Welcome back!

You have the Pearl Izumi tri shorts, right?  The In-R-Cool 8" Tri Short? Do you like them?  My recent pair of DeSoto 400 mile shorts don't fit like the old ones and I'm looking for other options.

(Other's feel free to chime in here!)

I've been using and loving these http://www.sierratradingpost.com/orca-226-lite-tri-shorts-upf-50-pl... believe they have a regular ( not lite for summertime) version too. The pad is not as thick as the 400s, so that may be a deal breaker for you.

I have these ones... http://www.pearlizumi.com/content/pearlizumi/united-states/en/home/products/women/ride/apparel/shorts/shorts-11211126.html

but they're more of a cycling short than a tri short - I don't think I'd want to run in them afterward, but they're great for longer rides and I used them for IMAZ last year and then just changed in T2 to running tights.

Totally weird, NyNy! My new ones don't fit right either and it's not the weight loss (other shorts still fit fine) ... it's weird, it's like there's a seam exactly where the inner part of my leg contacts the side of the saddle. Not happy and I'm going to talk to Emilio about it. Do you have the men's or women's? I have men's. I generally wear men's shorts, always have--I think it was you that posted the article about why men's shorts are good for women a while back.

Before I ordered, I asked the fine folks at DeSoto if they changed the sizing because the Forza sizing is all messed up.  The new ones fit in the waist but if they get wet (it's a triathlon, people!  they're gonna get wet), they get baggy aroudn the thigh.  Please let him know.  I have the women's.

The price is right.  How is the sizing for the Orcas?

I think they run pretty true to size. When my weight is such that I wear a size 2, the small works well and when I'm into size 4s, the medium is just a little loose, but I wear it anyway to avoid the dreaded muffin top!

Amazingly crazy busy 36-hour...with a detour to the Grand Canyon thrown in for good measure! The kids and I can't wait to go back to Zion. They didn't want to stop hiking and climbing. Out of 4 total hours of hiking yesterday (2 early morning, 1 after lunch, 1 at North Rim of GC) my daughter only let herself be carried for about 45 minutes coming down the 2hr hike. DH got a closer look at her stubborn streak.Tongue out

We went to The Spotted Dog in Springdale for dinner Sat night. Fantastic food! My son said it's the best meatballs he's ever had in his life (lol). I ordered salmon on a parmesan and wild mushroom risotto...and it is still making my mouth water!

We saw bison, bighorn sheep, deer, lizards, frogs, fish, chipmunks while we were out and about. As we were leaving, we stopped at the nature center which was VERY kid friendly.

"Facebook Official" is the new gold standard for announcements (or so I've been told by my kids when their friends are in/out of relationships or the announce pregnancies).   I have on numerous occasions been sworn to secrecy until they make it "facebook official".

Erin, this sounds like such an awesome trip.  Very, very cool that you guys did this and did it spontaneously.  Lucky kids you've got there:)

I like my PI sugar shorts, I wore those for my HIM, and they were great.  For my other races (all shorter) i've just worn some black Nike fitted running shorts, which are fairly short with zero pad.  No issues.

I'm seriously considering racing in just a swimsuit next year, probably just a plain black Tyr two piece that I swim in cause I hate having stuff across my belly.  Have any of you done that?  If so, how often did you train like that?

I really think I'd prefer it for racing, but being the woman who runs or rides in a bikini for training give me serious, serious pause.

Very, very cool. I haven't spent much time down there. I wanna get all Aron Ralston up in that biznezz. Ok, not really, but I do really want to go.

I can answer that one without competing. Not me!!!!

Unless I got a new bike, or a  huge adjustment in my position

I don't have the time or desire for those 4+ hour training rides if I want to compete with engine alone.

These are a size "S" even though I'm not small.  With cycling gear I go for snug, and I have "S" in their cycling shorts and they're just right.  I got some size small specialized windstopper tights, and those fit just fine everywhere except in leg length (and they're not capris).  I'm only 5"6" which seems like a big fail on Specialized's part.

What I don't like about the tri shorts that I love about the cycling shorts is the waist and leg band width.  The cycling shorts have a bit wider waist band and leg band and I think it's both more comfortable and more flattering.  The cycling shorts also have a lower rise in the waist, and that's more comfortable for me--stuff on my belly makes me hot and uncomfortable.

I will happily send them to you if you want to try, and if they don't work, you can send them to someone else to try :)

Mama bear story...

Saturday DH, DS1 and I were at a church function that we do every month. DH and DS1 work on cars and I help do "service writing". A woman we'll call Cindy was working on the same crew with my guys but from what I understand she's on that crew so the "manager" can keep an eye on her work. Anyhoo, Cindy sees the 10k oval sticker on DS1's truck (which I bought for him after Bolder Boulder) and tells him that it's embarrasing to have that on there and he should have anything less than a HM.

Of course I didn't find out until later when we were home. He handled it well and talked about BolderBoulder and the fact that I'm doing Rock N Roll. Not sure that I'd have been as polite. 1) I hate it when runners/cyclists belittle other's accomplishments and  2) the mama bear factor. I told DS1 I'd have told her that 13.1 is my cool down. Grrrrrrrr.

Right? I just can't understand that mentality. I try so hard to encourage people into being active that discounting someone's accomplishment boggles my mind.

You can tell her to come on up to Seattle and I will race her in a 10K, since it's so easy I'm sure she'd be glad to do it.

I like it. Oh, and I guess when she first got there she made a general announcement to anyone who would listen that she might stink because she'd been running that morning. Um yeah, 1) shower 2) sounds like she just wants to brag about running.
