I'm racing - last tri of the year. Patriots HIM. Goal - still trying to break 6 hrs. Not sure my head, heart or body is into at the moment. I put in the time - more training than any of my other HIMs but I kept getting slower and slower. So who knows how it will go. Good luck racers! Have fun and kick butt. |

HA, not racing but I have a tougher day than Suzy. Both kids doing a tri saturday morning and Sam will be at her race so I am solo Sherpa/parenting... How to handle the day, is to race with what you got. All the training is done, just race the plan. You are not going to get magically faster or more endurance on race day. You're going to kick some A$$ this weekend Suzy, I can't imagine there is anyone more prepared than you are. And good luck to everyone else racing, looking forward to reading all these race reports on how everyone set PR's, crushed dreams, etc. |

It appears I don't need to state the obvious that I'm doing a little race this weekend, but what the heck. I'M DOING THE IM I HAVE WANTED TO DO SINCE 2002! I've thought of all the great people that have helped me along the way, those that have kicked my a$$ when I've needed it (Birdy) and provided support when I was ready to give up (the list is very, very long). You are high on the list of those folks. Very excited, a tad nervous, but mostly ready to get the party started and bring it home. Many people have asked me what my time goal is and I always tell them "to finish" and that is the truth, but just like my first marathon there is a yearning to do better. We'll see. Either way, I promise to be as tough as I can be and will be thinking of you guys a lot while I stroke, pedal and put one foot in front of the other! |

Finally, after 4 months of training! Lake Las Vegas Tri. Same Swim/Run as IronGirl, but a little bit tougher bike. I'm having slight pangs that I should have trained more on the hills, but I'll do with what I got. Goal - finish, and do a little better than my sprint times. Oh yeah, and don't freak in the water? |

I have a huge breakthrough workout planned all day Sunday with "More cowbell....more cowbell" at some little race up here called IM-MOO. I am working swim bag drop off from 5:30am to 7:30am and also running one of the sag wagons for a couple of hours from 9:30 to early afternoon. Should be fun to see all "the peeps" right before the gun goes off from the beach, including some of the pros! Hopefully won't see anybody I know while in the van! If I remember correctly, I believe somebody in the MG is doing this race with 3000 of her friends? ![]() Oh, and I am turning the entire weekend into a "Tri weekend" because I am also racing on Saturday morning. Another Oly on tap on a beautiful but very tough and hilly course (back me up on this Suzy). I have 2 goals on the day.... Enjoy the laid back atmosphere of this race and crush the run (Goal: under 8:00 min/miles on the run) ....MUST....PACE....BIKE....WATTS.... as Trevor would say. Good luck to all the racers out there......... Represent! Dino |

Good luck to EVERYONE racing this weekend. 2 more weeks to go for me. Suzy, not having any advise from IM race experience, here is what helped me while watching Canada. I thought I would be completely freaked out and overwhelmed, but it was the opposite. I was looking at ALL the racers of every different body shape and gear type and it gave me confidence. I thought, if 3000 people do this race every year then I can do it too. Some how the 5 lbs I want to loose and the speed I "think" I need weren't so important any more. Ironmen are all about putting the "hay in the barn" so to speak and sticking to your plan. We all know you have put enough hay in the barn to feed every cow in Wisconsin for the winter and are super disciplined when it comes to following a plan, so you should have a great race. Have a wonderful time and compose a fabulously detailed RR while you are out there please. ![]() Edited by tahrens 2010-09-08 10:16 AM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Countdown, Suzy!!! Can't wait to track you on Sunday. My advice is common.....have fun. You've trained so long, so hard, and so well for this race - all that's left is the day.....and it will be incredible. Highs and lows, ups and down, everything you think it will be, and so much more than you can imagine. Pay attention....remember everything. Savor the day - you've EARNED it. Buy the pictures!!! I'm doing a 10k race, and being the spectator for Jeff's oly and Zach's (14 yo) sprint. Should be a nice weekend, it's at Pacific Grove, right next to Monterey/Carmel. The run is right along the beach. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gosh, thanks for all the well wishes and great advice. I will take some time to re-read it and commit it to memory! Got some very sad news a little while ago. One of my training partners is out of IM. She was diagnosed with a blood clot in her leg, but original diagnosis was she could still participate because it was in a superficial vein. She found out today through some additional testing, it runs the from her upper thigh to upper calf and actually dumps into a deeper vein. Dang. Very heartbreaking. |

The 10% grade hills made me cry (well, not really. They made me walk!)....if he pulls off an 8:00 pace, I promise to run the last 5K of IM. Dino, don't let me down....wonder what that means??? ![]() |

I'm ver excited for you.. I still remember when you were terrified of the water, now you're a pro.. Have fun.. good luck to everyone racing. I have a crowded olympic race this weekend in DC. This week i've been having fun down in the Barrier Islands... though I'm drinking a little too much beer.. Had a nice windy ride this morning and practiced OWS the past 2 days with and without the wetsuit. Also had nice practice runs in full tri gear too. I like this area, tons of friendly people. Though I'm not sure if they're used to people running in spandex.. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Lots of racers!!! Good luck to all! Can't wait to read the RRs when you are done!! Suzy, my very best advice is just to enjoy the day. Every minute. The good and the bad. Remember that the goods are nothing if you don't have bads to back them up and reflect upon. Every experience can be a story. The good and the bad. Every moment will be a memory. The good and the bad. The day is yours, you worked hard to get there, you paid your money, you put in your work, and now you get to reap all of your rewards. Sunday is a gift. Your body is a gift. Your mind is a gift. Your opportunity is a gift. Be thankful for all that you have been given. And race your little heart out!!! Lastly, my mantra during my day when things really sucked... FORWARD PROGRESS. Each step you take brings you one step closer to the finish. Forward progress. |
