Roni has worn the ultra shoes, hasn't she??!

Sam, you will rock the race!! If it's at all like an IM, it's just a very long day. Keep putting one foot in front of the other. Manage your nutrition. Enjoy the moments -- good and bad -- for it is a gift to be out there experiencing those moments!

I was reading something about whether an IM or an Ultra was harder.  The consensus was the Ultra because it was using the same muscle group over and over.    So Ms. Sam when you're done you will have one up on nearly all of us!  You'll be fine. Think of the strategy many of us use for IM, run, walk the water stops and modify as need be.  You trained for this.  You'll be awesome!

tricrazy - 2011-11-18 10:20 AM Who in the MG has done an ultramarathon?  I am hoping to do a 50 miler in October and was hoping for some training insight.

Sam and I have both run 50k's. After this weekend Sam will have a 50 miler under her belt. I will be doing a 50 miler in two weeks. I'm sure we'd both be happy to share anything we have and will learn along the way. If your ONLY concern is to finish, I, hopefully, will be able to give you some insight on that. If you want to finish in a timely fashion, Sam would be your girl.

If you have the desire to do it, I say go for it!!!

GO SAM!!! YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR!!!

Like Kyla said, one foot in front of the other. Your feet WILL NOT fall off... they will hurt, but you've been there before. Just tell them to be quiet and keep moving forward. YOU WANT THIS AND IT IS YOURS!!! (remember that when you want to quit) Also, remember we are all here cheering for you and waiting to hear about your day! *HUGS*

All I keep thinking is HOLY SH*T 50 miles is a really long way.  I think my feet are gonig to fall off.

it's how mine is feeling! It IS a really llng way and you are going to rock it! Can't wait to hear all about your spectacular day!!!

Just returned from the start of JFK. I think I saw our Sam Smile and Tony and I just spoke on the phone . It is amazing how "chill" people are. Several hundred runners started several minutes after the official start simply walking slowly and then they realized the race had already started. I guess a few minutes do not matter when racing all day. GO SAM!!

Yea, at all of the ultras I've been to the race start has been rather anti-climactic with the exception of some howling at the moon.   It's cool that you are so close to the oldest ultra-marathon in the country!

GO SAM!!!
