I'm considering signing up for another race and could use some opinions. My next A race is an Oly on 1 Oct.  I'm also signed up for a Sprint on 11 Sept which I figure will be a good tune up.  I'm pretty unhappy with my performance last month so I'd like to get another race in before these too but my schedule won't let me get a tri in June or July.  I found another race nearby in August.  It has both a sprint an Oly option.  I've talked to some people who have done it previously and they say it's good race but can be hot (it's August, what do you expect...).  My goal is to get some race experience in before my A race and still give me enough time to make adjustments if necessary (I'm afraid just doing the one tune up race in Sept won't allow me enough time) so I'm thinking I should do the sprint.  The race schedule would look like this

14 Aug - Sprint (750m, 15.5 mile, 5k)

11 Sept - Sprint (750m, 20k, 5k)

1 Oct - Olympic

I don't think this is too much and actually seems like a really nice build up to an A race.  What do you guys think?

Looks like a good build to me!

That looks like a great schedule to me.

I'm debating about doing an OLY on Aug 14th (the have both at the same race I'm looking at). The reason I want to do one is a kind of redemption from from my poor performance in May.  However I'm feel that doing the sprint will allow me to train through the race (so I don't disrupt things for my A race in Oct) but still put in a solid performance.

I don't have anywhere near the base you guys do so to me it looks better to do the sprint in Aug so you can give the Oct Oly your all.

Went for a bike fitting today. Wow! Put me on a turbo trainer to measure my watts as I originally had the bike set up - 150ish watts. After 2hrs of measuring just about every part of me and moving just about every movable part of the bike we tested again - 280ish watts! I realise that it won't translate perfectly to the road due to wind resistance, but that was a much bigger jump in power than I ever could have believed.

The more I think about it the more I think sticking with the sprint in Aug is best.  I'll probably pull the trigger this evening.

Are you guys ready for Buster Britton?  My swimming sucks, I did a 400 yard set and I'm too ashamed to post it.  My bike is suspect and running is pretty good.

I did a 1:09 in 2009, but I threw a chain twice on the bike.  I'm curious to see what I can do on Saturday.

Feet, stones, meters, pounds.  You Brits are tremendously confused. ;-)

I'm on the fence.

My swim is good and there's no reason why I can't go 1:30/100 or better for 400yrds.
My bike is questionable. I went 18.8mph last year and blew up on the run. I haven't been putting the time in that is needed, but I had a pretty strong ride on Tues night. I'm hoping for 18-18.5mph.
My run is stronger than last year, but I hope I leave some in the tank after the bike. If so, I would like to think I can go low-mid 9s.

My PR is close to 1:21 on that course. I don't see myself shaving more than 4-5min off of that. I really really just want a good overall race and not blow up. I would love to put together a great 3 discipline event!

Yep!!!  I can't wait to see what goodies I will be able to pick up.

if your a Vulcan Tri member, you can log your monthly eligible workouts (Trak Shak, Tri Rides, Races), etc. and they give gift cards at the end of every month.  I guess they draw for them every month.

i'll make sure to log all my activity this month.

I'll get on the sign up for Mt. Lakes.

By default yes - he was MIA for the race.  I still haven't had a chance to meet him in person, sadly.  It would have been close because I put up a pretty decent run leg.

That's too bad.  Hope he had a good (but boring) reason for not being able to make it.
