Keep my head, enjoy the moments, and not get a sunburn in Mexico during our week-long Disney cruise starting 12/26!!! And figure out what to get mh husband, truly the man who has everything, for his birthday 12/28!Even though the close of '11 is near, there are at least a few preparing to toe the line this weekend!! Raise your hands high and tell us all about it. To jump on Linda's question, what's your one remaining goal for this year? Could be triathlon related, could be something completely different....do tell! |

No racing. Did a half marathon last weekend. It was a spur of the moment sort of thing because there was one about 5 miles away from where we were staying for the weekend. I figured I was going to do a long run anyway, so I may as well do the race. But that was the end of my '11 season. Goal: To maintain my perspective -- especially with my kids (7, 6 and 3) -- during this holiday season. It can be a real challenge. But then I think back on how difficult my brothers and I were when we were that age, and I realize that I have it much easier than my parents did. |

Cleaning the entire house. It's in progress. Poor house been neglected for a few months due to school and non-cleaning DF. We "tidy" up, but not deep cleaning, so it seriously need to be cleaned up. While the man is away for XMas in NJ (I'll be joining him in a week), I have 7 days to tackle this. :D
Other than that, I'm just enjoying on not worrying about training for a while. I may do a couple short runs before hand, but ain't counting on it. |

Master 1539 Sin City | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed Silly Running shoes question.
I know different shoe manufactures have different wear and tear times, but I'm wondering if shoes wear down faster if you're running faster, even if the miles are slow?
I have three pairs of shoes. The first one looks practically brand new, and put on about 100 or less miles on them. Ditched them. Got a second pair, and put on over 200 miles on them, still looks brand new. Both of them were last year's. I got new shoes last Christmas, and I put on about 125 miles on them...and the soles are already worn down. I *was* going to get new shoes for the Half Marathon, but I didn't want to risk the "breaking in" period (Not too crazy about these shoes). The soles have been wearing down evenly (yeah, I'm a forefoot runner...perfect wear pattern on the ball of the foot and the heel. ).
However, it's less 1/2 the miles I did on last year's shoes, but they're worn down faster...could it be because I'm much faster than last year? 2 min/mi faster. |

I will let others who are more knowledgeable than I answer your question. But NICE JOB on the improvement in your running pace.

Goal right now is to find a groove and get it going. Been a crazy few weeks so I am looking forward to some time off around the holidays. Just spent an hour or so reading all the back posts. Some awesome work out there racers! Oh, and I actually did two workouts this week. Things are looking up!

Shoe wear down is not necessarily a good thing. It can mean you are planting too firmly, overstriding, etc. The above statement doesn't make sense to me. Where is the wear pattern the greatest? If you're a forefoot runner you really wouldn't see wear in the heel. Edited by SSMinnow 2011-12-14 2:12 PM |

East coasters and midwesterners must be sleeping in or working hard! Probably the latter. No racing for me, good luck to JAYNE! and others who may be racing this weekend... As for the remaining goal for the year? I feel pretty good about my ability to get those holiday cards done late last night, but it sure made for a bit of an early wake up to swim...hit a new record...no, not a 3200 yard workout like someone we know, but 38F air temps at my pool...BRR on the 20 seconds it takes to go from poolside to hot showers! But as for the remaining goal, I really feel like I hit all the good ones this year and only want to be healthy come December 31st. Almost there! Happy Wednesday, Peeps! |

For all you Hockey fans ..... the linesman, #42, in the middle of all these fights is my Brother! I have been busting his chops all week about being in early and then jumping into the bench! Both situations could have gotten ugly real fast! Interesting. My brother also did lots of hockey reffing (hobby, not his full time job) and peaked at the level where he was doing games in the ECHL. He still does some reffing, but is spending more time coaching these days - University of Dayton's Club team and some high school off season league stuff. I got to see him ref and ECHL game once and get in the middle of some fights. He was a good head shorter than all of the players on the ice. |

There's a lot less wear on the heel, but a small area of the heel is worn (this is probably from walking, as it's very on the corner of the shoe, just like my regular shoes). |

BBWA should not allow anyone in HOF or eligible for awards after first positive test. |
