Not much multi for me this month, either, but my biggest run month to date!

August's totals:
Bike:2h 22m 30s  - 35.79 Mi
Run:24h 56m 50s  - 170.27 Mi
Swim:5h 35m  - 18000 Yd

My daughter has her first practice with the swim team tomorrow, and I start my new part-time job as a "Swim Parent". I guess what goes around comes around. Thanks, Mom!

TrevorC - 2010-08-31 4:03 PM Canada general entry is now full. Went on this morning at ~~8MST this morning and could still get in. I went on now and its full.

Thoughts from the weekend:
- meeting Sister Madonna was cool. Heard she had a wetsuit issue, and received a new one the day before the race, and for whatever reason she didn't end up finishing the swim.
- Michelle & I got a quick meet and greet with Tracy nice before race. Didnt get to meet up race day, was crazy!

- Race Day was awesome. Seeing ~3k people mass start on the beach was an amazing site.
Then jumped over to Main Street and watched them all leave transition. What a supportive town. People everywhere.
Went for ride, and then met up with my teammates who weren't racing to watch for our guys/gals the last 2k on the bike.  Had a great spot(Cherry Lane Mall for Ryan/Steve). Got the runners at 5k as well going out.

Finish Line Catcher role was soooooo unreal. I Will totally do it again someday. What an ispiring place to be.  I saw/helped finishers from 12:30-17hrs. So many neat people and stories. A few people totally made my cry when talking with them. One guy totally hit home for me. Told me about how he kit a 'funk' in his life. gained a bunch of weight, etc, etc. Now he had lost the lbs and how' important today was for him'. I then walked him over to wife and young kids. I'm almost tearing up writing that again.
1 guy at 16:59:50 and another at 16:59:53. Still tons of people there. Great, great atmopshere.
Really enjoyed catching me teammates. All  catchers were good about letting others go catch people they knew. It was surreal catching buddies who you've trained all year with. Helping them through the medals/pics/food and then talking to them about their day was very, very motivating. Michelle said she saw me a few times on the local TV feed popping into the picture.
Weather was unusually cool. Had a bunch of rain and wind on the ride.

Sign up- got there early. they said 9-11 sign up. I got there at 7:00ish. It was already open for volunteers. Waited about 45 minutes and then BOOM i was front of line. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a major know in my tummy when the waved me to the table. And then :

Dear Trevor

Chris - Awesome that you were able to stick with it and achieve your goal!  Sounds like a brutal day and you persevered - CONGRATS.

Trevor - awesome that you took the plunge.  I guess you know what you will be doing from March through August next year!

I am assuming we have someone else who is coming back from Canada with an IM registration confirmation???

Like I said last night, we're off to Minocqua, the crazy thing is high temps are supposed to be in the 50s, lows in the 40s and rain so that'll interfere with a lot of our plans.  Ah well, we still have two parties to attend rain or shine!

2 hr ride saturday followed by 15 min run
90 minute run on Sunday
2+ hr group ride with team on Monday.

LOL, and again, not training for anything in particular, why am I doing this much work again???

Also smoking a pork shoulder Sunday-Monday to have ready for the Virginia Tech game Monday night vs. Boise.

My brothers birthday is the 4th, and mine is the 12th, so he's buying the meat for my birthday and I'm cooking it for his birthday.

Oh and if you are thinking of presents, a size 52 Cyclocross bike would be awesome.

Still waiting to sign up for that first 2011 race in the 40-44 AG....

No racing for me.  I have been amusing myself by spending a lot of time chatting with the IM-Moo peeps that are all freaking out.  I know this is easy for me to say, not racing, but I saw the effort and hours you all (y'all in honor of my Texas time) have put into training........you are READY!  Relax, race your plan, have fun...and..  More Cowbell....More Cowbell!

Tony, I couldn't stay motivated either, just seemed to have lost my "Mojo" so I registered for another Oly and Sprint in September.  Any races available around home?  If nothing else, it has made it easy to get up at 4:30am to start putting in some yardage again in the pool this week.

The Dino's are planning on hitting 6-flags with the kids one day this weekend for our annual "roller-coaster" event.  Other than that, just some bike miles, some run miles, and some swimming yardage.  Hopefully will get to some of the footbal game as my Badgers beat the hell out of UNLV on Saturday night .....  Oh, and probably lots of "calming" conversations about next weekend here in Wisconsin, I hear there is some sort of race going on in Madison?

For those lucky souls that are racing this weekend, enjoy the day and:

Represent!

Dino

Headed to the Lake one more time before the end of the season.  Hopefully it will start getting cooler here soon.  I'm ready. Of course that just means I want it to be 70! Anything below that is cold.

Question for the group....Does anyone have a good online source for bike tires that has good prices?

I should be embarrased to admit this but I sent the bike in for a tune up and to be professionally scrubbed down since it's been sitting so long and they said I needed a new front tire because mine had tire rot!  Yeah, guess it's time to get back on it.

My plans to ride up Mt. Baker with a couple others fell through, so I'm going on a small group ride instead Saturday morning.  My parents are visiting, so the longer the ride the better .  I jest, and they're really just here to see their grandkids anyway.  The rest of the weekend will be spent hanging out with friends and fam.

Boot Camp was a killer this morning - I don't know how the instructor does it, but the class never gets easier or boring.  If anyone is looking for a little something to mix it up in the offseason, I'd highly recommend something similar.  Ours is a solid hour of cadio intervals and strength training - lots of push-ups, pull-ups, running stairs, plyometrics, sprints, squats, core, balance, agility.  It's probably my favorite workout of the week.?

I made it back into the country and my body is rehydrating in the North Carolina humidity.    What an amazing experience.  Body marking was the coolest thing.  It was interesting to see the athletes FIRST thing in the morning.  Some were literally shaking from nerves.  Got my photo taken with my fist athlete (at 4:55am) and even marked a few pros, including the winning female!    The funniest part was the athletes are all ready to tell you their race number but when you ask for their age you get, " uuuuhhhhh, uuuuuhhhhh........."  My husband had some guy that just kept repeating his age group;  Doug, "What's your age?"   Athlete, "40-45"   Doug, "No, I need your age for your calf?"  Athlete, "40-45"   Doug, "I can't put 40-45 on your leg."  Athlete, "40-45"  Poor guy.  It was great to get them to relax and smile by telling them to form a line and stip in front of me Kiss.

Trevor, sorry I wasn't able to call you on race day. My phone was doing funny things being in Canada and finally locked up completely.  Besides, I was up at 3am that morning and went back for a quick nap that turned in 3.5 hours of sleep.  Then I saw the weather and decided the TV in my hotel was good.   I heard it hailed on the bike course coming down Yellow Lake.

Speaking of the bike course - I GOTTA GET ME SOME MORE GEARS!!!!!   Holy Crap!!!   What Canadians call rollers ain't what North Carolinians call rollers.  If it climbs 500ft, plateaus and then climbs another 500ft - that ain't a roller, that's a mountain!!!   Definitely gonna have to intensify my Ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr for this race!!!!

I have some photos to share soon.  Nice one of the group running in Seattle and several men wearing capris in Canada.  Guess Steve isn't alone in his fashion sense.

Chris - I read your quick post about the race in the airport and was just amazed.  That is inexcusable for them to run out of water of all things.  You are incredibly inspirational.  I'll think about you every time I b*tch about the cold weather - IT COULD BE WORSE!!!!!   Congratulations a million times over!!!!   What an epic journey.

Doug - blow it off completely.  That race sounds like a recipe for disaster a hundred times over.  Augusta is going to be crowded enough as it is.

I need to work out the details, but I am 80% sure I am dropping the Nation's Tri. I have inquired about a refund, but do not have high hopes. In its place I am trying to get into the White Lake Olympic on 9/11. It is only 2 hrs away and has a cap of 700. Thanks for everyone's advice it helped alot. Sometimes you can be too close to something and need other independent points of view.

BTW: Read hliles RR for Ironman KY for some more inspiration like Chris's.

Not racing, but NEXT WEEK I AM!!!!!! SUPER EXCITED! I'm starting to hate the swims though.  I have a nice brick, 30 mi run, and Swim 1000 TT.  This weekend.

Finally the cooler weather has been setting in. It's about time...need to go outside more for the runs! :-P

Most likely will focus on homework catch ups and Finals for Labor day. :-
