I'm quite happy with April. I'm finally finding some consistancy having started the IronFit program in week two of April. My run mileage has taken a significant jump and bodes well for making it to IMFL. -- My theory is that 26 hours of skiing is good for something. Next week is recovery week on my program and I need it. Soon the swim yardage will climb, but I'm really not worried about it. Being an old guy, my biggest worry is ramping up too quickly and finding the injury wagon. That said though, running barefoot has eliminated my achilies problems. I'm still significantly slower than I was before. (not slower than the last 6 miles of IMFL '08 though ) |

Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread After an interesting start to the new year my training is starting to come together. Yesterday was the first "full" triathlon race of the season. Lonestar ended up being a duathlon due to weather. I'm feeling good about training and the upcoming race schedule. |

New user 11 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Ran Pittsburgh marathon today; Ironman training starts tomorrow. This will be my first Ironman. Please can someone describe the transition situation, specifically: 1. I believe that there are changing tents for each gender. Do the nudity rules apply in the tents, or should I assume that I need some... cover? 2. Are there runners for your bike/clothes/gear? Does that mean that you are dependent on someone finding your stuff quickly and getting it to you? 3. Special need bags - how do they get back to you? Similar to the bottle exchange? Grab and go? If there is a resource somewhere out there that goes into all of this, please just point me there. I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for in my (albeit limited) search. One final question - how do people tend to view this thread (Flat/Threaded/Nested)? Thanks for any pointers and I am looking forward to training, and to being more active on this board. Sincerely, John |

I don't knoe anyone who is happy with that choice and try changin into tight tri clothes after you get out of the shower and see how fun it is 2- At IMFL your gear is in bags on the ground in numerical order by your race#. Swim -bike is most chaotic. They will try get you your bag but a lot of people find their own. Bike-run is WAY less chaotic and its WAY less of an issue. They have runners for you bike who will unrack and rack it for you. 3-on the bike they have aide stations every 12 miles. Bottle exchanges are easy peasy. You can get your SN bags back the day after the race if you want to. I found mine last year without difficulty but I would not put anything you can't live without in there THere should be a race guide on the IMFL web site. I have no idea how I am viewing this other than turning on my computer |

I found mine last year without difficulty but I would not put anything you can't live without in there THere should be a race guide on the IMFL web site. I have no idea how I am viewing this other than turning on my computer I'll just piggyback and say that if you come out with the main swim pack you may have to get your bike yourself. When I did IMAZ the volunteer only beat me to my bike by 5 feet. I was pretty much all the way at my rack because there were SO many people coming out of the water they could not keep up. So, in general, the volunteers TRY to help you but if you go in assuming you'll have to find it yourself then everything else is a bonus! As for SN, yes...it works a bit like a bottle exchange when they actually hand it to you. The bags will be along the side of the road manned by volunteers...generally you stop near your number and a volunteer should help you get your SN bag. Getting them back the next day is just like Sue said. Generally speaking most folks try not to put much in them that they wouldn't mind losing...because SN especially can get really sketchy. The bags end up piled in big bins, have to travel, etc. |

Please can someone describe the transition situation, specifically: 1. I believe that there are changing tents for each gender. Do the nudity rules apply in the tents, or should I assume that I need some... cover? This depends on how modest you are. I could have changed in the mens tent and it wouldn't have mattered to me. Plus you waste time trying to be modest. lol. 2. Are there runners for your bike/clothes/gear? Does that mean that you are dependent on someone finding your stuff quickly and getting it to you? It the IM. Don't depend on anyone but yourself. That said the volunteers are wonderful and will do any and everything that you need. If they can 3. Special need bags - how do they get back to you? Similar to the bottle exchange? Grab and go? We got off of the bikes and grabbed our special needs bags. Like Socks said don't count on it coming back. The day after the race you can dig through the numbered boxes and retrieve your special needs bags. If there is a resource somewhere out there that goes into all of this, please just point me there. Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Great insight already I'm a slow swimmer so I have lots of help in change tent and my bike is always handed to me. Like others say if you are a 1:10-1:25 swimmer things will be chaotic in T1 and change tent just due to the number of athletes that come through. I worked in the women's change tent last year and saw more naked women that day than ever...no modestly for the most part. Good idea of T1 and T2 bags is use ziplock bags...one with all the stuff you know you will need and maybe another with stuff you might need so when it's dumped out it doesn't make a huge mess. Small towel is nice in T1 bag as you might be wet, salty and sand from swim and run to T1. Last year change tent was actually inside a building..everyone had to go there even if they just ran through it. Women were on one side and men on other. Folks who have worked change tent for years said it worked really well plus it wasn't has hot and muggy and dark compared to a real tent. Bring suntan lotion as they often run out for both T1 and T2 bags Volunteers are great and will help you as much as they can. If you need something ask them and they will do their best to help you out. |

New user 11 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Hi everyone, Thanks for the info. With the volunteers, I was more concerned about either having to wait around for someone to retrieve the bike or getting in trouble for trying to retrieve it myself. For the SN bag, I really don't care about getting it back, just didn't know how easy it was to get it during race day. A lot of these concerns stem from the Disney Marathon this year. I did the bag drop and it took about 20 mins to get my bag at the end of the race. Some people had been waiting even longer. I am used to the half-Iron and shorter where you are basically self-sufficient and you know where your gear is. John |

I agree....after doing LP and Canada I'm looking forward to a flat bike course and predictable weather. If it rains 4 inches or is 95 like my last two Ironman races, I won't be happy. A guy I've known for long time who used to work at bike shop won his AG in Utah. He came in 4th in LP in '08 then won his AG last year and went to Kona and came in ~11-13 in his AG. His Utah time was ~15' off his LP time last year. I was excited to see his splits through the day. A big coaching group he is part of had 10 folks do the race. The 4 coaches all came in top 35 OA..impressive results. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread LP must be pretty hardcore too then. I saw the coverage of the rainy one on TV. I have to figure which full(s) to do next year. Was thinking of IMUK and possibly B2B. it may be time to consider one abroad and/or a non-m-dot one. considering 2 in a year next year. gotta admit, i am a bit nervous about the oil spill for IMFL based on what I am hearing. Wonder if there is a backup plan to include a swim in a different body of water, will it become a du, or what? |

Oil spill I would think would effect that more than IMFL in November. By November things should be cleaned up or problem solved. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Crap. I hadn't even THOUGHT about the oil spill. I really hope they get it cleaned up in time for the race. If they don't, them IMHO they would have had PLENTY of time to figure something else out! Though, I can't think of any places close enough to move the race....you can't really "move" a race that size! |

Expert 1360 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I was thinking about that earlier too. I work in the environmental profession (spills on Land not water) and in my experiance these kinds of things can take a really long time to fix. Apparently the county that Panama City Beach is in has declared a state of emergency... I was actually going to mention it on here too. IMSG - that bike looks insane. So happy i didn't get talked into that one last year!!! |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread It will be interesting to see how the BP cap/pyrmad works. The relief drilling rig is on site and setting anchors, but the Mexican well that blew out ~20 years ago took several months to get the relief well drilled. They plan to have the cap ready in seven days. I don't know how much longer it will take to get it there and installed. You can bet they want to be capturing that oil. The value of that oil (assuming 1000 to 2000 Barrels/per day) is half a million to a million dollars a week. Anyway if they can capture most of the escaping oil, then we're looking at at least five months of time for the natural microbes, wind, and weather to break up digest and disperse the oil. Still right now it looks a little scarey, but I've got other things to worry about. (my run for instance ) |

You're a strong biker. You just need to hit those hills. At least you have plenty to train on and hopefully in favourable weather too compared to the rest of us! |

My mother, sister and extended family all live on the gulf and I know they are expecting to be affected for quite a while.
