NL MVP? Ryan Braun?

Dino?

I have been struggling with this since the news hit last Saturday.  He claims he is innocent, but so was Floyd Landis ...... ???

For all you Hockey fans .....  the linesman, #42, in the middle of all these fights is my Brother!  I have been busting his chops all week about being in early and then jumping into the bench!  Both situations could have gotten ugly real fast!

Here's how much I know about hockey... I didn't realize the "linesman" was a ref until I watched the video... nasty circumstances there for him to be in the middle.

Even though the close of '11 is near, there are at least a few preparing to toe the line this weekend!!  Raise your hands high and tell us all about it.

To jump on Linda's question, what's your one remaining goal for this year?  Could be triathlon related, could be something completely different....do tell!

good luck fools.  goal is to set some goals for 2012.

No racing - thank GAWD because it would be ugly with the lack of training I have been doing.  Goal right now is to find a groove and get it going.  Been a crazy few weeks so I am looking forward to some time off around the holidays.

I'm with George here... gotta get into a training rhythm - been very sporadic lately.
Until 2012 -- stay healthy and injury free.  I've been flirting with running disaster during training runs and races here lately (long story)...  Time to call a "Knock it Off" on the runs and spend more time on the bike.

No racing this week for me.  Good luck to all those who are!!

Silly Running shoes question.

I know different shoe manufactures have different wear and tear times, but I'm wondering if shoes wear down faster if you're running faster, even if the miles are slow?

I have three pairs of shoes. The first one looks practically brand new, and put on about 100 or less miles on them. Ditched them. Got a second pair, and put on over 200 miles on them, still looks brand new. Both of them were last year's.

I got new shoes last Christmas, and I put on about 125 miles on them...and the soles are already worn down.   I *was* going to get new shoes for the Half Marathon, but I didn't want to risk the "breaking in" period (Not too crazy about these shoes).  The soles have been wearing down evenly (yeah, I'm a forefoot runner...perfect wear pattern on the ball of the foot and the heel. ).

However, it's less 1/2 the miles I did on last year's shoes, but they're worn down faster...could it be because I'm much faster than last year? 2 min/mi faster.

Shoe wear down is not necessarily a good thing.  It can mean you are planting too firmly, overstriding, etc.  The above statement doesn't make sense to me.  Where is the wear pattern the greatest?  If you're a forefoot runner you really wouldn't see wear in the heel.

*checking shoes* Ahh, now I see what you mean. I would the wear pattern is on the ball of the foot area.  There's a lot less wear on the heel, but a small area of the heel is worn (this is probably from walking, as it's very on the corner of the shoe, just like my regular shoes).

I'm a little like you, I'm a mid footer with a little bit of heel wear on the right side (short side--no wise cracks Fatty).

I'm stumped why your shoes would wear out faster...different running surface perhaps?

OH!! Almost forgot... Did my bike LT today... it was brutal but now I have a baseline LT HR to train from.  I messed up during the warm up and didn't get my HR up full speed first, so the first couple minutes were HR spiking quick and then settling out.  I took those out before the settle and recalculated the AHR for my new LT (161).   My HR data from the settle was very steady between 158-165, with a few very short higher sections.

Maintained a 90+ cadence for the entire test.  My legs were on fire just after passing the halfway point, dropped a gear and kept the pace while maintaining that HR.  Once the legs cooled down a little(~ a min), I shifted back up and pressed.  Had to do that one more time towards the end as well.

This test was rough, a good workout but rough... have a feeling the legs will be sore tomorrow.

I know you guys think I live by the motto, ignorance is bliss, but what the heck are you talking about, Suzy and John???

Kris is beautiful as is the entire Dale family!  Loverly photo of the awesome clan!

DJ-you may have mentioned it but I cannot find it, but is it a different model of shoe? (the ones from last year that show no wear vs. the new ones?)...different models can break down differently.  My currrent ones last only about 170-200 miles...whereas my older model was somewhere in the 250-300 range.

And mine don't really look worn, I can just feel the ground more as they hit that older point.  I think it has more to do with the midfoot eva cushioning than the outer rubber...as the cushioning is what seems to eventually loose it's form with miles of impact...and that's kind of what I go by...if i run more on the hard packed multiuse vs. asphalt, I get more miles out of them.

It's been raining here ALL FREEKIN' DAY, so I'm working on a new attitude for Saturday's 10.5 mi. trail run.  If all else fails, I'm a triathlete, I can swim through the flooded areas Laughing.  This is going to be a hellofagoodtime!!  Hubby's running the second leg and BT friend DirkP is finishing it up for us.  Hopefully, I will be clean, dry, and warm before hubby's even finished.

For those of you looking for a longer distance to try, you should put this race on your radar for next year.  It's called "The Huff" and it's a 50k trail run.  Or, you can do a 3-person relay (for newbies like me).  It's withing a day's drive of half of the country's population.

George, that's a really awesome!!  I'm glad John shared that article.

Took me and hour and a half to turn an expensive custom burl pen. First the blank cracked during drilling, second try the bottom half blew apart, then the top half cracked. Third try top had to be  skewed down to get rid of the finish that was not going well and then reapply the finish. Finally done.

Of course the guy still wants it engraved!

This level of pen is not a money-making one! even at $75-100. Heck the mechanism, wood, finish, polish and engraving cost $45-50. The guy bought the mechanism himself, but still that was too much time for me for one pen. At least I already got my work out in today.

Off to bed.

Great minds think alike.  I was wondering the same thing? Tongue out

And it's just shy of a million square feet.  Not sure where Cooper has been these days...probably in the lower level cabana with the pool boy.
