Get together/Carbo Load on Friday night?

I suggested that we get together on Friday night at Joes Pizza and Pasta in the small center on the corner of 1709(Keller Parkway) and Pate Orr.  7pm should be a decent time to get everyone full of carbs, and home in their beds at a decent hour.  Let us know by posting to the thread if you would like to come, and we'll get the reservations for everyone.

A good meeting spot that has been discussed is just inside the front door, on the stairs to the right.  There are lots of folks coming, who arent racing, so its fair to say that we will likely be milling about around the Transition area since the weather is supposed to be decent in the morning. We'll probably head in 20-30 minutes before the race.

Aaron is probably the easiest of us all to pick out.  He's the tall skinny one with the monster beard.  I'll a big guy and fairly easy to spot too, and i'll make sure to wear my Xterra hat.  More than likely the lot of us will be fairly close together.  If you didn't have the opportunity to come to dinner the night before, be sure to say hello on race day.  That way we'll know who to cheer for!

Thanks to all for the encouragements. I signed up yesterday and am getting the nervous/excited feeling just thinking about it. The final push was the poster who linked pictures from last year. It looked so much fun (albeit cold). I am going to make memories on Saturday and going to have fun and enjoy every single painful minute of it. Thanks again for the push!

GOOD LUCK! You will do great. Just go out there and have fun!

Aaron is probably the easiest of us all to pick out.

Either him, or the 8 months pregnant Roly Poly!  I'll have the St Paddy's hat from last year and a green t-shirt.  Won't make it for the carbo-load, but definitely for the race.  Looking forward to meeting ya'll!

Picked up my race packet in Plano...

Bib #460

They started the numbering at #336 (I am guessing 1-335 were in their 1st race?).  There are just under 500 (yes, FIVE HUNDRED) racers.  This is going to be a big sprint.

Swimmers start 5 seconds apart.  There is only 1 way traffic in the 9' wide swimming lanes...nobody barreling/flogging toward you.  Racks will be assigned, but it is a free-for-all as far as where you rack your bike on your assigned rack - 1st come, 1st serve.  Transition opens at 0615 and closes at 0730.  If you want an end spot then you might want to get there early.

There were some...uhhh...interesting estimated swim times posted.

See you guys and gals there around 0610 on Saturday!

Where the bibs actually labed with St. Patty's day?  When I did monster I think I got a Iceman bib.  The pool in Keller is awesome but if this is your first race and you are used to 25m pools that are 3 ft deep be prepared to jump in 12ft deep water.  Freaked me out last year.  Definately get there early if you want and end rack.  You basically have 4 end spots (2 on each end and side of the bar).

Good luck to all but darn family commitments are keeping me away from watching/cheering.  You should have great weather compared to Athens last week.

27 minute wait from gun to when I go. Gonna be a nerve-wracking 27 minutes, haha. I just mapped the course online and it looks really flat. I am excited! I still suck at hills.

I am going to buy you some extra sketti and get you over-loaded on Friday night if you join us at Joes...wait, what AG are you in?

We might have about a 10mph NW wind, according to the weather peeps...which is STILL better than my last 3 outside rides, which had a minimum of 20mph winds!

Yep, Ken...the running bibs are labled with shamrocks and St Patty's Day emblems.. the bike one is not...and it is a twisty tie bike number, not a top-tube sticky...that is going to present a problem for the Cervelo's with those long and funky shaped stems, but I guess we will just have to improvise.  heh

True enough about the deep pool.. I had never trained in one before my first tri, and had only used the 4' deep pool.  Well, at the gun for my race, I got to the edge of the pool, held my goggles with both hands and jumped in feet first and sank to the bottom of the 12' pool in 3 seconds.  I freaked, and I am not afraid of deep water at all.  That wrecked my breathing for almost the entire pool swim!  I am using a modified lifeguard plunge this year.

Last year I just dropped to my butt when they said go and slipped into the pool so I could push off.  I am too worried about my goggle getting loose and getting water up my nose.

Thanks and I got it down to 1:07 at The Monster Tri in October.  With a 5:30 swim time.

25-29 :P

I am not worried about the wind. 10 mph is WAY better than what we have been seeing normally these last few weeks. I don't think any wind can bug me after what we faced at the TMS Du last month. (Except maybe the fabled Kona winds, haha)

As for the 12 foot deep pool, I learned about that the hard way at my first tri last year. I jumped in the pool all excited to start the race, and had no idea it was that deep. It felt like it took me forever to rise back up and start swimming. Not a good start for some one who still fights drowning flashbacks in the pool if I don't breathe enough.

Anyway, I have #670.
