As per the TFW FB page, water temperature yesterday, was 57 and 63. Not sure for the discrepancy, but definitely will be packing the wetsuit. Supposed to do a 5 hour bike today, but have a daughter and niece (s) with birthday parties,so not sure yet what I'm going to do. Tomorrow is a full day also. Hmmm. Hay is in the barn? Lol.

LOL. Yeah, the hay is in the barn! My last "big" workout was Friday. Only short speed work mostly for me now. Thank goodness!

I saw the post on FB with the water temps. If the south wind keeps blowing and it stays in the 80's like it's supposed to we'll see the water surface temp increase I'm sure. I'll still be in a wetsuit though. That extra buoyancy is a big boost.

Have fun on the bike today. I volunteered to work this weekend and it's beautiful outside!!!

They posted this morning, 71-72 degree water temp the past few days. https://www.facebook.com/trifortworth/posts/808651169300683

In other news, somewhere I missed my coach isn't big on taper, I have 3 hours on the bike this weekend!

Haha, well considering I have set PR's at every distance of race I have done this year under his coaching at the age of 48 (49 in July) I guess he knows what he is doing. The week leading up to the race is pretty light except for the Monday before I have 3400m in the pool. I had 3350m yesterday and another 3600m tomorrow.

Now we just need the potential wind to die down!

Taper madness kicking in. I've never done multiple 15, 16 hour weeks prior. Then.... i see the weather forecast for next weekend. Oh well, hopefully no lightening.

That is one of the worst parts of training! I am almost enjoying not having much taper, did 3 hours on the bike today followed by a quick 20 minute run after.

Yeah, hopefully no lightning! Weather looks ok otherwise I guess.

Got in one last swim workout before flying out early tomorrow morning for Ft Worth. It was good and fast considering I had already packed both pairs of goggles and swam without them! Hopefully I got the dumb moves like that out of my system!

Yes. Safe travels! I love Fort Worth; its as great city. My son had/has a nasty cold starting this past weekend, and today I started with the sinus drainage and aching. Hopefully its nothing. The forecast is, in my opinion, looking good (minus any lightening ). Any idea on the # of participants?

There are two 98's in the list. Looks like about 100 people for the full, that's not a lot.

Only the full so far, still waiting for the half.

Thanks, looking forward to visiting, I try to make it at least once a year to Ft Worth to visit my family. Last year I stayed with my parents in Ft Worth and went and did the Dallas Rock n Roll half marathon.

Made it and already got both my wife's and my bikes assembled and quick test rides. Going for a short run to get the legs loose and start acclimating to the heat a little.

Lets hope it's not like right now on race day! I just got in a hour ride and yikes! Hot, humid, and windy!

Welcome to Texas!

Took off of work today to tune up bike, pack, and be ready to head to FW after work tomorrow (couldn't get off). However, I woke up today with fever, chills, achines and a stuffy head. Sadly, I'm pulling the plug. First IM not meant to be for me this weekend. I am off next week and my children are out of school,so I am going to spend as muchtimeas possible with them. I wish you best and hope you kill it! Let me know how you do.

Well? I tried to follow, but couldn't get anything from the athlete tracking system they used. They had a couple of early updates on FB then nothing.

Personally I feel like that was a good event. Especially being the inaugural race and doing a half and full on the same day. And dealing with T-storms at the start. I hope everyone did well.

I think the only tracking system was BAT Beacon. An independent company you had to pay for separately. Then it only tracked you on the bike and run.

Awesome job! I enjoyed your race report. Despite the flat and a detour, you still almost made the podium, and would have broken 6:00. Going to do the full next year? Regardless, best of luck.

Thanks!  I promised myself (and my wife) I would take some time off including next spring. I've had early year long course races the four years. I might do some short course stuff then volunteer for this one next year. Who knows maybe another full in 2019!

Shoot I missed this! So sorry to hear you were sick, hope you are enjoying time with your kids!

Overall I found this to be a pretty good race, the wind and for me, excessive heat on the run, made for a tough day. working on my race report.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

After I left the running store, I couldn't stop thinking about the sprint tri and how much of a challenge it would be for me. So instead of joining a gym, I started riding my bike and it felt great.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
