I thought you might need a chuckle.. The picture didn't come through But I think you can picture it if you read the story.
Why parents should always check their children's homework before they hand it in))

A first grade girl handed in the following drawing below for a homework assignment. The assisngment was graded and brought home and the child showed it to their mother.

After it was graded and the child brought it home, she returned to school the next day with the following note:

Dear Ms. Davis,
I want to be very clear on my child's illustration. It is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint.
I work at Home Depot and had commented to my daughter how much money we made in the recent snowstorm.
This photo is of me selling a shovel.

Redknight - 2009-01-22 5:40 AM  I am off to the gyn to see if I can workout a lower abdominal muscle tightness.

In the states GYN is short for gynegologist...  I HOPE THAT GOES WELL FOR YOU !!!!
It stands for the same here and I am so happy that it is just my fingers that don't work properly. Besides where do you go to pick up women
Anyway at the gyM I did get my workout in. I think I am finally starting to get my hydration and nutrition worked out. Had a good workout and wasn't particularly tired when I finished. Now I'll wait and see how I am doing in a few hours. Need to go and get some food in me now. TTFN.

Mornin, hopefully my day gets better.  Picked my 2 year old up out of bed, diaper leaked, had to change my suit that I was wearing...

Looking for my keys for about 20 mins cursing myself for not putting them in my normal spot.  My 5 year old asks me what I am doing and I tell him, he responds, Gabriella (my 2yo) had them yesterday and was playing with them.  25 minutes later we finally find them in a closet...

Hope you didn't get a hernia if lifting your 2 yr old caused you to soil yourself.  How much does that kid weigh anyway?  Oh, wait, was it the kid's diaper that leaked

Remeber some of those diapers hold up to 40 lbs. Imagine trying to lift that with one arm and the baby in the other.

Thanks guys!  I know it's a mental thing for me in the pool.  When I'm upstairs on the stationary bike or the TM, I'm totally in my own world - I don't pay any attention to the people around me or what they're doing.  For some reason it's different in the pool.  I think a big part of it is that I'm still very new at swimming - I went through something similar when I started running 'cause I was so slow and couldn't go very far.  It's the same with the swimming now - I stop to catch my breath every 25 meters while everyone else goes back and forth like it's nothing.  I know once I get used to being there and my training/endurance improves, it won't be an issue.  It's just a mental stumbling block I need to get through.

Okay I am officially stupid.  I was about to say, "I don't see any glasses (thinking drinking glasses) but there are a cool pair of pink glasses there now (sunglasses).  Can I go home now? I'm obviously not capable of doing anything productive today!

Run Tracy run. But don't trip over your own feet on the way out. If anyone complains about you taking the rest of the day off just sen them to see me.

Janet. I was having some difficulty bilateral breathing at first but just forced myself to do it no matter how uncomfortable. I don't even really think about it now. You will be surprised at how quickly it will come to you.

Rob, I've seen a similar email about a drawing of a pair of scissors. I hope no one is offendedEmbarassed

OF COURSE THEY'RE SCISSORS

QUOTE FROM THE MOM: THIS IS MY KINDERGARTNER'S ARTISTIC  RENDERING OF A PAIR OF SCISSORS. I WONDER WHAT HIS TEACHER THOUGHT. I ALLOWED MYSELF JUST A SMALL SMIRK WHEN I SAW  IT. I WAITED UNTIL HE WAS OUT OF THE ROOM UNTIL I STARTED CRYING FROM LAUGHING SO HARD. WELL, OF COURSE THEY'RE SCISSORS.

On this whole bilateral breathing thing....  Here is an interesting dispute...  It seems that when I train bilateral breathing is easy, smooth, and very rythmic!  Come race day---- Crowds, mass start, adrenaline.... I just survive... During Ironman I try to definitely find me own water, feet, rythm, but it is tough.... Racing, and training swims are so so different!

Steve do you ever do the manual Ergo mode on your CT?

Did it last night, not sure what I was supposed to be doing.  Probably not avg'ing almost 28mph for 10 miles but that's what I ended up doing, only avg'd 188 watts for that time.

I completely understand what you are saying, I was in the same position a year ago. I tried to go to the pool when very few people would be there or would cut my work out short if someone wanted to share a lane.  I have been taking lessons and practicing a lot more and little by little, I have gotten better.  I am nearly always the slowest person in the pool, but I no longer care what others think.  Now it is all about getting good enough to go the distance.  Hang tough!

Going to attempt flip turns at the pool tomorrow morning. There. I wrote it. Now I really have to try to do it. Will let you all know how much water I drink. I've been wanting to try them for awhile now.

me too, just haven't taken the time to figure it out.  I suppose I could get my coach to teach me but I would rather spend the hour having her yelling at me about my stroke.

Kim, remember your tag line. Don't forget to breathe. Make sure you have a good lungful of air before doing the flip turn.
Now it's off to the pool for me.
Everyone have a great weekend.

Best of luck to you with this.  Everytime I try flip turns I get way too much water up my nose!!!!  Or I flip too soon and there is no wall to push off of. Finally I gave up.  Wish you much better success!

I think the hardest thing to get used to is when to actually start your flip turn.  I personally think they are a little overrated, but I guess if I was doing a tri that had a pool swim... I were revert back to flip turns...

I think because I always seem to be sharing a lane with someone is another reason I don't do flip turns...

SIDE NOTE:  JEREMY.... ARE YOU A DAD AGAIN!?!? We haven't heard from you!!! Hope all is well?!

Anyone have exciting plans for the weekend?

Taking my mtn bike out tomorrow to see what needs to be tuned up for my race next week.

Anyone done a mtn bike race before?  I assume there is nothing special, probably more laid back than running or tri's.

Gonna fix my flat tire. How exciting is that. Actually this is the first one I have to change. I was really lucky last year.

Did my swim this morning and I either turned into a superman over night or miscounted my laps. The time was 38 minutes and the best I have ever done before was 44 minutes for my distance. I choose to believe I am superman. At least until the next swim

Question for you - I'm experiencing a little bit of spring fever here (not sure why since the temps are supposed to bottom out again tonight and this weekendFrown), but it's got me looking at a spring racing schedule.  Along with some 5k fun runs I have a half marathon planned for April and was originally planning to do my first sprint tri in August - it's a local one that I've been wanting to do for a couple of years.  In looking through races for this spring I've found a sprint tri at the beginning of May that I'm interested in.  The distances are similar to the one in August (swim is a little longer but bike is a little shorter) and it's only about an hour's drive from where I live.  I've been concentrating more on my running because of the half marathon so I would probably need to re-work my training schedule a little to include more biking and swimming if I decide to do the tri in May.

So the question is - if I do this tri in May just for fun, not racing it but more just to give me an idea of what it's like, is it doable?  My main concern is that the half marathon I'm doing is only 2 weeks before, but since the tri is only a sprint distance, it really shouldn't be an issue, right?

Any thoughts?

Janet

OMG, so I tried the flip turn the first time and got through the somersault but forgot to twist and came out sort of on my back and then started running out of air, sooooo...swallowed some not so yummy chlorinated agua...hmmm, went back to my regular open turns and decided I would work on making myself streamlined during my push off, which was more fun than drinking the pool water. The monitor at my pool said to just keep trying because it will come more naturally with practice, but then someone got into my lane to share, and I figured it was not worth the stress. But maybe I'll try again when there's NO one around

Had a good swim anyway, and then a nice walk in the rain with the pooch. Have a good day everyone.

Janet, it is definitely doable, especially if you are just going to put in the distance and not try for a best time. If you are training for the tri now with getting ready for your 1/2 Mary then 2 weeks should be enough time to recover.
As my sister says "Go ahead and jump. The net will appear".
yOu will be surprised at how quickly your body will recover from the run.

I agree that you'll be fine.  A sprint distance shouldn't be too taxing on your body. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if you find it fast and easier than your 1/2 mary.  As long as you are currently training with swimming and biking I think you'll have a blast. Besides, August is a long way away for your fist tri!  The whole race season will be over. Get out there and have some fun, you'll do great!

Hi all,

First of all, love the drawings!  Everyone had to come look at my computer to see what I was laughing so hard at!

Janet - definitely doable.  Just don't worry and have fun.  My first tri was in June of last year (a sprint) and I was more than prepared after training for a few months!  Let us know when you register!!

So, I have been trying to plan some races for this season.  So far, I have:

Triathlon Boot Camp in March, 10k in April (my first), Sprint Tri in June (It was my first last year), Oly Tri in July (my first), and maybe a Half Lite in October (Don't know about this yet - I'll have to see how the summer goes!)

Have a good weekend everyone!  Train hard!

Karen

Oh yeah,  when I am at work I pretty much always have gearattack.com running in the background.  I can watch Bonktown, plus some other cool sites too!

flip turn, what works for me is to take a breath and then blow it out after I do the
summersault as I am pushing away from the wall. breathing is part of the turn.

see if this works
