Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge StartingToTri - 2011-10-17 9:34 AM The marathon is over! The marathon is OVER!! (yes, that makes me happy enough to shout...) Weight is up around 149... which is a good 4-5 pounds over where I started this journey. But, I'm slowly turning things around. Last week got a DEXA scan done to measure body fat ... and as I expected, I'm up around 30%. So - my goal - is to drop it 4% over the next 4 months. And there's at least a little external motivation: the place that does the scans will give me 2 free scans if I can hit that. Cooked and food prepped this weekend -- that always makes me behave during the week -- but need to figure out a way to streamline the process so it doesn't take me 2-3 hours. Some weekends I can do it with no problem, but when I get time-crunched, it's the first thing to go and then I eat badly all week. And post-marathon life has started ... I went to my first CrossFit session on Saturday! And DANG am I sore! Awesome. Good for you on initiating post marathon life. If you figure out a way to stream line the process of food prep, let me know. I try to do most of it while cooking a main meal. That way I feel like I am multi-tasking. I do the same thing as you though, I tend to put that "on the back burner" when time gets scarce. (sorry for the bad pun). |

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Feeling like autumn's evil twin around here... rainy, cold, windy. It's enough to make a girl want to stay inside, snuggled on the couch with the dog, watching TV. Too bad there are mortgages and bills to pay! Sometimes I hate being an adult. Or, at least, an adult who hasn't yet trained her dog to go out and get a good paying job... I know I've talked here before about self-sabotage, and how I seem to fall into that trap. Ran across this post today where the author asserts that there is no such thing as self-sabotage... I'm not necessarily 100% in agreement, but I can totally see his point. It made for interesting reading, so I thought I'd pass it along, seeing as how it could resonate with some of you here... Here's the link in case anyone is interested...

(edited because my brain is thinking one thing and my fingers are typing another...) I actually think self sabotage and positive intent (when referring to not attaining a goal) are the same think. Studiously avoiding (intent) the hard decisions (self sabotage) because of fear of failure, fear of change or other reason, are the same things. You gotta figure out WHY (intent) you are avoiding (sabotage) the behaviors that will change the situation. That was a good article. Look for the root of why you aren't changing. I could stand to spend some time on this. |

Master 1480 Southwest Chicago 'burbs | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Robin - congrats!! That's great progress! I'm just happy that I'm finally back down to about where I started this whole thing...
Bill - I have absolutely nothing to back up this opinion, but here it is: I think that when you starve your body, it tries to hang onto calories because it needs them simply to exist. It's not holding onto calories because it thinks you might do something extra, but at a basic level it needs to feed your organs. That said, if you're eating enough to cover your not-doing-a-damn-thing-all-day calorie expenditure, I can't see the body holding onto anything more in anticipation of a possible long training day. I'm curious to hear what other's think. I could certainly be going in the wrong direction on this.
And on the topic of my weekly weigh-in: yes, I'm finally back to where I started this mess. So - I've gained and lost about 6 pounds. Which almost counts, right? The new training regime -- CrossFit, heavy Olympic lifting, shorter bike/run -- seems to be making my body sit up and take notice. That coupled with a much cleaner diet, and I think I might be finally doing myself some good. |

Master 1531 TORONTO | Subject: RE: Body Composition Challenge Congrats on all the progress everyone! I didn't officially start until after my race (Sept 11) and so I'm down 2 pounds but it wobbles from day to day. Truth be told I've been lazy the past couple of weeks and bread, rice and pasta have infiltrated my diet at the expense of veggies so I pressed the reset button yesterday and am MOTIVATED! I think I'll start logging my intake just to keep track. I have to get on a cruise in 3 weeks so the goal is to lose - so that when I gain (and I know I will) - I'm back to where I am now. Silly but realistic. Hoping to get some good workouts in on the boat. Stay the course everyone! PS does this challenge end next week? eek! Let's give it a good push everyone!!! ONE WEEK TO GO! |

LOL, well you know what happens when you don't earn enough peaches Tough Love! I'm going to write everything down again from goals to nutrition to my plan. First thing, I'm back to clean eating...other than some drinking on my dates (believe me some dates REQUIRE drinking)and Halloween party this weekend. |

Still... down 4 lbs and several inches since the start, which is much better than nothing Does anyone know how to set up a spreadsheet so we can track our progress? I know accountability is a huge motivator for me. |
