For anyone still thinking about racing Portland, REV3 added an Olympic distance race. They have early bird pricing this week. Who is going to Portland? Some are already signed up, right??? Sounds fun, but don't know how to convince hubby I NEED to go. . . . . |

BTW, Why is Jeremy the only boy with a normal haircut? We looks the sharpest to me. Middle son Tommy always wants a mohawk in the summer. So of course youngest son Cody wants one too like his older brother. They want it spiked up for about 3 days and then they can't be bothered putting gel in to get it spiked. Tommy's hair is pretty curly so he goes from a mohawk to a "fro-hawk" without gel. Then after a couple of weeks, I convince them to just shave it off and go for a crewcut.

Expert 1038 Noosa | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed Great family pic George, one to treasure! My kids are growing up so fast it makes me a bit sad... my season re-starts after Christmas, life's just been too hectic to focus on training and racing recently. I've been doing a run challenge, run every day until New Year's eve, and that's been fun. I'm also doing a lot of barefoot running on the beach but also on the road. No problems so far and my gait's improved. I've been reading "Born to Run" so don't be surprised if you see me running at my next tri in Mexican sandals!!! Also, MY PEN ARRIVED, thanks Doug, very nice! |

Master 1539 Sin City | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed kt65 - 2011-12-14 6:44 PM DJ-you may have mentioned it but I cannot find it, but is it a different model of shoe? (the ones from last year that show no wear vs. the new ones?)...different models can break down differently. My currrent ones last only about 170-200 miles...whereas my older model was somewhere in the 250-300 range. And mine don't really look worn, I can just feel the ground more as they hit that older point. I think it has more to do with the midfoot eva cushioning than the outer rubber...as the cushioning is what seems to eventually loose it's form with miles of impact...and that's kind of what I go by...if i run more on the hard packed multiuse vs. asphalt, I get more miles out of them. Yes, both are different models. One is Asics, and the other is Brooks. It looks like the Brooks wore out faster. Suzy probably got it right - different surface. I would say about 98% of my running this year was on asphalt, last year I did a lot more on smooth gym tracks. I figured that it just got worn down faster because I run faster. :-D Looks like I need new sneakers. They were hurting the last couple miles of my half, and I don't think my last year's shoes hurt like that. Hate the Tongue on the asics though...it's...fat. *Thick* is probably a better word.
On another note: I passed my TOUGHEST CLASS - Portfolio Prep class. You have to pass this class to get into Presentation class, then you graduate. You don't pass, you retake the class. About 90% of my classmates had to retake it for the second time ( a couple had to retake it 3 times!). I'm one of the lucky few that passed...and frankly, I'm shocked. :-D
My presentation skills in After Effect stinks though. :-( |

Expert 847 Brevard, North Carolina | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN fast, furious, and closed 50K trail relay finished. The conditions were perfect: 32 degrees, knee deep water, mud mud and more mud, snow, hills and a bunch of really brave people. I had two goals. 1) Stay on my feet - success 2) Finish - success. I never checked my watch. It seemed so slow, I was sure it would just discourage me. I knew anything around 2 hours would be really fast "for me" and I really thought it would be closer to 2:30 given the trail conditions. I finished in 2:15. Had some calf cramping start around mile 8, but it didn't get bad until I finished the race. I was the first leg of the relay and there were a bunch of people running the same 10.5 mi. course as one single loop. Needless to say, the trail was crowded for my run. There were many times when a single-file line of people walking around the deepest-water slowed everyone down. Finally, I said heck with that and just started running through the water. It was shockingly cold but it didn't take long to get warmed up again . . . just long enough to have more water to run through. But, the water was NOTHING compared to the mud. It was everywhere, deep, slippery, and there was no way to avoid it. Luckily, I laced my shoes nice and snug. I saw several people digging their shoes out of the mud. |
