SSMinnow - 2009-09-24 10:40 AM Sam--I love the avatar! Do you have matching boots?

Because Stan told me to, I did a run through Central Park today.  Don't people in NY work?  The place was packed with runners and bikers and it was 9am.  It is hotter than heck here--supposed to hit mid 80s and very humid.  TG, I brought shorts.  Tonight we are off to an early dinner and to see Jersey Boys.

Have a great weekend everyone!

PS I heard someone calling my name on the way home from the run.  Can you believe I could actually bump into someone I know in this city? CRAZY.

apparently as little as people from madison, wi. ;-)

That was funny!

Actually, for once John was really funny!

I am going to guess we walked another 5 miles this afternoon. Still hotter than he#@, still having fun.  2 hours and we will be breaking out the cocktails---for me that is wine, NOT J&C like Birdy or beer like John, Andy, Sam, Tony and the list goes on.....

Aw, C'mon, Suzy, John's been funny at least twice!!!

wait.  just twice.  i thought i was funny at least three times.  oh wait that's right, it didn't register that one time.

have fun at jersey boys tonight suzy.  we caught it on the west end in london last year.  its awesome!!!

Hey All....good luck to you racers this weekend!! Sounds like everyone is racing a 1/2. You guys are strong.
Been busy with work lately, moving offices, training, etc, etc. Lots of stress, and not alot of workouts. I did finish the 200 situp thing with the wife finally. That was tough.
Leg is feeling better, but conditioning has probably fallen off in the last 2 weeks. My 1/2 marathon next weekend should be interesting.

Hello Digital so to be real life friends......

Actually saw "Gods of Carnage" last night which was funny and very intense.  Today a museum, shopping in SOHO and dinner out.  These late nights are killing this "10pm to bed" girl", but we are having fun.

One final STAY TOUGH OUT THERE to the racers...and I'm off.

PS NO working out...sticking to the sabattical.

Today was my third AM swim in a row. I am in week ten of a 12 week program for my olympic. I normally do not swim 100's but this morning my goggles were not seated well and water was leaking in so I stopped at 100 yds to adjust them. Looking at my timer I saw "1:39" and that is without a wetsuit. When I started I was 1:55 at best.

Needless to say despite being tired from 8250 yds. of swimming this week I was pumped to see that I have improved.

One more full week and then a taper week to go.

Nice improvement Doug!!

I had the opposite experience this morning.  I swam for the first time in months and I thought I was going to die after 300 yds.  I'd like to write that I'm rededicating myself to regular swimming, but you guys might try to hold me to it.

No desire to do a full IM at this point, so no.

Seriously looking forward to MCM being done with, can't wait to get back to Tri training.

How much is a Kona lottery spot?  Wasn't planning on it but hey, it is KONA!!!

Speaking of swimming - I was at the pool yesterday and decided lap swimming is really boring!  I've been doing so much open water work that I don't like stopping at the wall and going back and forth.  I never thought I would say I preferred open water to the pool.  Guess I'll have to start doing drills again at the pool just to take my mind off it.  Any one else feel that way?

X10000

I was saying that to sam a few months ago.  I read a post here on BT somewhere where someone said they enjoyed OWS more than pool swimming and I thought that they were crazy.

I could swim all day in a lake now.  Where after about 30 minutes in the pool I get bored.

I am with you there.  I haven't been doing  as much swimming the last couple weeks after I figured how easy wetsuit swimming was, but a couple nights ago, I went down to swim a continuous mile at the pool...and it was set up on the 25yd course.  I thought to myself about half way thru, that it would be nice to just take a nap until done.  BORING!

I have signed up for Kona lottery the last couple years... (I think it is $50 or so).... No luck, but may try  again..... You never know.

I have always been a bigger fan of OWS than the pool!  I think I have actually fallen asleep in the pool!

So last night we left this guys house @ 7:15 to do a 90 minute trail run in a place called "cougar mountain." It was my 1st run of the year with the headlamp and the 1st time running w/ this crew..... Here are some results of their races this past year
2008
  • 4th place: Primal Quest - expedition race - Big Sky, Montana
  • 1st place: Desert Winds 24 hour race - Lake Mead, Arizona
  • 1st place: World Championship Qualifier - Baja Travesia expedtion race - Baja, Mexico

2008
  • 1st place: Momar - Cumberland
  • 1st Place: Gorge games 24 hour adventure race - Hood River , OR
  • 1st place: Desert Winds 24 hour race - Lake Mead, Arizona
  • 1st Place: Upsate Adventure Race - South Carolina
  • 13th Place: Abu Dhabi Adventure Race - United Arab Emirates

2007
  • 1st Place: Big Blue Tahoe - Tahoe City, CA
  • 4th place: XPD Australia expedition race - Queensland, Australia
  • 2nd place: Raid the North Extreme expedition race - Prince Rupert, Canada
  • 3rd place: Sea Otter Classic sprint adventure race - Monterey, California
2008
Adventure Racing
  • 1st Place USARA National Adventure Racing Championship
  • 1st Place Checkpoint Tracker National Adventure Racing Series
  • 1st Place Upstate Adventure Race
  • 1st place Adventure Extreme Moab Expedition
  • 1st place Blue Blue Kit Carson 24 hour race
  • 1st place Gorge Games 24 hour race
  • 1st place: Desert Winds 24 hour race
  • 1st place: World Championship Qualifier - Baja Travesia expedtion race
  • 13th Place Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge

However they were the nicest group!  Luckily Cougar Mtn. is my home away from home when running so I knew what I was getting into, and they were a great group!  ***Heavy in recruiting me to try a 24hr adventure race!***  I am standing on a ledge on that one.  It would be fun, but I LOVE MY SLEEP!

I was just happy my headlamp was able to hang with theirs!

Steve:

You should do it! Having done 24 hr events in the way past I'll just say that it will take you to new places. Oh, and the hallucinations after 18 hrs. are awesome!

I prefer OWS too. No counting or tracking, more rhythm and I can play songs in my head.

Steve--Aren't you always the one to tell us to take some risks and have some fun?  I kind of remember hearing that before I signed up for the HIM.  Do the 24 hour deal, but only if it doesn't interfere with the chance to come meet us.  Selfishly, I would rather see you in TX.

Tracy, Tony et al-I had a tiny bit of trouble readjusting to the pool after so much OWS, but now I really like it again.  I think a lot depends on the structure of your workouts.  I have enough variety between drills, intervals and endurance swims that I am not yet bored.  It might partly be due to the fact I know I have a lot to get done between now and next season compared to the rest of you guys.

So, to make things very interesting, I decided to be a complete DA and not watch were I was walking and twisted my ankle yesterday!  It hurt, but not too bad.  I thought it would go away overnight, but did not.  I can walk right now, but with a slight limp.  I've got ice on it, taking advil and am hoping the it does not swell.  It doesn't look like there is any swelling right now, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  Talk about bad timing!
