Master 2249 Colorado | Subject: RE: The trixie/matchman CUT THE CRAP challenge Finally a challenge I can win! Its about time! I've actually been doing this since Monday (5/12). I've even cut all alcohol and caffeine. Only drink water. I'm not sure exactly what the "processed" food entails but I'm pretty sure I'm not eating it. I'm eating mostly things like: egg whites, whole grain bread, grapefruit, no-sugar applesauce, lettuce, string cheese, swiss cheese, apples, strawberries, grilled chicken, frozen or fresh veggies, macadamia nuts, and Wheat Thins. Can I have Wheat Thins? I only have 8 for a snack with my string cheese. Please? I just finished out day 4 of this with ZERO cheating. Even though I had many many opportunities. My boss even gave me a cookie the other day and I gave it to someone else. Watched a friend eat a big ol bbque sandwich and a beer today at lunch and I had only water (because I had my lunch just before). And I was fine with that. |

No, my dear, you can't have Wheat Thins. They don't come much more processed than that! And why the hell would you cut out alcohol altogether? That's one thing I just can't wrap my arms around. In fact, I'm drinking a glass of port right now. Its good. Two clean days down for me, 36 to go. |

Sorry, but wheat thins have processed flour and sugar in them. They are one of my son's favorite snacks along with string cheese. Look at the string cheese packaging. The ones we have have nothing "real" in them. |

Veteran 299 | Subject: RE: The trixie/matchman CUT THE CRAP challenge Ok, I am really knuckling down today. I hit the produce store after work yesterday. And then the food store, but I remained in only the outer ailes of the store since that is where the keep the non processed goods. I now have a refrigerator full of fresh vegtables, freshly steamed brown rice and chicken and fish. I am ready to play now. |

I don't need you. ps. what the h e double toothpicks is "processed flour?" Sorry, no harm/insults intended. If I understand Trixie correctly and the challenge, you can modify the rules to fit you. If that is what you need and you feel it is OK to have your eight Wheat Thins and Sting Cheese, who am I to judge or say no. I think the intent is to really highlight how much "crap" we unknowingly ingest everyday. As long as you are aware of it and control it, that is great in my book. It's about control and moderation. Oh, processed flour. Look at the labels, it shows up as "Enriched Flour". Now, someone correct me if I am wrong, but what I understand it is, is the following. They take the wheat and mill off the "germ" which is the outside of the wheat seed/kernel. This is the part that has all the fiber and nutrition in it. Now they take what is left and bleach and process it till it is white and really has no nutritional value left and then chemically add back the vitamins. aka Enriched Flour. So on that note, today is my CRAP day. Got up late and didn't have my oatmeal and didn't have time to pack my food for the day. I usually carry my food for all but dinner, so I know exactly what I'm eating and the portions. Friday nights in my house is Pizza night according to my boys. So its a "Street Bagel" and coffee for breakfast and "Street Food" for lunch. Gotta love NYC, where you can buy your meals right out on the street. |

I don't need you. ps. what the h e double toothpicks is "processed flour?" Dude, everyone is so sensitive on this site today. RM-read what was posted earlier....make up your own rules. I just started this cause Tom came to me with some nutrition questions. In answering him I thought it was time I practiced what I was preaching. I also wanted to become more aware of the crap that I eat, and potentially find out how crappy it was making me feel and perform. No idea what processed flour is and I'm not interested enough to look it up. I'm just going to eat cleaner without going overboard. |
