Sounds like more fun than torture.  I'm in for Saturday (if I can find my chest strap).

Cool.  I know when I did it on the bike I had a hard time trying to determine what to hold for a pace such that your going all out but able to hold it the full duration but I am thinking I can judge it better on the run.  I am hoping so anyways.

That's the way I feel too.  Good luck, suffer well and let us know how it went.

trying1 - 2009-12-30 6:31 PM Wow I had a hard swim workout.  My gym's pool for some reason was over 90F.  Swimming 400's felt like I was swimming 1200's.  My workout was only 45 min but it felt like it was over an hr.  I felt exhausted, I couldn't swim another lap..  Though the exhaustion may be due to all the beer and fried chicken I ate for dinner last night.  Kelly I'm not sure if you've ever been to Blue Ribbon Bakery, the fried chicken is great (and so is the bread).

Don't like running in 90 temps, and I am sure swimming in it wouldn't be much better.  Fried Chicken & beer... WOW, It has been ions since I tasted that... Trying1 is trying to sabotage my efforts at eating clean and moving more bu these subliminal suggestions!!!

The thought of fried chicken and beer just literally made my mouth water... at 830 in the morning.

So I actually got over my crud and did a nice easy hour on the trainer last night.  It's amazing how quickly your body loses some of it's mojo when you take some time off.

Here's a question, I've noticed recently that my left toes and the outside of my left foot are going painfully numb when I ride.  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and any suggestions on what might be causing it?  My cycling shoes are eons old, but I've never had this happen before.  It's uncomfortable, and I would be concerned if it happened while training/racing if I were doing a brick, as I can't feel my left foot when I get off the trainer.

Thoughts?

Your shoes still right right?  Try loosening them up.  Um, you mentioned you gained a bit of weight (so stop thinking about the chicken and beer), sadly, it can actually go to your feet.  Weird, I know.  Also, make sure you don't have an exaggerated heal lift when peddling (which is either just poor form or your seats to high).  I assume nothing has changed on your bike and since this is new I'll not go on the fit path.

Ugh, pouring down rain here.  Looks like I might have to hold out until Saturday for testing (which is promising to be a nice day).  I'll still run today but not a good testing environment.  I have really learnt to resent rain in my 10 years living in Oregon.

Ok, no end to the rain in sight and I decided I still wanted to test today so off to the treadmill I went.  I figure outside is inconsistant at best so I'll just head back to the treadmill when I need to test again.  I ended up with 179 as my average for the 20 minute test so these are my HR Zones for the Run
HR/Pace labelRange data labelCumulative Time in zone
1 - Recovery118 - 152
2 - Extensive Endurance153 - 162
3 - Intensive Endurance163 - 171
4 - Sub-Threshold172 - 178
5a - SuperThreshold179 - 183
5b - Anaerobic Endurance184 - 188
5c - Power190 - 198

I find that over the last month or so I am getting faster on the run which is pretty cool.  I never thought I could substain a sub 9 min mile and now I find I can (although I usually go at around 9:15-9:30).  Course my distance needs to increase but I am pretty stoked about that.  I attribute it to two things, figuring out negative splits and losing a bit of weight.  Oh, and consistancy of course...but that's boring

Happy New Yeal, all! I'm just in from a 2 mile jaunt through the neighborhood. What a way to break in a new pair of shoes. It's going to be a great relationship. On the run I set a goal of at least 500 miles of running in 2010. Here's how 2009 ended up for me:

Happy New Year!  Brought in 2010 with a two mile run a few minutes ago.  This is going to be a new tradition in my household.  The last year was a great one learning a new life style.  The next year is going to be even better as I contine my journey.  Looking forward to all of the training that awaits me in the near future.

My 2009 totals are very close to Tif's.  I did not start logging my workouts like I should have when we first started.

Embarrassing that I ran more hours than biked in 2009 Embarassed Although there were a lot of hours on the trainer last winter that I didn't log miles so the mileage is better than it looks, but not by much.  Guess we can add some bike time to 2010 goals.

Very nice, looks like your test went well

Treadmill is the way to go for consistent testing. Just beware when training out in the cold/hot you're HR will fluctuate so always good to go off RPE as well as HR...

Does 200 pull mean to use a pull buoy or swim w/o kicking?
