Also let me know if any of you BTches want to get together to meet, greet, and maybe eat the day before. Does the USAT allow you to fraternize with the racers? If I buy you 10 pounds of boiled crawfish will you cut me some slack? How about a dozen raw oysters? |

Member 57 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread First HIM distance...getting nervous but just trying to enjoy the ride. I had a training plan printed out and I veered way off course. There is no way I have the time to do the volume of training that it maps out. Anyhow, I have done several 12-15 mile runs and quite a few 40-60 mile rides. Everything feels good. My biggest concern is doing fitness for 5+ hours. I know that in marathon trainging, once you work up to about an 18 mile run you are typically good to go. How long of a work out is a good indication that you are "good to go" in a HIM dist?
Thanks for the input! Mike |

Thanks for the input! Mike I think that overall training volume is a more valuable indicator than an individual workout duration. It's my first as well. My weekly volume has floated between 10 to 14 hours and I'm pretty confident that if the race were two weeks away, I could start tapering and finish the thing. |

Thanks for the input! Mike If you can do the time in the individual sports independently, then you'll be able to put them together on race day. This assumes you put in a decent amount of volume overall. You'll be amazed at what you will do on race day! I think many first timers under estimate what they are capable of. But, to answer your question more directly for a HIM I'll put in a 4 - 5 hour day - something like a 3.5 hour bike + .5 hour run. Or an hour swim + 4 hour bike. Also note that these don't necessarily have to be bricks. I might take a half hour or the drive home in between the workouts. |

Expert 1194 | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Hows everyone feeling...me personaly, I'm getting a little tired, avg work week 51hrs, 7.5hrs of drive time, avg training week 8-10hrs (68hrs total). Tri life would be much better if work didn't get in the way. What kind of work do you guys and gals do and how many hours combined do you put in during a regular week? |

Expert 960 Highlands Ranch, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Well, I am up at 4am to get to the gym before work. I put in 45-50 hours a week. 2-3 times per week I will pull double workouts either during lunch or after work. It gets tough sometimes especially with a wife and three young children. My schedule calls for 14 hours this week. So I'll have to use my time wisely. |

Champion 34263 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Im woefully undertrained. I figure a 6:00 or less is probably out of the question. Last week I think I hit 2 hours of training. I did a half mary with LazyMarothoner Sunday at a nice training pace. I figure if I can get in a couple of 50 mile bikes and a long brick or two I should be good to go. Im stickin with my usual HIM goal of 1-3-2 ... that's 1 hour swim (and transitions), 3 hour bike and 2 hour run. Frankly, I just don't want to get eaten by a gator. |

Champion 5117 Brandon, MS | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread I've been exhausted. I ended up taking two straight days off, just trying to get back on track and get my head straight. It sort of helped, but I was even in a pizzy mood on just a 45 minute run this morning. I think it's a combination of the longer training hours (only done Oly plans up until this) and the lack of good outdoor riding time. As for time management? I spend 8-5 in the office everyday and as a newlywed, I promised myself that I'd always be home after work for dinner and time with her. So, depending on what I've got planned, I'm usually up between 4-6am. I also use the lunch hour (though I'm pushing well past one hour most days) to try and get in 10-13 hours of training per week. It's a lot to put up with for free beer.

Member 90 Hermitage TN (Down the street from Nashville) | Subject: RE: Ironman 70.3 New Orleans : Official Thread Ok, well I've got my swagger back, did 1.2 mile swim in the pool just to see if I could and although the time wasn't great "I'll take it" never dreamed I could swim that far. Two years ago I couldn't even do 50 yards. Still working my distances up on the bike and since I've got a few weeks to go I think I'll be ok. The runs are coming around and I was really satisfied with my 8 miler that I did last saturday. Put some time on the trainer almost because I thought it was giving me that evil eye. So I couldn't resist and after a good hour and 1/2 I was happy I did. Anyone got any good reccommendations on a safe, clean, and quiet hotel down in NO. Say between 75-150 a night price range. Personally I could sleep in a Mozi-Wozi, but I'm bringing my Tri-Widow (the wife) and she deserve a lovely place to enjoy the weekend.

No real time goal in mind, I'm just want to enjoy this as a fullly supported training day for IMKY. I also don't have a time goal. Back when I signed up I was hoping for a 6 hour or less race, but then I stopped training after my November marathon. I was burned out. I slacked for almost 2 months with mostly swimming and a run here or there. I started with a coach at the beginning of Feb and he's helping me get back on track, but he's made it clear to me that IMWI is my goal and while he's hoping I can do well in NO, I have to look past it. A fully supported training day is a good way to look at it Abbie! And one that will have much drinking/celebrating afterward |

I booked whatever the host hotel is and it was only 139 or so a night. Not bad. Although I'm moving to the French Quarter after the race, where I'm sure "quiet" is not in the description! |

You'll be looking at $100 and up price range mostly, but look for hotels in the Central Business district. That's where a lot of your Doubletree/Marriot/Hilton type stuff is. Search for hotels in New Orleans on Orbitz and it breaks them out into the different districts for you.
