on lost training time, I've adjusted my attitude and am now just happy to be able to show up to the starting line.  Finishing will be that much sweeter.

I've been fighting a cold since the Portland Marathon. I didn't bring anything to the start/finish line to wear after finishing and then waited at the finish line for an hour for my wife to finish. I was shivering and have not felt good since. It was a perfect temp for the race but not for sitting around afterwards. Anyway, I hope you feel better, I rode 5 hours yesterday and felt like I had no energy. We still have plenty of time to get it back.

I am happy happy happy to be done with my longest week of the whole build - wrapped it up with an 18.5 mile run yesterday while my houseguest was running the Nike Women's Marathon in San Fran. It feels like forever since a rest week so I will thoroughly enjoy this one Peak week after that and then taper time!!!
