Amazingly crazy busy 36-hour...with a detour to the Grand Canyon thrown in for good measure! The kids and I can't wait to go back to Zion. They didn't want to stop hiking and climbing. Out of 4 total hours of hiking yesterday (2 early morning, 1 after lunch, 1 at North Rim of GC) my daughter only let herself be carried for about 45 minutes coming down the 2hr hike. DH got a closer look at her stubborn streak.Tongue out

We went to The Spotted Dog in Springdale for dinner Sat night. Fantastic food! My son said it's the best meatballs he's ever had in his life (lol). I ordered salmon on a parmesan and wild mushroom risotto...and it is still making my mouth water!

We saw bison, bighorn sheep, deer, lizards, frogs, fish, chipmunks while we were out and about. As we were leaving, we stopped at the nature center which was VERY kid friendly.

Very, very cool. I haven't spent much time down there. I wanna get all Aron Ralston up in that biznezz. Ok, not really, but I do really want to go.

That's funny. As we were driving through, DH pointed out the approximate area where Ralston was hiking. I always thought "How could that happen to someone????" Well, after hiking through just a bit of those canyons, I kinda get the trapped part...but I don't get the hiking alone thing.

It's so utterly breathtaking around every corner. I can't wait til we have longer to take our bikes and explore more.  You MUST spend some time there. You'll love it!

ooo.  ooo. oo. I want to play, but I need to know what kind of training we're talking about because the kind of music I listen to for swimming is different than running which is sometimes, but not always, different than biking.

Most of the time I go without music when I run buuuut when I do

Miike Snow - Say You Will

Kid Cudi - Marijuana

The Head And The Heart - Lost in My Mind

Daft Punk - Doin' it Right

annnnnnnd anything by The xx

But I listen to a ton of stuff all the time and it's always changing. But these (other than the Daft Punk) are older and continue to always make it on my playlists, so they are tried and true.

What I don't like about the tri shorts that I love about the cycling shorts is the waist and leg band width.  The cycling shorts have a bit wider waist band and leg band and I think it's both more comfortable and more flattering.  The cycling shorts also have a lower rise in the waist, and that's more comfortable for me--stuff on my belly makes me hot and uncomfortable.

I will happily send them to you if you want to try, and if they don't work, you can send them to someone else to try

I found 2XU tri shorts pretty comfy in these areas. Feel like they hug instead of pinch/squeeze.

(Sorry...that attempt at quote shortening didn't work )

I have the 2XU hipster because I can't stand how long shorts feel on my legs. The less the better and these things have like a 4" inseam.

I have never heard of them, but I honestly live under a rock.  If it doesn't get worked into my Pandora station, I'm gonna miss out, unless it's something random like this:)

Mama bear story...

Saturday DH, DS1 and I were at a church function that we do every month. DH and DS1 work on cars and I help do "service writing". A woman we'll call Cindy was working on the same crew with my guys but from what I understand she's on that crew so the "manager" can keep an eye on her work. Anyhoo, Cindy sees the 10k oval sticker on DS1's truck (which I bought for him after Bolder Boulder) and tells him that it's embarrasing to have that on there and he should have anything less than a HM.

Of course I didn't find out until later when we were home. He handled it well and talked about BolderBoulder and the fact that I'm doing Rock N Roll. Not sure that I'd have been as polite. 1) I hate it when runners/cyclists belittle other's accomplishments and  2) the mama bear factor. I told DS1 I'd have told her that 13.1 is my cool down. Grrrrrrrr.

What a beeeooooch. She should just be embarrassed that she's a B****. I'd tell her that.

Right? I just can't understand that mentality. I try so hard to encourage people into being active that discounting someone's accomplishment boggles my mind.

You can tell her to come on up to Seattle and I will race her in a 10K, since it's so easy I'm sure she'd be glad to do it.

I like it. Oh, and I guess when she first got there she made a general announcement to anyone who would listen that she might stink because she'd been running that morning. Um yeah, 1) shower 2) sounds like she just wants to brag about running.

I think I'd just agree with her that she did stink, but not because she'd been running.

Some people just have jerk genes.Undecided

I have a wide musical taste from Kutlass to Toby Mac, Needtobreathe....and classical.  I keep the music on shuffle so I don't have anything too predictable when I run.  Kutlass, Toby Mac and Needtobreathe are all fairly up tempo artists, Third Day too.

That was completely AWESOME!

It reminded me of this one.  Love me some Yuri

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quwhg8_3N2s

Salty, you know why this resonates with me

Ah schnap, you ARE Yuri! THE CHAMPION Smile I'll remember that for life.

I'm not quite as bad as Yuri, but, damn, I have the tendencies.

The first step is admitting the problem

Well, I could use a little of that competitive nature. There's gotta be a happy medium somewhere, eh?

I'd like to program my Garmin to say "Salty disapproves" when I go outta Z2.  Fo real.

Hahaha totally.

Except wait, even the whole "Z" thing is out of my vocabulary Smile

Ahhh, you said it 'zee' dincha?  It's zed dammit, zed!

As a Brit I have to say it is ZED.

I have no fave training tracks  - basically whatever comes up on Spotify I run or ride to.  Even Gangnam style!

Actually the other day on the shuffle Spotify play list I got

Running Down a Dream - Tom Petty

Let's get Rocked - Def Leppard live

I flew along!

my music collection is still stuck mainly in the late 80s and early 90s. I do tend to listen to a fair bit of angry white chick music, some say that this has a negative affect on my attitude towards things but they can get stuffed

Actually I just redicovered my Diesel CD (Jo is probably the only one who has heard of him as he is an Aussie from the 90s) and I have found that it is great music to listen to when I run.

Sometimes you just have to be content in the knowledge that you are a superior being. Those poor little peons. They have to live that way.

I've also learned that somehow, somewhere, someway, these people always get their azzes handed back to them after having shoved them in people's faces so long. It's particularly delicious when you can see it, but have faith ... it happens.

Reminds me also of people at Nats laughing at Salty's bike ... and a story of mine ...

Last training ride for CA 70.3, 50mi, I meet up with a group from LA Tri Club who are doing longer climbing rides that day. Group leader is a woman, one of the LA Tri bigwigs (overall, everyone from LA Tri, which is a massive club, is super nice and friendly and very welcoming to newbies). She took one look at my bike and without even saying hi or anything said, "You're going to do 50 miles on THAT?!" Others in the group were very nice to me and said don't pay any attention.

Third big hill, I totally drop her, AND she breaks her chain trying to shift to chase me. Laughing Generally if someone's in trouble we all stop. She didn't have a cell phone with her, and somehow the rest of us had "forgotten" ours as well (I also forgot that my bike tool had a chain tool on it). Poor thing. She had to walk the 8 hilly miles with her bike back to the parking lot where we met up

I just have to say its tons of fun to take a rattlesnake to the airport.

That is all.

Oooh! I can only imagine! I've taken and picked up dogs, cats, iguanas, and rabbits, but never a rattlesnake.

Still sending prayers and healing for your mom.

Thanks! So far, so good--I spoke to her and she sounds a little tired, but normal otherwise...I did figure out that Clint and I can no longer go to the movie theater though...we went to see Superman and she broke her hip...we went to see Wolverine she gets cancer...we'd best play it safe and wait for the dvd....Yeah--I make jokes when I stress and am worried..in case you can't tell.

The zoo's rattlesnake is going to Staten Island, New York, and the best way to ship it is by normal air cargo at the airport. Its pretty nifty to walk in the office and announce "I am here to ship my rattlesnake!" More so when the air cargo staff doesn't bat an eye, but the other customers take two steps away!I'm gonna miss the cranky li'l guy. (the snake, not the airport staff...)
