After a DNF at Lake Placid this past weekend, I felt compelled to sign up for Louisville. I've actually been wanting to do this race for three years now, so I am super exicted! Welcome to the group. Sorry to hear about the DNF this past weekend. Will Louisville be your second IM or have you done them before? |

LOL We did exactly that last year (got on even though it was going up). We had to pass on no less than 15 elevators that opened up. Everyone is trying to take their bikes to their cars so there is not much room left in the elevators. |

Sorry to hear about the DNF this past weekend. Will Louisville be your second IM or have you done them before? I had a DNS for IMLP in 2010. I got tendonitis in my knee on my last Long Ride. I finished IMLP in 2011 with an 11:58. And this year I totall screwed up my pre-race nutrition (took in less than 200 calories before the swim) and ended up in the medical tent after I got off the bike. So this will be my 4th Ironman attempt. |

Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread japarker24 - 2012-07-26 1:27 PM Welcome, Dream Chaser!!!!!!!!! Thanks After a heartbreaking DNF 5 days ago, all I can share is: Pay attention to small detail as the small details add up. I was so damn confident in my training going into Lake Placid I figured everything else would fall into place. Big mistake. Twice I've royally screwed up my nutrition at the Ironman distance. The analogy that pops into my mind is even if you've done the proper training and built yourself a BIG AEROBIC ENGINE, that engine is useless if you don't have FUEL in it. If the tank is on Empty - you won't be going anywhere. Super-psyched to join you guys |

I just used Veloink.com and they are amazing! Ordered them on Friday morning and they showed up Monday! Matt’s work is amazing! What kind of custom stickers are you putting on your bike? Any pics? I don't have a picture with me but they are custom top tube with name and goal times etc. only 20 bucks for a sheet of them. |

If the tank is on Empty - you won't be going anywhere. Super-psyched to join you guys I had a very similar issue just recently. I DNFd at Racine 70.3 after (apparently) drinking too much water in the 3 days before the race and flushed/diluted the electrolytes in my system. My entire body locked up and cramped on the bike and fairly early on the bike. I tried something new at the urging of someone else and it failed miserably. I had successfully completed 2 HIMs prior to that race. This one was maddening and humiliating. I physically felt ready to challenge a 5-hour time and walked half the run before getting to the med tent. I guess in a way it was good, because I'm revamping my nutrition (pre- and in-race) for Louisville. I'm ready for the time to arrive! |

Yeah, I've found that just focusing on hydrating the day before works well for me. Swapping water and gatorade every few hours. Small consistent sips throughout the day. The days leading up to that I just try to stay hydrated the same as I do during training. If I pee and it's not clear, it mean I still need to drink. And if I do end up drinking a little too much water, I'll wash down some Salt Tabs or eat something salty. |

I am actually shocked the host hotel has rooms still available 30 days out. The woman taking reservations did say there are a limited amount of rooms left... With Athlete registration and the Expo, There is just too much going on in the Galt House for my tastes. I'm staying up closer to the finish line at the Hyatt/Marriott complex. Although it is a longer walk to transition and start, it is a shorter walk home at the end of the race. ETA: I don't mind the longer walk on race morning. I am not going to stress about getting in the front of the line. I plan to sleep as late as possible. Edited by japarker24 2012-07-26 4:44 PM |

Good thing this year they have shuttles at the finish line to take you back to T2 Once I leave T2 on the run, I don't go back. I guess I'm fortunate that I have family/friends with me who use the ticket to get my bike & bags from transition while I'm on the run. |
