Jeremy - congrats on the birth of your daughter!  Hope everyone is doing well.

Matt - I'll admit it, I'm a little jealous.  I actually like painting rooms (I know, I'm a little strangeEmbarassed).  We did a horizontal stripe in each of our kids' rooms too.  Good luck with that - it's not as easy as you would think!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Janet

Jeremy, my congratulations as well.  I hope mom and baby are doing well.

I too had a great affair with my trainer tonight.  We finally sold the eliptical on Craig's List (yippy!) and so I set up my trainer in my bedroom vs the kitchen.  The hubby borrowed a trainer from a friend and we road together. Had to cut is short to make dinner for the kids, but it was nice to watch a DVD movie instead of the VHS/TV combo in the kitchen.  FYI, the Matrix makes a really nice training video. Smile

I had a great single girl weekend. Did my workouts, had a massage and saw Revolutionary Road with my BFF (which I would not recommend unless you like really intense relationship movies!)

I'm on the final count down until we leave for Hawaii (Kauai/Big Island).  Only 6 days to go...cannot wait to run outside, hike Waimea Canyon and Volcano National Park, and hit the beach.

Very jealous, I love Hawaii, haven't been back since kids.

Looking ahead at the weather this week in DC my mtn bike race should be interesting.  They say it will go no matter what the weather and it is supposed to rain/sleet/snow here most of the week then just get plain cold on Saturday, 23 miles in the mud, woo hoo!

Hey Congrats on Baby #2....enjoy!!!

Going to try to get back into the swing of things today....Hit the gym softly I think. Still feeling pretty beat up from the wisdom teeth. Pretty lethargic still, but I'm feeling like I need a boost somehow. My wife woke me up telling me yesterday that, "Hey, in 6 weeks from now you'll be done your 1st triathlon!!"

I guess its a good feeling to know that 4 days away from working out make me feel crappy! That's my motivation!

It's awesome to have the support of your wife like that. Jump back into the trainnig as soon as you can. The more training you can get in the better. Rest times are good though as that is the time the body is actually building your muscles.
i hit the gyM today also. nice swim and then a run inside of course as we are having another wonderful sunny southern Ontario day. -25 or so with the wind chill. I think the thing I find the hardest about doing any brick is getting my breathing down on the run. Thge legs sort themselves out after a little bit but I always seem to struggle witht he breathing until I get my second wind.

Got into the gym for the 1st time in 5 days. Wow that felt good!!! Teeth are still alittle sore, so my mouth felt weird running on the treadmill. But figured I'd ease back into things with a 40 min brick. It's amazing how a quick workout can revitalize!

Good job Trevor. I am trying to give myself a rest day with my half marathon coming up this Sunday and it is taking lots of willpower. We are watching Semi Pro with Will Farrell...silly movie. It's my day off today and I'm usually getting a workout in
It's good to rest though, right? Have a good Monday all!

Take it easy for the week with only light workouts. Your body needs the time to prepare for the 1/2. Good luck on the run. I hope the weather cooperates for you.

Wow pretty quiet out there. What's everyone up to?
How's training going?
Anyone have a PB to lets us know about. Mine was yesterday when I did a 1500 swim followed by a 10K run.
Oh yeah the tire I changed is still holding air so I guess I got that right. I watched the video about this on BT and the instruction worked great. Especially the part about not pinching the tube and putting a little air in it to make it easier to seat.

Kim, GOOD LUCK this weekend!  I hope that you have a fun successful race?!  Do you have any goals for this race?

Barry how is the weather by you? I thought I saw on the news.. NO GOOD?

Ben you are becoming an expert all the way around!  Great job yesterday as well!  You are well on your way to your 1/2 Ironman!

For me I am in the ever present FATIGUE mode!  I feel like any workout I do these days do not benefit me!!  But I feel like my workouts are pretty good ones!  I am planning a couple long runs, and 1 long ride in the next week or so, but must focus on getting some good sleep!

SLEEP??? I've heard people talking about that. It sounds like it would be kind of neat to experience!! Oh dude, wait until you have kids! Seems like once a week our 3 year old wakes up freaking out in the middle of the night. Last night she was up at midnight,2 and 3:30. My wife was able to get her back to sleep, but wow it is disturbing. Crazy that our 1 1/2 year old is(knock on wood) a waayyyy better sleeper.

I was happy this morning to actually make it to the pool. I was temped to hit that snooze a few times this morning after the night we had. But was able to get it in, and we are having a nice chinook blowing in today, so i think a run shortly will be in order.

Today I hit the pool early before doing my second TT in bike class.  Was pretty happy with the results, averaged 153 Watts, 3.15W/Kg which was a decent improvement over the last time.  I love doing that kind of stuff, especially when you have some competition to make you work harder.

Off for my third round of prolotherapy injections as part of my rehab later this afternoon.  And then it might be time to think about packing for Hawaii!  5 days and I will be on the plane....

Enjoy your day.

Trevor - glad to hear the rest of the teeth stayed in place. I had all four of wisdom teeth removed at once as well and I was miserable. Great job.  I hope you little one is not developing night terrors. My nephew had those and they were just as terrifying for the parents as they were for the kids.

Kim, go get em this weekend.  Like my fellow BIG 12 mentor member (ha ha ha) I am hoping to do one in a few months so I am anxious to hear all about it.

I am suppose to be working from home today.  Yhea right........  I don't know if any of you are familiar with the year round school system but we do that in NC.  In a nut shell the kids are divided into 4 different tracks where they rotate when they are in school.  9 weeks in, 3 weeks off, all year long with the result of 3 tracks always occupying the school.  They do this so the schools can accomodate more students and it corrects for the lack of foresight and planning by our school board and city planners to regulate building and zoning.  But I digress.....  Anyway, my girls have been tracked out since mid December and with the holidays they have been home over 5 weeks.  Needless to say,  I AM READY FOR SCHOOL TO START AGAIN!!!!!

Only have a 2mi run today and it's snowing outside so it looks like 18 laps at the indoor track for me.

Tracy I went to Kindergarten Information night last night, lol we have alot to choose from where I live, they have the following types of Elementary schools available:

Science focus
Traditional (you only have one teacher the whole day)
Spanish Immersion (1/2 day in spanish, 1/2 in english)
Montesorri (kids of all ages in one class)
Regular neighborhood (what we are sending our son to)

LOL, we met the principal and he said to bring our son out so they can meet him and it will help determine which teacher he would fit better with.

I don't seem to remember all this effort put forth for students when I was in school, especially elementary school.

I know, isn't it crazy?!   I remember drawing my letters in the sand in 1/2 day kindergarden and now they have nightly homework of BOOKS to read and sentences to write.  Part of the kidergarden curriculum is identify shapes like trapazoids and a hexagons, I don't think I could do that now!!!  And they are doing things on the computers that blow me away. My daughter asked the other day if we could download the new Taylor Swift album and videos onto her iPod!!! When you stop and think  about it that is impressive coming from an 8 year old.  Think back to when you were 8.  I think I was busy putting crickets into vinegar to see what would happen, but I guess that is why I am a scientist

Hi all.  Looks like everyone is doing well with the new babies and vacations and great workouts!  I've been slacking a bit lately, but I will get back on track eventually

It's a balmy 30 out and raining ice here, and the grocery stores are out of bread and milk.  Arkansans are one intelligent group I tell ya!

Hope everyone has a great day!

CONGRATULATIONS JEREMY!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!  Well the weather has completely crapped out here in Oklahoma.  Our first real winter storm of the year.  The entire state is covered in ice and we are all trapped in our homes.  But on the bright side...the laundry is getting done :-)  Well, I will try my luck a little later and slip & slide my way to the gym.  You all have a great day.

Barry how is the weather by you? I thought I saw on the news.. NO GOOD?

Only about 70 degrees today!  (sunshine)  So I would call it a nice day out.  Would love to go for a ride, but am on child duty while my wife is at work today.  I will be out of town the next couple, so I am "working" from home today.

Question for you RUNNERS  out there.  I see where the STEVEs and SUZY's in the bunch do the "leisurely" 8.5 minute miles.  Well, I did hit 8.5 pace running downhill yesterday, but felt like I was sprinting.  My plan up to this point has been just build up some miles and keep my HR down in zone 2, but when I run at all zone 3 is actually where I spend most time, but feel comfortable.

I guess my question is...where did you fast people start out and how long did it take you to get there?

Swimming etiquette questions-

Hey everyone, i was with my swim coach swimming laps with 2, sometimes 3 other people (people were not part of the class) in a lane (swimming in circles).  what is the proper etiquette when passing someone?  Do you just sprint by them hoping you don’t run into the other swimmers? Or do you ask to pass them?  Or when you’re quickly taking instruction from someone while in the pool do you get out of the pool to listen to them or do you go to a corner of the lane?  also do you avoid doing drills when the pool is that crowded?

My coach didn't say anything so i thought i was ok but i felt a little rude..  When swimming by someone i basically timed it so i would just sprint by them..  sometimes i got pretty close to the other swimmers.  Also when taking instruction from my coach i just went to the corner of the lane so that i was out of the way of the other swimmers pushing off the wall.  my coach said swimming cicular laps with others was good practice for the tri because i learn how to pass people....
